Spammed By Emerging “SEO Specialists”

Over the past couple of days, I have been receiving a “comment” on my blog by a guy from India who would like me (and other people he spammed) to link up his site and he would give us link love from his PR5 blog.

I find it totally amusing because many people do not know that I run multiple sites and they send me the same message on all my sites and yet claim that they are not spamming.

If they could send me a message on each of my blogs, they could also do the same to other blogs who are on the same blog roll as I am. And they say that they are not spamming?

The funnier thing is that this company claims to be an emerging SEO specialist. Well, if I do require SEO services, I am not sure if I would engage them. I would not want my links to be considered as spam links!

Creating A Dialogue Through Blog Comments

My father wanted to know why my blog has so little comments, compared to Lim Kit Siang’s blog. Aiya.. how to compare wor? He then told me that I should invite my readers to give their views in comments and then reply to those comments and create a dialogue between readers and myself.

Aiyo… my father thinks that it is so easy to be a blogger ah? Actually, he asked me to set up a blog for him but I am lazy. My friend advised me to make sure that I teach him how to “PPP” LOL!

Anyway, I told him that to be an popular blogger in a short cut way, you need old time bloggers to mention you and your blog and literally drive traffic to you. It helps if you are young and beautiful and female. It helps if you post lots of photos of yourself, or photos of others that you pass off as yourself.

But we all know how selfish most established bloggers are. Even if you know them personally, they never will mention you and if they do, they will think that they have done you a great favour. Bah.. no comments, no comments lah!

Am I Or Am I Not A Malaysian Blogger?

The other day, I was chatting with a local blogger and he mentioned a couple of prominent bloggers but the problem was that he called them by their initials, as if we are both so close to them. He was throwing names like TT, JL, KS, XX, etc. Well, I always hate people using short forms because I can never make out what they mean unless I ask them outright.

I do know who he meant by TT and JL because we were talking about their flagship companies but I was stumped with KS. The first blogger which came to mind was “Kit Siang” and the problem was that this guy said that KS is “hot”.

I was shocked for a little while there and I said, “Lim Kit Siang hot meh????”

My friend was so amused, and he questioned if I was a Malaysian blogger. Of course I am but does that mean that I am a mind reader as well? Turns out that the KS he meant was Kenny Sia. Aiya…. Kenny Sia where got hot?

Robots.txt or Not?

I’ve been wondering lately if I should have a robots.txt file or not. In the early days, I did not have it but later I read that we are supposed to have it to guide search engine spiders on which links to crawl and which to ignore. So I uploaded it to all my WordPress blogs.

Lately, I have been getting crawl errors which are actually not errors but a direction from my robots.txt of not crawling those links. I hope you are following me!

However, I am sick of seeing those errors. I don’t remember if I used to have these errors but they are adding up lately!

I asked a few people who have been hosting their own blogs longer than myself and they said that they do not use Robots.txt. They just allow the spiders to crawl ALL links. That should be the case, though I read that it puts as as risk for duplicating content or something. HHmm makes one wonder if we should or should not use robots.txt.

What do you think?

RSS on EntreCard

If you have a blog with EntreCard, I am sure you will know that once you publish a post, you will have your latest post published o the homepage of EntreCard.

Well, the problem is that, with twenty active blogs that are linked to my EntreCard account, there was not once that I noticed that my post is on the front page. Twenty blogs and not even once! Is that weird or what? Yet, I see the same blog posts stuck on the homepage for hours… and not too long ago, for DAYS!

No wonder I also did not notice any additional traffic from EntreCard from their homepage. HHmmm what is wrong? I NEED traffic no matter which corner of the web they come from.

Unfriendly Blogger Labels

The labeling system of Blogger has got to be one of the most un-user-friendly features of Blogger. It seems like the more they add to Blogger, the worse it gets. I know that labeling has been around for a long time now but then when you spent hours labeling your old posts, the flaws become just too obvious.

If you remember, I spent some time recently labeling my old posts on my WordPress blogs and also Blogger blogs. It took me more than twice the time required to label the same number of posts.

Not only that. After labeling, I had to go over them because there would be wrong labeling without comma hence making two labels into one. And this is only one minor issue. Bah… it’s a waste of time but had to be done. Too bad it can’t be friendlier!

Updating Old Blog Posts

The other day, while blog hopping, I read from a blog that was supposed to teach us how to be a more successful blogger, that we should update our old blog posts with newer, more relevant information.

Well, with a few thousand blog posts published, I do not see how it would be possible for someone like me to take the time to update our posts. I would only do it for a couple of really hot posts that people look at as “authority” posts or one which has an evergreen topic that people would continue to search for.

But to do it for every post, or even the majority of the posts, nah, I don’t think so! However, I believe that blog readers should be savvier in looking at the date that the posts are published, so that they would be able to gauge how relevant the issue is at that point in time.

What about you? Would you want to spare some time going through your old blog posts and updating them with more up-to-date information?
