Missing The Traffic

Well, the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games have concluded and as a blogger, I am missing the traffic already. Sometimes, it seemed like the whole world is out on the web looking for information on the Games, whether they were looking for Olympic photos, Olympic news, Olympic medal tally, Olympic quotes, funny Olympic moments, information on watching the Olympics online, or just curious about Google logo art during the Olympic Games, like why there was a diving pig or a dragon playing ping pong.

And then there was a different group of web surfers looking for information on the Fuwa, checking up what animals are represented by BeiBei, JingJing, HuanHuan, YingYing and NiNi.

For bloggers and webmasters alike, catching the trend is very important. I know of people who would set up a blog or website a few months before a major event like the Olympics, just so that they could cash in on the moment. Yes, “cash in” would be right.

As for me, I did not see a spike in my revenue, as you could see, I did not implement AdSense on my blog and I wrote about Google logo art for the love of the art. Anyway, the traffic killer, in my blogging experience, is still Edison Chen (EDC) and Kira. What about yours?

Follow A Blogger Blog

Blogger will soon be rolling out a Follow feature, which is like a little widget that shows off small images of your visitors. I hate that. When you come visit me, you can be sure that I will not have that widget on my blog (unless I am paid to put it up). LOL

This is because I hate to subject this on people who, like me, do not like it to be known that I have visited such and such a blog. I do not see the benefit of it except to quench our own curiosity of who among our blog friends came and read our blog.

I remember saying to a friend that her blog follower widget was breaking up her layout. I told her that she should remove it since it serves no purpose. She said that she wants to keep it because she would like to know who dropped by. DUH.

Anyway, no matter how popular such follow widgets get, I am adamant that I will not use it. I would like to maintain my privacy and I will accord this to my blog readers.

Blog Audit

For those of you who are not aware because you did not access the forum lately (because there’s too much witch hunting going on) or the blog (because it no longer updates on our dashboard), PPP will be running a blog audit where they will re-review all blogs in the system as a means of quality control.

Right now, it is not clear what basis they are using to decide which blogs make the cut and which do not, but soon we will know. I have a *bad* feeling that the majority of international blogs will be kicked out of the system but just because a blog is written by a blogger who lives in an English speaking country does not make it a “quality blog”.

Quality is so subjective but everyone knows that it has been sorely lacking lately. Perhaps it’s all because of the new, lower requirement which accepts blogs as young as 30 days old with only a minimum of ten posts.

While PPP discourages the set up of blogs solely for the sake of monetary gain, it is doing just the opposite by allowing these new blogs into the system when before, the minimum age of our blogs was three months with at least 90 posts, if I am not mistaken.

It has been said that this blog audit will take a month to complete but common sense tells us that it is not possible to review the 200,000+ blogs in the system within this limited time frame. I expect it to be a continuous effort by Customer Love so if we want to be in the system, we just have to be on our toes at all times.

What are your thoughts on this Blog Audit on PPP?

Blogging Dedication

Just now, I suddenly remembered that I have not been getting any alerts of new posts from a blog that I am subscribed to. Actually, it has been a long time but I just did not miss it.

Out of curiosity, I went to check out the blog of this blogger just to see if he is blogging, maybe on another blog, but no, the most recent post is dated July.

I remember that when this guy just started a blog, he said that he wants to fit at least three posts per day. I thought that is pretty dedicated to him to do so. I mean, I have published more posts per day before but that’s another issue all together.

Now that he has left the blog idle for more than a month, I think that it reflects badly on his company. Yes, it’s a company blog where the blogger blogs about news, information and case studies.

Published Post Missing

An odd thing happened that I discovered this morning. Somehow, my blog post was missing from my blog. I remember publishing it and even pinged Petaling Street. However, since the day I published that post, until this morning, I did not even access my blog. That was like, a week ago!

When I went there this morning to check on something, I noticed something amiss. Checking my little notebook, I was able to confirm that yes, I did publish a post not too long ago but it was nowhere to be found on the front page!

I had the presence of mind to check my Blog Drafts and sure enough, it was in draft! I wonder what happened that it went to draft instead of live. I don’t remember editing my post and clicking Save draft instead of Publish, or something like that. In fact, I am happy that it was in draft and not totally lost. You know, if it was totally lost, I would not even remember what post I wrote that day!

Back Up Blogger Posts

Did you read that Blogger is coming up with a new back up method for our Blogger blogs? Seriously, with three Blogger blogs with over a thousand posts each spanning at least a couple of years each, I am dying for the new feature. If there is one thing lacking about Blogger, it is the ability to back up our posts. Let’s forget about Categories. That is so unimportant compared to backing up our blogs regularly!

I am sure all serious bloggers back up their blogs at least once a day. There are some who would back up each time a new post has been published, or changes to the blog have been implemented. Whatever it is, Blogger should get this feature out ASAP so that we could safeguard our blogs. To tell you frankly, I am nervous that I have no control over my Blogger blogs.

If there is any improvement that would allow us to back up all posts, instead of then few hundred recent posts, I would welcome it with open arms.

Advertise On My Blog(s)!

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know that I have made changes to my layout. So, come quickly and advertise on my blog(s)! How much will I be charging? Well, I have yet to decide. I have so many blogs that I could actually make a package deal for the advertiser.

Of course, this will be a win-win situation. You know what? With advertisers on board on my sidebar buttons, it would even spur me to work harder to bring in the traffic to my blog. I know I have been lazy to network, which would help with traffic but haihh… I do not have the time to do it. I depend heavily on organic traffic so all I have time to do is to add relevant valuable content and pray I hit the vein.

So I hope that somebody will be good enough to support my efforts. I may not have the best traffic levels but I won’t be charging to high, I promise!
