Nintendo DSi

Samm, my friend, wanted to sell me her used PlayStation as she is upgrading to a newer version. To be honest, I thought that I am already past the age of playing with game consoles but she said that even people who are older than us are hooked on them.

I told her I would think about it because I do not see justification spending a few hundred bucks on a game console, even if it’s a used set. I would also have to buy games for it, I was told. And that’s more money that I am reluctant to spend especially in the current economic climate.

Meanwhile, a friend visited me recently and let me have a go at his spanking new Nintendo DSi and I was instantly hooked. I have to admit that I am now thinking of buying the Nintendo DSi in black instead of my friend’s used pink PSP.

A brand new Nintendo DSi is sold at US$169.99 only and there is not such a huge difference in price between a new Nintendo DSi and Samm’s used PSP so of course a new game console is way more attractive and appealing. I could even share games with my sister and friend since they own a Nintendo as well!

Pre-book Your BlackBerry Storm With Maxis

A couple of my friends are so looking forward to the BlackBerry Storm that they are so ecstatic that Maxis has allowed customers to pre-book their BlackBerry Storm from 7th to 24th April, 2009. They will only be able to collect their BlackBerry Storm in early May. Other BlackBerry Storm lovers who would like to own a unit will only be able to purchase it from mid-May, 2009 onwards.

300 early birds will receive exclusive an accessory pack which includes a BlackBerry charging pod, leather holster and Jabra Bluetooth headset.

Maxis is selling the BlackBerry Storm at RM2,199 which comes with a 24-month contract plan while the one without contract will be sold at RM2,499. If it were me, I would surely opt out of a contract since the difference is only RM300.

It is said that BlackBerry Storm is one of the most innovative smart devices to date with its new touch screen feature where the screen will actually depress upon pressing. I’ve got to see this!

24in HD LCD Screen

My friend bought a 24in HD LCD desktop computer monitor a couple of weeks ago and at first, I thought that I wanted to get the same. He got it for RM1399 from LowYat Plaza which we think is a steal since it’s HD.

But now I have changed my mine since he experienced so much problems after changing his monitor. Well, he has no choice but to upgrade his screen since his two-year-old 19in flat screen from Acer broke down.

Some of the problems my friend experienced after installing this 24in HD LCD screen included power supply which he had to upgrade and with that heat generated from the new power supply, he had to add fans. Also, he had to change a new video card to support the monitor.

Frankly, I am not prepared to put even more money in my old system. If I have to change some of my hardware to accommodate a new, larger screen like his, I think I would rather not. I am only using a Samsung 17in CRT monitor and although it is a little small since I open four windows concurrently, as long as it runs fine, I have no complaints.

Longer Cable Headphone

I have been looking for a headphone with at least two metres of cable. Usually, the cheap ones come with only 1.5 metres and I couldn’t use them because my my audio jacks are at the back of my CPU which is stashed under my computer desk. So you can imagine how difficult it is to wear it comfortably.

Previously, I could buy such headphones and they are not very expensive but I think that they are already extinct.

Of course, I could set my audio to come out from the front of the CPU as I do have the jacks but I do not know how to do it and have to send it to the computer shop if I want to have it rectified but I don’t want to take the CPU out unnecessarily.

Anyway, meanwhile I will just continue looking for the headphone since mine broke already, and I am too cheap to buy a Bluetooth headphone! They are so expensive; unless I get it as a gift. LOL

HD Video Camcorder

If you read my earlier post, I have been trying to build my YouTube profile. Videos are the next tool for social media advertising and I like to be prepared and build my portfolio, though right now, I only have slightly more than forty videos.

Recently, my friend bought a digital camera that has the ability to shoot High Definition videos. Besides shooting videos, he also edits the raw files and I marvel at the quality of the videos that he has uploaded to YouTube.

Comparing my videos to his, I have to say I am so ashamed of my video quality that sometimes I would rather not upload them online. LOL

I have been thinking that I no longer want to buy a digital camera that I have been eyeing for sometime now. I now want to get a HD video camcorder, after all, it could also take digital photos, right?

Recommend Me A Good Netbook

A little while back, I was looking for netbooks. Until today, I haven’t found one that I really like that would fit my budget. My notebook is ten months old already and frankly, after lugging it around for that long, it is feeling a tad heavy. Having a netbook for the moments that I have to move around would be great.

Actually, my requirements for a netbook aren’t too demanding. While on the move, I’d probably just need to use it to keep my blogs updated, check email, instant message, Facebook, play on internet casinos, check on my eBay listings and watch a couple of movies. I believe these are just basic usage of a web surfer, right?

So far, I have tried out a couple of models that my friends are using. One is the entry level Acer Aspire One netbook and the other is the more expensive Fujitsu U2010. I’m more partial to Fujitsu not only because it has more features but also because my notebook is also Fujitsu and the brand is really reliable. Unfortunately, Fujitsu U2010 is more than double the price of Acer Aspire One! It is so difficult to decide!

160GB iPod Classic

My sister, who is living in the United States, tells me that all her friends, no matter which age group they are from, owns an iPod. Of course, there are different generations of iPods but it looks like everyone can’t live without one!

Frankly, I have thought of buying an iPod as well, particularly iPod 8GB Nano Red, which spots my favorite red color and it’s one of the products that supports the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.

However, as good luck would have it, I won an iPhone and I didn’t need an iPod anymore. If at all I were to buy anything from Apple right now, it would probably be an iPhone bluetooth headset. I don’t have any headset for my iPhone and can’t enjoy my music and videos without one.

Sometime in the future, I probably would buy an iPod Classic because of its sheer 160GB so that I could store all my music and videos and take them with me when I travel. The best thing is that iPods are getting cheaper and cheaper with better specifications and battery life too. We just have to shop smart.
