How Much Is Facebook Worth?

So the courts have ruled that Facebook is not worth US$15billion but “only” US$3.75 billion. Would any investor be willing to fork out this amount of money to take over the company, or buy some stocks? I think that prices for virtual commodities are always overrated. If you are an investor, you should seriously think about its inflated value.

In the case of Facebook, I know that companies seeking to buy shares look at its advertisement potential. When it comes to membership based websites, you need to show the number of members you have, traffic levels and the amount of time unique visitors are spending at the website.

However, investors are not users and they are not at the user-level. They do not know that even membership count is inflated. My friend and his friends have multiple accounts per person and when you advertise to a hundred members, you are actually doing so to about seventy members.

So Facebook is actually the same as other social website during the dot com boom. I really do not see anything special about Facebook that I have not used before in one social networking site or another.

Top Class Aural Entertainment in The Leviathan Chronicles

I was complaining to a friend that this Summer, we have had more than our share of sci-fi movies but if sci-fi were forced upon me, I would rather watch it than read it. The Leviathan Chronicles is even better I could just LISTEN to it!

I wouldn’t have thought I would say this, being impartial to all things sci-fi but The Laviathan Chronicles has brought podcasting to a new level.

Leviathan2

The Laviathan Chronicles sees MacallanOrsel, a female genetic scientist in New York City caught between a secret war and being told that she is a Messiah to a group of people, people whom she does not know about.

Each new podcast episode, which you could easily stream from your computer or download and sync to your iPod or iPhone, sees her discover why her race is suddenly dying off. The question posed by The Laviathan Chronicles is, would you choose freedom or immortality?

If sci-fi rocks your boat, I encourage you to check out The Laviathan Chronicles at LeviathanChronicles.com, a top class adventure/sci-fi series in podcast created by Christof Laputka. The Laviathan Chronicles will invoke your imagination no end and keep you at the edge of your seat.

I have to say that even though I am not a sci-fi fan, after just listening to the trailer of The Leviathan Chronicles, I am hooked already.

Gmail’s Global Log Out

The other day, my desktop computer crashed and after failing to fix it myself, I decided to send it to the repair shop. I didn’t have the time to meddle with it and I hate troubleshooting computers. I think that it’s absolutely tedious to shut the computer and put it back on after every slight change in hardware.

I sent a text message to my friend and told him that my computer has been hospitalized. He reminded me that I could use my notebook to log in to my Gmail account and look for the Global log off feature at the bottom of the Gmail page.

HHmm that’s new to me but what a nifty feature. I normally don’t log out of my Gmail account so since it crashed, I did not have the chance to get online and log out properly.

Gmail also reminds us that if we are afraid that our account has been compromised, maybe we did not get online quick enough to log out of our Gmail globally, we could change our password too. This is great for people who use auto-fill. LOL I am guilty of that!

Easy Navigation For User-friendliness

When I saw this website of Recruitment Juice I think that it would be most helpful to my cousin who works as an executive in a recruitment agency. Browsing through the website, I have the impression that Recruitment Juice is something innovative, fun and best of all, fresh. I guess the developers of Recruitment Juice recruitment training courses wanted their training module to be easily remembered and digested hence they play on the word “juice” and relate it to fruits every chance they get.

Also, looking at the packaging of their six training modules on DVD, I have the impression that they look like vitamins. I think it must be the young and refreshing colours!

Frankly speaking, this website is so easy to navigate that even someone who is not as web savvy would find it user-friendly. Ease of navigation is the most important aspect of a website and I am glad to say that Recruitment Juice passed with flying colours!

I don’t see the point of having a flashy website which is not able to convey what it is all about or what service it is offering. Recruitment Juice has stayed away from that kind of web designing that is every casual web browser’s nightmare.

Just like how they describe their training modules, the website of Recruitment Juice is certainly engaging.

Upgraded To FireFox 3 At Last

I finally upgraded my FireFox browser to FireFox 3. I had to wait till the add-ons that I MUST use have been upgraded as well before switching. Still, I only just upgraded it on my desktop computer and not yet change the one in my laptop. I will wait and see if there’s any issue. There are times where I will be an early adopted and there are times where I prefer to wait.

Before making the switch though, I felt as if my FireFox browser experienced such lag it was as if Mozilla had planted a bug on it to force all of us FireFox 2 users to upgrade. Well, I am not sure if that really was the case but if you think about it, companies could force our program to act in a weird way since it is always connected to the internet.

Having said this, FireFox is still not my primary browser. I use Opera, FireFox and IE at the same time, opening different websites with different browser. No matter what Mozilla says about FireFox being the fastest web browser around, Safari claims this as well, there are times where it takes ages to load a page and when I use IE to access the same site at the same time, I did not have an issue at all.

Google Retires AdSense Referrals

Did you read the notice that Google AdSense is going to retire their referral program? I think that all publishers were sent an email notification, if I a not mistaken, so do check that email account that you have on record.

I don’t know if it is a good or bad thing to terminate a referral program. I took down my referral buttons from my sites a long time ago. I have yet to check all my sites, though, so maybe some are still live. LOL

Anyway, I think that almost every webmaster is a publisher of AdSense already. Those who are not either do not know the potential in AdSense, do not want to implement AdSense on their websites or have been banned by AdSense already, unfortunately.

So if you still have AdSense referral buttons on your site, take them down, you will not get anything out of it and will only be wasting virtual real estate.

Free Lifetime Warranty For Modem

I mentioned that my telephone line was struck by lightning a week ago. Well, I have changed most hardware and got the telephone line repaired. However, since that strike, my internet connection has not been the same. My signal keeps dropping causing my internet connection to break.

I thought that it’s all because of the electric charge that has gone through my cables and hardware but my friends, who are also Streamyx subscribers, tell me that they are experiencing bad internet connections lately as well.

Anyway, I called TM customer service and made complaints that my signal keep dropping. After numerous calls and a lapse of a few days, they finally lodged a report for me.

This evening, the Telekom technician came and replaced my broadband modem/router for me. Well, he could not be sure if the problem was with the previous modem/router but he said let’s try a new unit and see if the problem persists.

The thing is, he does not know that I got hit by lightning. Anyway, I do have free lifetime warranty on my modems from Telekom because I was one of the first 5,000 Streamyx subscribers when they first launched in back in I have forgotten which year. Awesome!

So far, I did experience a drop in signal. Maybe Streamyx is crappy lately. Maybe it is a problem with my telephone cable. We’ll have to wait and see.
