All Those Free Radio Stations!

With so much free music on the internet, do people still tune in to the radio? I do and in fact, my love for the radio which began when I was in junior high school never waned. Radios came and went and became more and more high tech. My interests in radio may have gone from the regular FM stations to Shortwave but I still prefer my radio than streaming music over the internet.

My friend, Paul, who lives in New York in the United States asked me if I have heard of the HD radio receiver. Well, of course I have! I wish that I can enjoy similar free services over here with crystal clear reception!

Do you think that it is fun to listen to Paul talk about New York High Definition radio stations that he gets to enjoy while I am left out of all the wonderful free radio stations?

Also, these HD radio receivers now come with iPod dock with iTunes Tagging that makes it easy for us to later purchase and download that particular music through iTunes and sync to our iPod.

I may not own an iPod yet but as the owner of an Apple iPhone dying to fill my 8GB with music, I think iTunes tagging is an awesome feature for music lovers to enjoy!

OOPS! I Did It!

I am so damn proud of myself! Just a couple of days ago, I wrote that I wasted a whole day trying to customize a supposedly premium WordPress theme. Well, although this is a premium theme, it is free but the bad part is that BECAUSE it is supposed to be an excellent theme but is being given out for free, many things were not functioning and it was is if the creator simply released a theme half-heartedly without adequate testing.

Well, you know how “good” I am with CSS. I really wanted to give up when the codes kept throwing me an error message after another. I wanted to change to another theme already but I persevered and I deleted all the broken functions that I could not fix and could live without them.

Even though I have got it customized with everything that I want in a theme, there are still a little here and there that are not perfect but I could close an eye to those imperfections.

I am so proud that I did not even ask anyone for help. At one point, I asked a guy, “Do you know CSS?” and he responded with, “What is CSS?” OK, I have to remind myself that just because he is a guy does not mean that he knows CSS!

That was when I decided to start deleting all broken functions to save myself from further headache! Haha!

Convenience Of iTunes Tagging

I don’t know about you, but I need to carry music with me wherever I go. Do you remember the days when you hear a song on the radio that a DJ played without mentioning the title of the song or the name of the artiste? I used to go online searching with keywords in the lyrics but luckily that is history already.

I was told that in the United States, iPod owners can get more free music now with the popularity of high definition radio that comes built in with an HD tuner that allows the listener to tag songs for easy download later on.

The convenience and ease of use of iTunes tagging that integrates with the iPod has allowed music lovers who own iPods to gain access to more music which they could purchase on iTunes later.

What surprised me was that this is a totally free service and if you would like to tune to to more new radio stations for free, all you need is a new HD radio receiver and start enjoying. This got me thinking, WHY would anyone want to hang on to their traditional radios anymore when there are so many more music and radio programs to enjoy for free?

Typical Malaysian Mentality

A few days ago, while doing a research for a blog post, I went to the blog of a prominent Malaysian politician to check on her statement as I wanted to link to source for her quote I was including in my post.

Well, I was surprised that she was using the WordPress theme that I used for this very blog. However, her theme has been customized, a very ugly job if I may say so AND the person who did that stripped off the link back to the creator of the theme at the footer.

So in my article, I wrote what I wanted to, and I also mentioned that the credit to the creator of the theme has been removed when we have to leave it intact as it is a free theme.

The web mistress dropped by my blog, “thanked” me for calling them out and reinstated the credit to the theme author. I think that we should always give credit where credit is due and since this is a theme that we can freely use, why remove it, right?

Moreover, another person who would like to use that theme could always go to the website of the theme author to download the code. Isn’t that great?

Anyway, after receiving that comment, which I did not even bother to reply, I went to the blog to check and yes, the author is linked at the bottom as it should be from the beginning.

Planning An Italian Trip?

My friend, Mark, read my post a couple of weeks ago about my dream of traveling to Italy and he gave me some pointers. Well, he should be experienced enough, since he has been to Italy a few times for business and pleasure!

According to Mark, first of all, I have to plan my itinerary well and then make reservations for the hotels. Of course, I would also have to shop and compare hotels within the cities that I plan to visit.

This certainly sounds like too much work and I can’t spare the time going all over the internet to search. Mark says to use a hotel reservations website called TripTake.com where if I want to look for hotels in Venice, I could just compare their ratings, reviews and most important of all, rates!

If you want to look for Florence Italy hotels, you can also do the same at TripTake.com because they have information for just about any hotel in Italy.

Mark told me that he also compared hotels in Rome online by doing to a website like this as it is very convenient and he could check out hotel ratings by guests.

For example, if you are looking for Milan hotels, I am sure you would want to know which ones have been given the thumbs up by guests, right?

One Day Wasted

Did you know that I wasted one whole day trying to fix a template? This is for my iPhone blog. I wanted to find a really professional template and I managed to get a WordPress premium theme for free but I think because it is free there are many loose ends in the codes.

Of course, since I am still feeling my way blindly in CSS-ville, my progress is extremely slow. After installing my new theme, I already spent about three days tweaking it. There seems to be a problem here, a problem there which I discover by the day and I have to get them fixed or change to another template. And that means going back to the drawing board, starting from the point of searching for themes again.

Aiyoh.. I am so afraid!

Right now, I would say that I am 90% done and there are only a few more things to get done. I hope I don’t need to kacau people. They don’t like it when I ask, as if I like to ask in the first place, meh?

Enough Of Family Reunion Gatherings

Over Chinese New Year holidays where everyone is back for a family reunion, it is not easy to get away from talk of investments, holidays and property ownerships. I don’t like any of these because each person would try to go one up against another and it gets kind of boring after a while, but to go through with this year after year ….

One Uncle would say that he has reservation for San Diego weekly rentals for his private holidays with his family and company trips for the staff. Another Uncle, upon hearing that, would go, “Hey, I OWN a San Diego beach house! I don’t need to rent for my holidays and in fact, I could RENT my beach house to you!” To get the last word in, yet another Uncle would say that he owns a quarter of San Diego real estate!

Of course, I am just giving an example of what could happen in a family reunion and that’s how it ends up most of the time. Who needs that anyway, right?
