How Blogs Have Evolved

Blogs used to be a platform for people to share their daily life with friends and family or a platform for people to share information on a particular subject. Now, there are people who set up blogs, they are so easy to set up and free, particularly to market a single affiliate program.

Well, obviously, these are NOT blogs, yet there are people using the free blog platforms to do so. Like I said, they are free and could be launched in a minute.

I think that if people have the sole intention of promoting an affiliate programme exclusively they should just set up a real one page website instead of using and abusing free blog networks. What do you think?

Losing the Essence As A Blogger

There’s a blog in the local blogosphere which compensates people for posting comments on the blog. If you have read this blog a couple of months ago, I am sure you will know which blog I am referring to.

The thing is, I believe this blogger uses Public Label Rights (PLR) articles to fill up his blog to add content and gain traffic. Well, that is not wrong but I have been following this particular blog since his first post, I know how this blogger writes and his grasp of the English language. When he subsequently added in PLR posts, one could easily read the difference in presentation and even the better command of the English language.

I personally feel that to garner popularity for his blog, this blogger has lost his essence as a blogger and killed his blog in the process. Of course, he could revive it if he continues to write blog posts in his own style.

Frankly, I do not enjoy reading those PLR posts even though they were written in excellent English. If I wanted to read those posts, I could always go to article sites and read from there, and not go to a blog. When we read a blog, we want to get to know the blogger and read his personality from his posts and we cannot do tat with PLR articles, could we?

Blogging For Your Readers

One of the hardest things about keeping a blog is gaining traffic. For people like me who hardly network and do not have a core of friends or family members to support any of my blog, since I do not provide them with the URL of any of my blogs.

So I depend a lot on organic traffic instead of direct traffic. Gaining organic traffic is not difficult if your blog is not being penalized by the search engines for a kind of violation or another.

Anyway, my point is, as a blogger, I blog each and every post as if I have readers. I don’t care if readers only come a month or two later, after being crawled by search engine bots.

The point is, I put my thoughts in each post no matter if anyone reads or not. I know most people just write filler posts when they start a blog. That’s not for me. What about you? If you have very low traffic levels, does that influence the way your present your posts?

Are You Obsessed With Your Blog Statistics?

I have to admit that I am, checking my traffic almost every hour and when the server of my traffic tracker is down, I actually experience withdrawal symptoms and wonder if there’s anyone coming to my blog!

Of course, there are posts that I write for love and do not care if anyone reads them but there are also posts that I would want as many people to read as possible! Call me fickle, heh!

This morning, I could not access the website of my traffic tracker, I think it’s because of my Streamyx that is unable to connect to some websites lately and not so much because of the website is down or their server has a problem.

Anyway, I could not check my traffic. At first, I was agitated but after trying for hours, it actually is pretty liberating not caring if there are people coming to read or not. I think I will try not to check my traffic so often from now onwards. TRY is the keyword here!

Creating A Dialogue Through Blog Comments

My father wanted to know why my blog has so little comments, compared to Lim Kit Siang’s blog. Aiya.. how to compare wor? He then told me that I should invite my readers to give their views in comments and then reply to those comments and create a dialogue between readers and myself.

Aiyo… my father thinks that it is so easy to be a blogger ah? Actually, he asked me to set up a blog for him but I am lazy. My friend advised me to make sure that I teach him how to “PPP” LOL!

Anyway, I told him that to be an popular blogger in a short cut way, you need old time bloggers to mention you and your blog and literally drive traffic to you. It helps if you are young and beautiful and female. It helps if you post lots of photos of yourself, or photos of others that you pass off as yourself.

But we all know how selfish most established bloggers are. Even if you know them personally, they never will mention you and if they do, they will think that they have done you a great favour. Bah.. no comments, no comments lah!
