Undersea Fiber Optic Cable Ready In January, 2010

The undersea fiber optic cable that links South East Asia to America, a collaborative effort by leading telecommunications companies in the region, including Telekom Malaysia (TM), is said to be ready for service in January, 2010.

All of us here who need high speed internet connection are excited with the impending new service (cable carries a bandwidth of 1.92 terabits per second) but I can’t help but wonder how much we will be charged.

At the moment, I am paying MYR110 monthly for a 1MB package while my friends, who are subscribed to a 4MB package, only pay MYR160! The difference in price is so slight yet I am only getting a quarter of their speed but what could I do when the area I am living in does not support that speed? SIGH!

I know that at first, this new package will be expensive but I think that it would be a breakthrough and sooner or later, the price will drop. Perhaps then would be a good time to switch subscriptions!

Charter Ultra60 Mbps High Speed Internet

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Charter. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I first read about charter ultra fast 60 that’s currently available in St. Louis, Southern California and Northeast USA, I am so envious. Ultra60 is said to be one of the fastest high speed internet service in the United States. Luckily, the service is fast expanding to other areas as well and is said to completely cover all of Charter’s service areas by the end of next year. I am sure many of us are waiting for it to reach us!

As someone who spends a lot of time online for work and entertainment, internet connection speed is everything to me. Although cable internet is slightly more expensive than DSL, the thought of having 60MB of bandwidth that takes away my frustrations and sufferings using a slower internet connection is worth it.

Like I said, I spend a lot of time online working but at the same time, I am also a chronic MMORPG player. I NEED the fastest connection out there that I could get. When not working or playing games, I like to stream dramas online. Slow connections kill the joy of watching a good show with endless buffering and sometimes I have no choice but to download the file. THAT takes forever to complete! With Charter’s Ultra60 Mbps service, it would probably take me just a couple of minutes to download an episode of TV serial. Wouldn’t I love that!

While some people may think that they could get a similar broadband connection with DSL, I beg to defer. Cable internet technology is so much faster and more stable. Besides, cable is not distance sensitive so you don’t have to live close to your provider’s nodes to enjoy the best speeds.

Gizmo5 Acquired By Google

Google continues to extend its reach not only on the world wide web but also in web – mobile communications with the acquisition of Gizmo5. Gizmo5 has been in the centre of attention lately when Skype announced its intention of acquiring it should they lose the legal battle with its founders but that has been settled now. That’s probably why Google jumped in.

Gizmo5 engineers will now join the team at Google Voice. Although new features have yet to be announced, it is expected that they will be competing with Skype who holds 80% market share currently.

As a Gizmo5 user, I am of course, pretty excited about what’s to come from the Google team but let’s hope there wouldn’t be too many bugs and that we will continue to enjoy the features that Gizmo5 has offered us all along. Anyway, Gizmo5 no longer accepts new sign-ups so if you do not have a Gizmo5 account then that’s too bad.

gScreen Dual-Screen Spacebook Laptop

If you are a multi-tasker like I, you would probably be looking at two screens right now. I actually do not like that, therefore I am just relying on a 20in LCD screen. Hehehe.

Anyway, gScreen, an Alaskan based technology firm has come out with a dual-screen laptop which they named Spacebook and should be available this Christmas.

If you are hankering for a laptop which boasts two 15.4in screens, then be prepared to pay approximately US$$3,000 for it. Do bear in mind that the double screen will significantly increase the weight of the laptop and would be a battery hungry machine.

Without taking the price into account, I am not sure if my eyes would ever get used to looking at two screens simultaneously. I know I would be very distracted and I would not be able to concentrate and do some real work.

Also, carrying my 12 in laptop has become quite a chore now that I am thinking of replacing it with a netbook especially when I am on the move too much. I really don’t see myself capable of carrying a Spacebook for long without feeling the burden. And oh, the battery, I wonder if it comes with a slot for a backup travel battery! But that would only make the Spacebook even heavier. LOL

Adult TV In A BoXXX

My sister just subscribed to broadband internet but after a week, told me that the novelty has worn off and she no longer spends endless hours surfing the internet. One could only absorb so much information from the web, right?

Well, there are many uses besides surfing the web. We could watch TV too, like Apple TV. I got to know that there is also Adult TV like Apple TV where subscribers will be provided with a set up box called BoXXX which is a plug and play device connecting to the internet and TV screen. Naturally, subscribing to FyreTV, you can expect nothing but adult content at your convenience.

For those who are interested, and importantly above 18, subscription is only US$9.95 per month with free hardware and 100 monthly FyreTV credits. Using FryeTV to search for adult movies on TV looks easy enough, even if you are not familiar with Apple TV. In any case, with FyreTV, no longer do you have to waste time downloading adult movies of sub par quality over the internet or rent adult DVDs from your neighborhood video rental store.

I also understand that FyreTV allows viewers to search for their favorite porn stars and their complete movie collection. I think this is an awesome feature even though I do not have a favorite porn star. For more information, visit FyreTV.com

FTA Satellite TV Downloads & Keys

Although guys are supposed to be more technical minded, I have a friend, Lawrence, who messaged me the other day asking if I could help him troubleshoot his new satellite TV. He couldn’t seem to receive any signal.

Although I have satellite TV at home too, mine is a paid subscription so I have no idea about Free To Air satellite TV. Besides, we are living in different countries! I couldn’t help but I did ask him to search the web for a solution. His frustrations reminded me of a news article I read years ago about a man who suffered a fatal heart attack trying to set up his satellite TV. Yes, he was THAT frustrated!

Coincidentally, I got to know that there is a leading website, N2News, that offers FTA downloads, keys and software for a small subscription fee. They even offer 24-hour live email technical support and private forums for members.

What I like is the instant access that they offer which means that once payment is made, you can access all these important information on how to get your FTA satellite TV up and running in no time. In addition, files are updated daily which you could access at no additional cost. Lawrence may well find his solution here!

Kaspersky Mobile Security 7.0

My friend bought a copy of Kaspersky anti-virus software awhile back and it comes with Kaspersky Mobile Security 7.0 for free. He gave it to me since I am using a smart phone and he is just using a basic mobile phone. He said that only I come to mind because a lot of his other friends are also using just ordinary mobile phones that do not require the security that mind does. Moreover, I use my mobile device for a living. It is a work tool so he figured that I would be able to make the best use of it.

My friend sent me the download instructions and the key to register the software which I did. Unfortunately, it’s only good for six months. One would think that for such a large company like Kaspersky, they should at least offer us a year’s protection, right? Anyway, six months is better than none and long enough for me to try it out and I have to say that once this license expires, I wouldn’t be renewing it. LOL
