Missing The Traffic

Well, the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games have concluded and as a blogger, I am missing the traffic already. Sometimes, it seemed like the whole world is out on the web looking for information on the Games, whether they were looking for Olympic photos, Olympic news, Olympic medal tally, Olympic quotes, funny Olympic moments, information on watching the Olympics online, or just curious about Google logo art during the Olympic Games, like why there was a diving pig or a dragon playing ping pong.

And then there was a different group of web surfers looking for information on the Fuwa, checking up what animals are represented by BeiBei, JingJing, HuanHuan, YingYing and NiNi.

For bloggers and webmasters alike, catching the trend is very important. I know of people who would set up a blog or website a few months before a major event like the Olympics, just so that they could cash in on the moment. Yes, “cash in” would be right.

As for me, I did not see a spike in my revenue, as you could see, I did not implement AdSense on my blog and I wrote about Google logo art for the love of the art. Anyway, the traffic killer, in my blogging experience, is still Edison Chen (EDC) and Kira. What about yours?

Are You Obsessed With Your Blog Statistics?

I have to admit that I am, checking my traffic almost every hour and when the server of my traffic tracker is down, I actually experience withdrawal symptoms and wonder if there’s anyone coming to my blog!

Of course, there are posts that I write for love and do not care if anyone reads them but there are also posts that I would want as many people to read as possible! Call me fickle, heh!

This morning, I could not access the website of my traffic tracker, I think it’s because of my Streamyx that is unable to connect to some websites lately and not so much because of the website is down or their server has a problem.

Anyway, I could not check my traffic. At first, I was agitated but after trying for hours, it actually is pretty liberating not caring if there are people coming to read or not. I think I will try not to check my traffic so often from now onwards. TRY is the keyword here!
