Doctors Go High Tech

How many times have we the impression that doctors are not keeping up with technology. Last year, I mentioned before that my doctor wanted to set up a website but he does not know how and do not have the time to learn. He told me that after work, what he usually does is to pore over medical journals, research on cases on the web and video conference with doctors overseas.

Now, thanks to new software from Epocrates, doctors are able to check up drug information right from their PDA or mobile device. To keep up with the times, this software from Epocrates is also able to support the iPhone.

I am sure many of us already know about the comprehensive drug reference guide from Epocrates. By allowing doctors to access it easily through mobile CME via their electronic devices, doctors could obtain vital information on the go. This also means that doctors can narrow their margin of error in regards to side effects and reaction between two or more drugs.

Important Changes on Exabytes’ Policies

I received an email notice from Exabytes about their important policy changes that will be in effect from 1st May, 2008. By the way, I think ALL policy changes are important. Is it not so?

Anyway, I am no longer a customer of Exabytes, have not been for a year or so, if not mistaken, but they still continue to send me email updates and a greeting card through the mail. Once, they even billed me! That’s awful business blunder, me thinks.

From the important policy changes, I think the really important point to note is that they no longer allow email hosted with them to be forwarded to free email accounts or online groups.

I used to use this feature of theirs but no longer. I tell you, setting it up was such a hassle, I think I wrote more than ten emails to them. Why can’t they make it simpler? I’m glad they have decided to do away with it!

New Alexa Methodology

I am not sure if you read about Alexa’s new methodology, or if anyone even cares about Alexa anymore LOL but then since they changed the way they track traffic to our blogs and not depend entirely on which browser is installed with the Alexa toolbar and which isn’t, I have seen a vast improvement in the Alexa readings of most of my blogs.

For some blogs, I see a reduction of a few hundred thousand! I hope they stay that way. I know they make no difference anywhere anymore whether they are high or low because many advertisers and marketplaces do not care about our Alexa readings but it makes me feel good seeing the low numbers.

How ever the new Alexa methodology works and how it affects our blogs and websites [ I did read the technical details but I did not GET IT], I don’t care as long as I do not have awfully high readings!

Trading Gold Online

A friend asked me if I know of a company that would allow him to trade gold online. I actually do know a couple but because I have no personal experience dealing with these companies, I did not recommend them to him.

When it comes to investments, I usually do not like getting involved. You know, people will curse and swear at you if they lose money because of what you said or did. However, when they win money because of you, most of them won’t even thank you. So, my philosophy is to stay far away LOL

A little while back, I learnt that we could buy real gold and have them privately delivered to us and we do not even have to in a large quantity because this company welcomes small time investors as well. I think that if I have the capital, I would rather invest in real physical gold that trading it online.

Save 15% At Register.com

I received an invitation code from Register.com whereby we can save 15% off our order from them. The code is 15OFF4 to be applied at check out. This code is valid until 30th April, 2008.

I have no idea how many times this code could be used, if it is only for me to use or anyone could use it. But there’s no hard trying.

Personally, I will not be using it and I do not intend to buy anything from them. Their prices are on the high side, don’t you agree. Why? I don’t know. I buy all my domains from NameCheap.com

If you are going to use this invitation code, do let me know via Comment if this works for you. It will be helpful to other readers. Thank you!

Outlook Express Service Change

Did you receive an email regarding Outlook Express Service Change and that it will no longer be supported from 30th June, 2008? The service will be replaced by their Windows Live Mail. I actually love Windows Live Mail more and emails were delivered instantly unlike Outlook Express which takes ages to load.

However, if you are using a pirated copy of Windows then it is too bad because you will need a critical update on the Operating System to run Windows Live Mail. I don’t know, maybe pirates with come out with something similar to Windows Live Mail.

But to me to be able to use Windows Live Mail, it is worth it to use an original copy of Windows. I just wished that the RSS Reader of Windows Live Mail has the ability to receive feeds instantly too!

Candid Wedding Photos

My friend, Alex, the wedding photographer, told me that nowadays, bridal couples prefer to take their own candid photos by supplying disposable wedding cameras to their guests during their wedding reception or dinners. They still do engage professional photographers, but that’s only because the older generations would like to see “proper”, conventional wedding photos.

I first learnt of disposable wedding cameras in the 1980s when I attended my cousin’s wedding in Singapore and I thought that was a pretty good idea. It’s good to see that this idea has caught on so well by bridal couples.

If you are getting married and did not consider equipping your guests with disposable wedding cameras, I think you’d be missing a big part of the fun of your own wedding! Imagine going through an album of candid wedding photos years down the road. What memories these photos will bring!
