Seduce A Celeb @ GoFish.com

I was actually searching for funny video clips to watch on the internet when I stumbled upon Free videos at GoFish.com. These videos, however, are like no other because they are all submissions to the Seduce A Celeb contest that is being run for 14 weeks on GoFish.com

The celebrity in question is none other than Mirelly Taylor, the star of movies such as Kiss Me Again and Serving Sara and TV shows “Las Vegas”, “Punk’d”, and “Numb3rs”. I am sure you are familiar with her!

Seduce A Celeb is one of its kind. While there are other similar win-a-date with a celebrity contests, this contest is open to everyone who resides in the United States who has an internet connection and could come up with a decently hilarious video. Seduce A Celeb has received tremendous support from GoFish members who have thus far, submitted MANY creative videos in a bid to win a date with the sexy Mirelly Taylor. The support is also thanks to the ease and hassle-free participation where all they need to do is answer Mirelly’s call to action with a video each and upload it to the website to be judged and voted on. This direct participation has created a friendly sense of competition among participants which is not surprising in view of the prize!

I would be interested to see Jennifer Lopez next on the celebrity line up. She is seriously hot, I tell you!

Blosxom :: the Zen of Blogging

I came across this open source software called Blosxom – pronounced Blossom that is supposed to make blogging easier. I don’t know how far true this is. If there is someone to set up for me, I am willing to try. If you ask me to install and configure it myself, then no thank you lah. I will get a monster headache and give up. I hate technical issues, you know? But please don’t tell me that I am a “typical girl” because I am not.

Anyway, I tried searching for blogs that are published through Blosxom but I cold not find any and have no idea where to start.

I think the Blosxom site should have a directory of blogs that are using the software so that we can see the features that it has and can do in a real blogging environment.

If you are interested to try this out, check Blosxom’s website.

Podcast with David Sifry of Technorati

I was searching for something on Technorati on the internet when I stumbled upon this podcast interview with David Sifry, the CEO of Tehcnorati, on www.SwissStartups.com. Swiss Startups is run by Dominik Tarolli and the company specializes in working specifically with internet startups, helping them with funding, helping investors find the gems among all the new startups and most of all, believing in new ventures and turning business models into successes.

In this podcast held in San Francisco, David Sifry introduced himself and talked about how he managed to venture into computing and business and eventually ended up as CEO of Technorati, one of the most popular websites and authority on website ranking, and to think that the company is only slightly over four years old and grown to such to phenomenal company in the fickle world of the internet, with employees across America and partnerships with Technorati Japan.

It is amazing to me that David’s first business venture was at 16 years old doing computer consultancy. So it is no wonder that David has continued to get himself involved in various ventures, some were successes while some were failures but all have been valuable learning experiences.

In this short podcast interview, David managed to share his insights on entrepreneurship, Technorati and also the blogosphere. If I have the chance, I would like to ask David why my Technorati rankings for my blogs are not updated and my support tickets are not answered since February, 2007!

Don’t Write In Slang

Although I write a lot of sponsored posts, I read a lot of them as well. Not to steal ideas, mine you, but just to see how people interpret each assignment. No two people can ever write the same unless it’s a copy and paste work because each person has a different perspective of things.

Recently, I submitted a post which after submission, thought that the advertiser will not be happy that I have took up the opportunity because I thought that he will think the theme of my blog is irrelevant to his product. If I have pondered on this before writing and submitting my post, I would have foregone the opportunity.

To my surprise, the advertiser left me a comment saying that he liked the way I presented his product and also as a side remark, mentioned that some other people who took up the opportunity wrote in slang that he could not make head or tail of what was written.

On one hand, some bloggers write in slang to better gel with their regular posts or they like to sound ultra friendly and at the same time provide back links to the advertiser’s website. On the other hand, advertisers like to read about their own products and when they are written in slang, the advertisers just do not get it, so better not.

PayPerPost’s HDTV Tuesdays

If you do not already know, I am a proud member of the exciting blog marketing company, PayPerPost. Since I joined them as a Postie, I have been quietly making a tidy sum of money that goes towards extras for the family.

The good news now is that not only do we get to earn cash through, we can WIN great electronic gadgetry as well! May is a high tech month at PayPerPost where every Tuesday, PayPerPost holds HDTV Tuesday and the latest Audio Video equipment are slipped into specially marked Opportunities. Well, they don’t look especially special outwardly, until you click them and get a “SURPRISE!”

Until now, my fellow Posties have already won themselves cool stuff like Apple TVs and a PS3. And for those of us who failed to grab them, we still have hope in winning something as there are three more Tuesdays in May, including an HDTV at the end of the month.

Today, 15th May, 2007, we stand a chance to win *hold your breath* a Slingbox, a Nintendo Wii, a Yamaha Surround Sound System or a Logitech universal remote. This contest is made possible by Bid4Prizes, a cool company which runs a unique auction house, where the person with the lowest unique bid wins!

One thing though, I suspect that all HDTV Tuesday prizes are only available to Posties in the United States but that won’t stop me from participating in the excitement! You can read more on PayPerPost’s HDTV Tuesdays on their blog.

The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF)

When I stumbled upon the website of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF), I feel compelled to blog about it. Brain tumor, even if only the words alone, will always remind me of a friend I used to know who suffered from brain tumor at seventeen years old.

At that age, we do not know much about the medical problems but we know that she suffered tremendously. We never asked her if it was a benign or malignant tumor but having a tumor in the brain is a blow big enough.

This friend of mine had to miss one whole year of schooling but the consolation is that missing one year of school is nothing compared to having her life saved.

Anyway, The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF) needs public help to fund the research of finding a cure for pediatric brain tumor and there are many ways to donate. Please check out their website.

Living In Debt

I feel that many people are become less able to manage their finances. For one, it is getting increasingly easy to apply for loans, especially unsecured loans and the interest rates are so high but the borrower will never think of that when all he wants is some cash on hand.

Many of my friends are already living in debt although they are still young. Most have a car loan while some have home improvement loans. The worst people are those who take out secured loans so that they can start a business. I think these are the worst lot because can you imagine what happens if their business venture fails and then they end up losing their business AND also their asset, most probably their family home?

Sometimes, I feel like the poorer one is, the worse it gets due the the ease in apply for loans, hence the a life riddled with debts. Unfortunately, this is the reality of life in the 21st Century.
