Is There Less Spam In Your Inbox?

Authorities in the United States announced yesterday that they have successfully traced and shut down one of the largest spam email syndicate in the world, that span a few countries from New Zealand to China and the United States, sending out billions of spam email a day, peddling prescriptive drugs from male enhancement drugs to weight loss pills.

Reading the report, I was pretty surprised that these websites were hosted in China while drugs were shipped from India and payments were processed in Cyprus and Georgia. Isn’t that extensive? They must be making lots of money.

Anyway, after using email for more than ten years now and being swamped by millions of spam email and spam blog comments now, I know not to click on links in spam email or even take the trouble to open them. Also, we should never trust websites that we got to know of via spam email. How trustworthy are they, particularly if we are required to submit our personal or financial information, like when we are making a purchase online?

Understanding Webhosting Better

It has been almost two years now since I shopped for webhosting. Little did I know that so many things have changed since then. Now, when I am shopping for cheap web hosting for a new charity website that I plan to set up, I have so many more issues to decide upon.

When I was reading a webhosting blog this morning, I found out that as a webmaster, we could also do our part in energy conservation. Many webhosts have gone green and operate on renewable energy sources. By hosting our websites with these webhosts, we get to contribute to the environment, even though it may just be a small part.

If you have been looking for webhosts, I feel that you must read the blog of Web Hosting Geeks so that you could understand the different webhosting packages better and see which one suits your needs the most.

To me, the most important issue hosting my websites and blogs is the reliability of my webhosts and their ability to provide me with maximum uptime. Cost of hosting my sites is just a secondary concern.

I believe that after going through the informative posts on the Web Hosting Geek’s blog, you would be able to make a better webhosting choice, like me.

NuffNang Seems To Be Down

And it has been HOURS now. I didn’t really count how many hours but I think it has been at least 12 hours because I recall that I have been unable to access the NuffNang website since last night but I did not check if my blog were able to load at all due to this technical glitch because I thought that this is just a small issue.

This morning, it looks like I still could not access the NuffNang website and much to my regret, my blogs are loading at snail’s pace. Thank god I am not a heavy NuffNang user and my ad codes are placed in the sidebar but still, it’s irksome because this means that my readers would not be able to view the rest of the stuff in my sidebar that are placed below my NuffNang ads unless they wait patiently.

Although I know not to expect things to be perfect at all times, I think that it’s unacceptable when an issue has been prolonged without a notice, let alone an explanation. Let’s see how things go in the next few hours. I would really hate it if I have to remove the ad codes so that my blogs could load faster.

Same Issue With My Third Belkin ADSL 2+ Modem with Wireless G Router

So I wrote that my Belkin ADSL 2+ Modem with Wireless G Router disconnects from my broadband connection regularly. I don’t know if it’s heat of whatever but I know that it’s totally abnormal. I went to get an exchange for the third time last evening and I kept my fingers crossed that it’s not a problem with Belkin per se but a problem with just that particular wireless router.

Well, too bad, because the same problem occurred. Now, I have no choice but to seek an exchange of another brand name and pick up some other stuff, perhaps a thumbdrive, that they are selling to make up for the balance since Belkin is at least RM50 more expensive than other wireless routers.

I am annoyed not only because of the running around but the fact that I paid more for Belkin because I would like to have lifetime warranty against my wireless router. Changing to another brand name, I would only get the standard one year warranty. SIGH!

Syncsort Disaster Recovery Software

Computer technology may be very important in our daily living. It helps us with our work. But did you know that many people do not take time to back up their data regularly? Since the times I lost my data, I have made it a habit to back up my data on a daily basis.

However, for people who have lost their data, they could try using Syncsort Inc’s disaster recovery software. Although I have not used this before and hope that I never have to, I checked Syncsort’s website nonetheless to see the various data solutions that they offer. Did you know that 90% of companies in the Fortune 100 list are customers of Syncsort? Their products are even used by international companies around the world.

If you have been looking for data or disaster recovery solutions, do check out Syncsort. They will surely have just the right solution for you.

Netbook: To Buy Or Not To Buy

Three of my guy friends bought netbooks over the past few months ranging from RM1200 – RM4000. I had the opportunity to fiddle with them; one Acer Aspire One, one Fujitsu 2010 and one Asus EEE PC. I kind of like netbooks and think that the size would be perfect for me.

Even though I don’t get to travel as much as I would like to right now, I think that this would make a perfect companion even at home. You know, sometimes you just need to turn on the computer to check something, that’s when a netbook would come in handy.

I recently was been offered a pretty good deal. It’s HP and retailing at RM1999 but I was told that if I were to charge my credit card, I would only have to pay about RM150 per month for twelve months, totaling RM1899. This means that I would get to enjoy RM100 rebate.

I am really, really tempted to buy it but seriously, I am trying to spend as little as possible seeing how awful the economy is right now. Well, I don’t know. Maybe I will just wait a little bit more. SIGH.

Problems With My Belkin ADSL 2+ Modem with Wireless G Router

I bought this Belkin almost three weeks ago because I wanted their lifetime warranty. Everyone tells me that Belkin is expensive but I do not mind the price as long as I am covered for life. However, since the day I bought it, I have been experiencing frequent disconnection of my broadband internet access.

At first, I thought that there was a problem with the service. I also thought that there was a problem with the cables. I also changed the adapter and finally requested for an exchange but the disconnection keeps happening. I found out that the problem is with this modem because I have a spare Billion modem to test and there was no problem at all.

Now, I am going to get yet another exchange. The shop told me that they would exchange another unit from another brand for me but why should I when I paid for lifetime warranty? I am pretty pissed off, actually, to have to run around to and fro.

I wonder if other people are experiencing the same issues with their Belkin. The shop told me that maybe I am not able to use it in my location. Bull… I don’t believe there’s such thing as an item functioning in one place and not in another. He thinks this is a magnetic product or what?
