Too Dependent On Technology

It is so scary how dependent we are on technology. I friend just called me up to tell me that he can’t load his computer after it was forced shut this morning due to power failure. Well, you see, without the computer to work with, he is going to be wasting the night away. Of course, he has back up in the form of a laptop but then it does not help when all the graphic intensive software is installed on his desktop computer only.

This reminds me of the time my computer also could not load at all after a series of power failure that caused my computer to shut numerous times A DAY. That was before I bought my Universal Power Supply. Well, that episode wasted my one whole day. Of course, it did not take that long to do a clean install but then reinstalling all relevant programmes and configuring my preferences took quite a few hours as well.

I know of people who self impose a “no computer day” one day a week but I cannot do that. To be away from the computer for that long means that I would not be earning. In fact, even if I am not working at the computer, I am either watching movies, playing games, chatting with friends and browsing various websites, blogs and forums. It just shows how dependent I am on the computer and internet!

Las Vegas Photos

A blogger friend who went to those blogging conventions about a month ago sent me a bunch of photos of this trip there. Wow, I was impressed with the activities that were planned for them BUT I was more impressed with the sights and shots of the various Las Vegas Hotels, restaurants, the lights and glitz.

I used to think that it would cost an arm and a leg to visit Vegas but this friend told me that there are many things that could be done for free in Vegas and those who are lucky in gambling might even win enough to supplement their vacation expenses.

This friend told me that he does not have time to blog about his Vegas trip at the moment since he has to prepare for the holidays. I can’t wait to read about his experience in Vegas. Just viewing his photos is not enough!

Santa Claus Offline

I noticed that Santa Claus has gone offline from my Windows Live Messenger for the past two days. What happened to the BOT? I thought that it could be online 24/7? I told my sister that I chatted with Santa Claus on messenger and she asked if I he is not some sleazy old man. Hahaha!

Well, I think that after writing that blog post where I published the transcript of our chat, Santa Claus has blocked me. :( I thought that I would chat with him again last night as I had some time to while away. Oh well.

I do, however, have many other Windows Messenger Live IDs which I could use to add him to my buddy list of my messenger but for what lah…. waste time only! Well, I would like to think that it’s “his” loss for not chatting with me. Haha!

Various Kinds Of Credit Cards

The other day, I asked a friend why he has so many credit cards. You should see her handbag! It was full of credit cards and receipts!! LOL She told me that it’s because she wants the different benefits that come with the cards.

I remember when I was looking to apply for my first credit card, I got so confused because of the many different kinds of cards and their terms and conditions in small print but thanks to the internet, I managed to do my research and could differentiate one card type from another, from cash back credit cards to air miles credit cards.

Just the other day, I told a friend who has bad credit that he should try applying for bad credit credit cards. With a bad credit credit card, he would be able to slowly build his credit again provided that he settles his credit card bill promptly at the end of the month.

Did you know that there are really so many different credit cards to cater to people from all walks of life and with different interest? After I applied for my credit cards, I did not check the credit card market for a long time. I was surprised when a friend told me that he has successfully applied for one of those football credit cards. OK, I guess I should not have been surprised considering that he is a die hard football fan and surely he would want to support his favorite team no matter how!

Complete Ranking

This morning, I was checking out my FireFox browser and then I saw this @ sign at the bottom of my browser. I have forgotten that I have installed Search Status. I have only set Search Status to display the Page Rank and Alexa readings of websites. I right clicked on it and discovered that it could also show the Complete ranking. Whoops, I did not know that.

I did not explore about Complete at all although I have heard of it. Someone told me a long time ago that Complete is more accurate, that it is not easy to manipulate, at least not as easy as Alexa.

But then I was also told that Complete will only record unique hits from Americans. Is that true? Why are American unique visitors any better than Malaysian unique visitors? Traffic is traffic, right?

To me, if you are on the web but you are not serving the global users, then your product is screwed and I am not talking about Complete here. Bleh.

A Trip To Orlando

I was told that my friend has made plans to visit Disney World in January next year. He said that the weather would be perfect then. I wouldn’t know since I have not been there before!

Even though there is still time before he and his family actually leave for the trip, he has already made reservations for flight, accommodation and the all important Disney Tickets. It was so funny when he told me that his children threatened to boycott him if they do not have tickets to visit Disney World.

That was why he went looking all over the internet to buy these tickets as soon as possible to ensure that the kids do have the tickets and will have a good time in Disney World. I think it is a great idea to buy these before departure so as not to have to waste time standing in queues!

Have You Donated Rice?

The other day, I wrote about the website FreeRice.com, well, have you tried it out yet and donated rice? I find this concept absolutely great and I have been to the site to play a little more and donated a little more. I love it that I unwittingly get to improve on my vocabulary, even though at times I just tembaked like hell 😀 but even so, I do try to remember the words that I am unfamiliar with.

If you have a little spare time, GO and donate some rice. I am trying to set a side a little time every day to play, to learn and to do a little charity.

Now, I was asked if this site will really donate rice and what do they gain. I don’t know. Do it even if it only makes you feel good. Chalking up good karma points by doing charity doesn’t depend solely on FreeRice.com, right??
