Building A WordPress Powered Website

If you have read a couple of my posts last week, you would know that I wanted to build a charity website. I asked a few friends for help because I have very slight knowledge of building a conventional website, despite having one myself.

Well, everyone was reluctant to help, even though it’s a charity, non-profit website. Well, I don’t blame them. Who would want to spend time doing something that wouldn’t turn a profit, right?

However, even though they were not willing to help me with the website, they did advise that I should build a WordPress powered website. Since I am already familiar with WordPress, it should be a whole lot easier for me to build and maintain. According to them, it would be like setting up a blog, which I have done many times over, and it is just a matter of finding a WordPress theme that would suit my needs.

I took up their suggestion and voila, I really did “build” a website in just minutes. LOL I don’t know if you would consider that “cheating” but I was damn happy that I need not have to beg for help, which I would have to do if I were to build a conventional website.

Messed Up iGoogle

A few days ago, my friend told me that she hates the new iGoogle and that her Google homepage is so messy now. I thought that she was just fussy. Well, I just checked the Google message board not too long ago and it looks like she is not alone.

I know how I hate it to be faced with a changed layout without prior notice, like I mentioned in my post about the new Yahoo! Profiles. It looks like Google also was preposterous enough to implement new changes without prior notice and like Yahoo! does not allow users to revert to the old layout while the work out the kinks, unlike eBay.

All the complaints do not mean that people are people are not receptive of change, like Facebook users. They just hate the new layout, plain and simple, even though there were no glitches as far as I could see. Still, if Google had allowed users to opt for the old layout for the time being, I believe that once they have everything sorted out, users could gladly use the new iGoogle, and not threaten to boycott all Google products.

Boy, am I glad that I don’t use iGoogle at all or I would have another problem on my hands building a new Google homepage.

Comparing Online Casino Bonuses

A friend told me that now that economy is poor, many of his friends are trying their luck in online casinos. I don’t know if that’s normal behavior or if that’s even the right approach but I did warn him that before committing time, energy and money in online casinos, he should do as much reading, researching and comparing as he possibly could. It’s only to his own benefit, right?

I could provide him with a list of top online casinos or let him know which are the best online casinos but what I think are good for me may not be good for him because we are always seeking different things. I did, however, tell him to double check the list of USA online casinos to ensure that they accept US players. I am sure he does not want to be on the wrong side of the law!

I also told him that most online casinos offer huge bonuses but some bonuses are larger than others, so he would need to make a comparison too. Luckily thing he does not have to do it himself as websites like All Casino Bonuses has a pretty comprehensive bonus chart that makes it easy for him to compare online casino bonuses at a glance.

Will You Start Afresh With Yahoo! Profiles?

I was very concerned when I learned that Yahoo! quietly wiped out all our Yahoo! Profiles and force us to start a new Profile. I think that they did that in a bid to enter the social networking arena and compete with Facebook.

The thing that angered many of us long time Yahoo! user is that there was no prior notice at all and we were all very surprised to see that every on our profile that many of us painstakingly built years ago, have gone down the drain just like that. if they could wipe out our profiles with just a click on the button, are our email accounts even safe with them?

I have had my Yahoo! account since 1990 or so and I have various IDs in my profile for different purposes. I am very concerned that now Yahoo! has forced us to only use ONE name in our profile as it no longer supports multiple IDs. So what happens to the profiles of all my other IDs? Would I have to set up different Profiles with different Yahoo! Mail accounts?

What about my email account? What about my Yahoo! Messenger? Of course, to solve this problem, I could just delete my whole Yahoo! account but I still have people writing to me in my old Yahoo! email and I have many emails still in my inbox which I do not know how to move out. I am subscribed to some pretty interesting newsletters and that is easy to change to a new email but I also use my Yahoo! Mail to log in to some websites too and that would be pretty difficult to have that changed.

In short, I hate it that Yahoo! has made a mess out of my network of IDs and the uses of Yahoo! that have suited me all these while.

Spammed Big Time

A couple of days ago, I don’t know what happened but spam comments flooded my inbox, so much so that I went to my blogs to see if somehow my Akismet Spam plug-in was somehow deactivated. However, besides the fact that it has a new version that I have yet to update, Akismet was still active.

The thing I noticed is that while some of these spam comments appeared in my list of comments to be moderated, some of them did not even land on my blog, which means that they somehow bypassed my blogs and landed straight to my inbox.

And the weird thing is that even though I received over a hundred annoying spam comments on that particular day, the spam comments came from all my blogs except one. The blog that escaped being flooded by spam comments is hosted by another host. Maybe that’s why?

After a couple of days, spam has stopped flooding my inbox but I still am keeping an eye on my blogs, especially for links to pharmacy or porn sites. Am keeping my fingers crossed!

Up-to-date Information On Precious Metals

If you have been reading my blog, you will know that my friends and I are currently looking for ways to invest some of our spare cash. Since I am stuck to the computer at all hours, I think I am better informed than they are on currency and stock trends.

However, I think that right now, it is safer to invest in precious metals, especially silver. I have been checking the website of Monex Precious Metals for the latest prices and precious metals like gold and silver are currently trending downwards. I am not surprised since the global economy is taking a beating.

In any case, I will keep checking and look for the right time to enter the market. As you know, when prices fall, that would be a good time to enter and hold some bargain priced precious metals.
