Technorati’s 2008 State of the Blogosphere Survey

Did you receive an invitation to participate in Technorati’s Blogsposhere Survey? Well, I received the invitation a couple of days ago and yes, I contributed what I could in the survey. It’s kind of difficult for me to answer the questions as I have twenty blogs. I know that I am supposed to have a primary blog but which is my primary blog? I have too many, like my friend says.

If you are interested to participate in this survey then here is the link: http://v2.decipherinc.com/survey/mmc/mmc08001

I don’t know how long it took me to complete the survey but it is rather lengthy. I was told that it would take 15 – 20 minutes, though. I think I took longer than that. Don’t surveys always give you a shorter time than it would take to complete it just so that you won’t be scared off from doing it?

Anyway, what I do not like about the survey is that it looks like answers are submitted to Technorati as an when I was answering the survey questions. It did not look like I had an option to go back and change my replies. Oh well, I have already submitted it and hope to see the blogging trend in September, when Technorati says that the results of the survey will be out.

Javascript Tutorials and Guides

Although I may own a slew of blogs and websites, I find codes to be a major headache. I tell you, I would rather pay friends to customize my sites to meet my needs but they tell me that it’s too simple and they feel bad taking my money.

And what they do is not to help me directly but show me links to resources! Eeekkk! Codes are like Greek to me so that isn’t really helpful!

If you are learning Javascript, just like me, then a good place to start is a Javascript tutorial site like http://javascript-reference.info where you will find tutorials and guides on all things Javascript.

Let’s face it. Websites are so important nowadays in our professional and personal lives that it is almost imperative to have a new skill under our belt. I am learning no matter how I dislike codes and scripts!

Scrabulous Removed From Facebook

I just got the news a couple of hours ago that Hasbro, the rights holder of the game, Scrabble, in the United States, has sought to have Scrabulous removed from Facebook. The international rights holder of Scrabble is Mattel.

Although I am not a big time Facebooker, I know that Scrabulous is one of the more popular word games there and most of my friends are addicted to it. It’s kind of sad that the app has to be removed like that and the creators, Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla may possibly face court action.

So I guess my friends and other Scrabulous game players will have to get addicted to some other games; go back to their Mob Wars and Super Pokin’. And of course, I am sure somebody will start a petition to bring back Scrabulous to Facebook. Will it work? I guess it will if Mattel and Hasbro somehow make a profit from that!

Split5 Web & Design Services

If you know of my blogging background, you will know that I run twenty blogs, own an ecommerce site and a personal website. Fellow bloggers tell me that I should use the most boring of templates to entice readers to click out of my blogs and websites via advertising links. Well, I do not subscribe to that. I take pride in my blogs and I love the fact that I take pains to give an individual identity to each of my blogs.

Lately, I felt the need to revamp a handful of my blogs, especially my Blogger blogs. I have gone through so many free designs but not even one could meet my expectations. I somehow think that maybe this time, for once, I will not be cheap and actually PAY for my templates and layouts! I know that I am a wee bit fussy! :-)

Early this morning, I have been introduced to SplitFive’s Web & Design Services. I have to admit that I have never heard of this company before but the first thing I do, whenever I come across a design company, is to check out their portfolio and I have to say that I am pretty impressed with some of their custom site designs. I wonder if they design WordPress themes and Blogger HTML templates or XML layouts and most importantly, I really want to know their charges!

China Has The Highest Number Of Web Users

I read a news report just today that China has the highest number of internet users, surpassing even the United States. Actually, who is surprised? Certainly not me. China has the world’s highest population and although they are slow in developing, they are fast catching up.

According to this same report, China also has the highest number of mobile subscribers in the world. I think this is a given already.

China has been a sleeping giant all these while but they have opened up in recent years and this has enhanced their socio economic standards.

See, China will be hosting the upcoming Olympics and this will introduce the country to even more people around the world, bring in tourists and tourists dollars, raising the standard of living of fellow Chinese even further.

I think that China will be a country to be reckoned with in Internet Technology this five to ten years into the future. What do you think?

Cisco Training and Certification

My friend, Jason, was telling me that it is so tough to look for a new job. I was a little surprised as he has a recognized degree, so what hope do I have?

Jason tells me that working in the IT industry is very tough as there are more and more new graduates yearly with new skills and fresh ideas. However, I feel that it is up to us to keep abreast with the industry and continue to get additional training with certification to show.

My friends who are making good progress in their IT careers say that it is imperative to get Cisco training and certified as Cisco certification is recognized worldwide and employers know not to doubt our knowledge in IT.

After going though the module of Cisco, I realized that although I am not an IT graduate, I find that I already know the basics of networking from managing the network of computers in my own home office. I think that I should get myself proper Cisco training and Cisco certified too should I need to go out and work and a career in IT is certainly promising!

The most suitable certification for me would be entry level Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENTâ„¢) Certification as there are no prerequisites required. Once I have that, I could continue with a higher level of certification. Although I work for myself and really do not need to get certified, it surely boosts my self-esteem to have my IT skills recognized. And like I said, it would be great to have something to fall back on should I need to join the workforce.

How Cool is Cuil?

Former Google engineers launched their very own search engine called Cuil, pronounced as “cool”, claiming that it is indexing even more pages than Google, and not tracking the searches and surfing habits of users, unlike Google. Evil!

So how cool is Cuil? While some people are saying that it is not cool because it did not turn up as many search results as Google did, or perhaps not at all, Cuil is backed by Venture Capitalist funding to the tune of US$33 million.

So I guess as with all new start ups, let’s give it some time. As for me, I will continue to use Google Search Engine until Cuil is more established and REALLY have way more indexed pages like they claim. If so, I would just turn to Cuil because I really do not appreciate having my searches tracked and surfing pattern studied and analyzed. Cuil’s search layout may take some getting used to, though!
