Notorious WikiLeaks Struggles To Stay Live

The notorious website of WikiLeaks that makes public secret government information and other trade secrets between large corporations is struggling to stay live on the world wide web after its service provider deactivated its account after a series of DDoS (distributed denial of service). WikiLeaks, since releasing some information on the Afghan war, has been faced with a lot of issues but these problems did not deter the owner, Julian Assange, from releasing even more top secret information.

While, we common folks have no idea how how truth there is in the secret information released on WikiLeaks, the fact that WikiLeaks is being attacked so strongly shows that there many quarters are afraid of the site and what may appear on it.

Franbkly, I don’t read WikiLeaks but I do read technology news that are reporting on the information released on WikiLeaks so I do know what’s going on. Since these are highly secret files, I wonder how they could end up being published on WikiLeaks. What do you think?

Tweaking Search Engine Optimisation

I am forced to migrate my blog to another server, either this weekend or next. It will depend on when my friend is able to help me with it. For the past two months, my blog has exceeded its monthly bandwidth limit and even though I am offered cheaper seo services, I dare not take these offers up because my server couldn’t handle the surge in web traffic.

Once I have migrated my blog to a new unlimited bandwidth hosting package though, I will go all out to fine tune my current search engine optimisation because my blog will then be “Digg proof” and would be able to better handle whatever onslaught of traffic. Oh yes, I do wish for that onslaught! After all, traffic means money!

Although this friend also could help with search engine optimisation, I feel bad to ask him to help me with it since he is helping to migrate my WordPress blog for free. I can’t be too greedy, can I?

Celebrities Stay Silent On The Web On World AIDS Day

1st December is World AIDS Day and as a way to support a non-profit organisation that helps families affected by HIV/AIDS called Keep a Child Alive, that was co-founded by Alicia Keyes, celebrities will stay silent on 1st Dec, until the goal of $1 million is charity donations from fans is reached.

Fans can support the charity by sending a text to a celebrity to keep him/her alive or to scan a barcode on the t-shirt that the participating celebrities are wearing in the advertisement.

Do you think US$1 million could be collected from fans for one day, or even less than that? If the goal is not reached will these celebrities stay silent on twitter, Facebook, etc. for longer than a day until the target of US$1 million is reached?

Driving & Sustaining Web Traffic

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Bill Schnell. All opinions are 100% mine.

As a blogger running multiple blogs, my main concern is producing quality content but the funny thing is that some of my blogs receive more traffic, even though I did not put in as much time or effort on them. I know I am not alone in looking for a larger slice of the web traffic. A friend tells me that it’s not necessary to write the best content because it is a matter of writing smart. But how?

Traffic-cover

This eBook, The Traffic Plus, teaches us how to work smart in generating web traffic to our website or blog by not only updating it with quality content but evergreen content that is always relevant to web users.

I like it that I don’t have to search all over the web for answers on how to get a piece of web traffic and to sustain the level of traffic once achieved because it’s all in the eBook, tried and tested. Imagine the time saved by implementing solutions that are proven to work than to go by trial and error, wasting previous time doing something new and then waiting for the “magic” to happen.

This eBook is definitely worth a look, especially if you are new to blogging, so that you start off on the right footing. It’s not a matter of how long one has been in the game, but how smart.

iPad Launched in Malaysia 30th Nov 2010

Surprisingly, iPad is now available in Malaysia, and at one of the lowest prices in the world to boot, ranging from RM1,549 to RM2,599. Pity my friend who bought his iPad in Singapore at RM600 more a couple of months ago. The good news is that we can buy iPad without a contract at authorised Apple resellers. At the same time, we could also buy it through telecommunications companies, with contract, and cheaper price for the iPad.

Although I am looking for a tablet myself, I don’t think I will fall for the iPad hype. I already have an iPhone and having an iPad is redundant so I am waiting for a good Android based tablet, and there will be so many flooding the market next year so I am holding on till then till the market is more mature.

There are actually so many different tablets to choose from, I don’t have preference yet. I may even get a netbook that comes with a swivel foldable screen that doubles up as a tablet. Well, the most important thing for me is that it can really work. The iPad, to me, is not a work device.

Online Directory of Doctors & Hospitals

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of vertigo. All opinions are 100% mine.

My sister has been in extremely poor health this past year and the climax was that she collapsed in a New York hospital while on holiday with her husband and 911 had to be called. Since this episode, friends and family have been recommending various specialists to her and she told me it’s overwhelming to check the doctors out one by one.

By chance, I was introduced to Healpth.com this morning, which is like a directory for doctors and hospitals in the United States. Think of it as LinkedIn except that this one is focused on doctors and hospitals.

I find a directory like this extremely useful, especially to people like my sister who is in search of better health and with so many doctors recommended to her, she could easily check out the profiles of these doctors, read about their specialization and reviews by patients, if any. This means that my sister, or anyone in her shoes, would not have to visit these doctors one by one or ask around friends who have consulted with these doctors before or worse, go to the doctor only to find that he or she is someone who is too busy to listen to the patient.

My sister has insurance which covers hospital fees from only a handful of hospitals in her city. This directory is a good way to get the lowdown on each hospital so that in case of emergency, she would know which one to go to, to ensure that she is in the best hands.

This is one website that one should browse continuously whilst one is healthy. It’s a starting point to put our health in order.

Migrating WordPress Blog To Another Server

It looks like even though I have already streamlined my WordPress blog as much as I could, I am still using a lot of bandwidth. My web host has told me that I should upgrade to the next package, which would double my cost, and double my disk space and bandwidth but I am not willing because I have been paying, these past three years, a price that I should be getting this “double of everything” package. And besides, my host didn’t help me to look for bandwidth leak and kept asking me to upgrade, which is not a solution right now.

So I am thinking of migrating my WordPress blog to my primary monster hosting account which is allocated with 100,000 MB bandwidth which is shared with a few lower traffic blogs. Now, the problem is how to do that. I have been researching the web and people are saying to backup databases and move files from one server to another. That sounds easy but I know that it is not this easy when one actually does it.

I have found some WordPress plugins that promise to clone our WordPress blog which we can then restore it on another server. HHmmm they are not cheap though, and engaging the services of WordPress migration is US$100 per blog!
