Streamyx Combo Promotion

I received a call from Streamyx yesterday because they are having a Streamyx Combo promotion. Right now, I am only subscribed to their 512kbps package, paying RM66 per month but comes with lifetime warranty for the modem.

This new promotion that was offered to me is their 1MB package PLUS phone line rental. I will have to pay RM110 per month and enjoy lifetime warranty of modem too. Phone calls made will be charged the normal (existing) rates.

Actually, I have wanted to upgrade my speed for a long time since my package was subscribed such a long time ago that this was the fastest they had. Recently, I enquired about the 4MB package but was told that my area does not support that speed. It’s cheap, though. Only RM160 per month, compared to 1MB at RM110, a difference of RM50 per month only but with four times the speed. Bah, so this is what we get for living outside of Kuala Lumpur.

Anyway, I did not upgrade as the difference between 512kbps and 1MB isn’t all that great and I did not want to void my lifetime warranty of modem but since their new promo comes with lifetime warranty for modem as well, I might as well upgrade. Anyway, subscribing to a Combo package at 1Mb speed would only save me about RM14 monthly, compared to subscribing to a 1MB Streamyx package and pay for a phone line separately.

Streamyx Server Problem

This morning, I question if there was a problem with the website of PPP. While the site was down for me for hours on end, I asked a few friends to check for me. Some, who are also using Streamyx broadband connection, told me that they are facing the same problem. Others, who are in foreign countries, hence using another internet provider, faced no issue with accessing PPP.

After 24 hours of not being able to access the site, I finally decided to give Streamyx Customer Care hotline a call. I told them I could not access international sites and that I would like to have my port reset.

After answering a hundred and one questions, the guy finally did it for me. The problem now is that while PPP is accessible, my internet connection is crawling. Why can’t I have both a good connection where I could access any website PLUS a good speed? SIGH!

Free Lifetime Warranty For Modem

I mentioned that my telephone line was struck by lightning a week ago. Well, I have changed most hardware and got the telephone line repaired. However, since that strike, my internet connection has not been the same. My signal keeps dropping causing my internet connection to break.

I thought that it’s all because of the electric charge that has gone through my cables and hardware but my friends, who are also Streamyx subscribers, tell me that they are experiencing bad internet connections lately as well.

Anyway, I called TM customer service and made complaints that my signal keep dropping. After numerous calls and a lapse of a few days, they finally lodged a report for me.

This evening, the Telekom technician came and replaced my broadband modem/router for me. Well, he could not be sure if the problem was with the previous modem/router but he said let’s try a new unit and see if the problem persists.

The thing is, he does not know that I got hit by lightning. Anyway, I do have free lifetime warranty on my modems from Telekom because I was one of the first 5,000 Streamyx subscribers when they first launched in back in I have forgotten which year. Awesome!

So far, I did experience a drop in signal. Maybe Streamyx is crappy lately. Maybe it is a problem with my telephone cable. We’ll have to wait and see.

Streamyx Sucks Big Time

I thought that I should not blame Streamyx for the broadband internet connection that has been plaguing me since early last week. Like I mentioned, my internet connection has never been the same after my set up was struck by lightning.

However, today I learnt that I am not the only one experiencing signal drops. I have, for the record, experienced, almost thirty times disconnection today alone and yes, I am pretty pissed off! I could hardly get any work done at all because I wasted plenty of time just trying to reboot my modem, enable/disable my connection, just to try to get a more stable internet connection.

And you know what? There are some websites that I could not access to. My web host has told me previously that this is a problem with Streamyx. I could access these sites with my Celcom 3G via my mobile device so it is confirmed that these sites are live and there is no issue with their server.

I would not say that I am paying an arm and a leg for my internet service because it is only RM66 per month but I still expect it to function without the signal dropping as and when it likes and spoiling my work midway.

So, yes, Streamyx sucks big time!

Electric Charge

There’s something wrong with my internet connection right now and I can’t blame Streamyx. Haha! The other day, after getting struck by lightning, honestly, I don’t even know where the problem lies in that my broadband connection keeps tripping.

I called up Streamyx and they tell me there is nothing wrong with my line at all. They do not even see the disconnection in their log yet I am experiencing that too frequently.

Is it my modem, hub or cables? I am thinking that I should wait a few days for the electric charge to dissipate but the frequent drop in my connection is killing my mood to work.

I do have Celcom 3G but to be honest, the stability has much to be desired. Let me try to be patient and wait a little while longer. I hope that things will right itself in time. I really have no time to troubleshoot unless I just change EVERYTHING!
