Calling Home From The UK

My cousin, Jasmine, has been complaining that it’s becoming increasingly difficult and financially burdensome to call home from the UK. As you probably remember, she works in London and international calls are always expensive if we are not using a callingcard with good rates.

You know how everyone is talking about cutting costs lately so when I came across the website of DIGI Calling Cards, I thought of Jasmine and the savings she would get by using these UK calling cards to call home.

I tried to search for UK phone cards to call Malaysia and I am glad to say that there are quite a few call cards to select from. This means that no matter what your needs are, there will always be the right card for you. DIGI Calling Cards even run offers on some of their cards so there will be additional savings.

Jasmine finds this site very user-friendly. She is not very web savvy you see, but if she could use it without a problem, then anyone could! I’m glad that with all the savings that Jasmine gets now, she would be able to keep in touch more regularly with her family back home in Malaysia. This would give her parents peace of mind!

Have You Been Infected By Koobface?

Koobface is a new strain of worm that has infected a handful of Facebook users via its internal messaging system. Because Facebook and other social networks like MySpace and Friendster only allow registered members to contact each other, worm writers take advantage of the buddy system and trust between friends by spreading worms like Koobface.

With Koobface, an infected user’s computer will automatically send out messages to buddies who will receive a message with a link to a movie. Clicking on the link, the victim will receive a message which says that his computer does not have the latest copy of Adobe Flash.

Victims normally would want to view such a video clip and will naturally update their Adobe Flash software. This is a link to a fake Adobe Flash website that installs another malicious program to the victim’s computer.

And so the worm spreads like this.

Other victims have even gotten their personal information and sensitive financial information stolen this way. These victims probably have their credit card numbers linked to their social profiles.

While we have always been told to be cautious about clicking on links that come in emails even if they were sent by people we know, we now have to be careful with links that come via social messages too!

Where To Buy Designer Costume Jewelry?

My sister posed this question to me a couple of days ago. You see, she would like to buy costume jewelry for her colleagues. The funny thing is that although her works in a store that sells designer costume jewelry and would be able to receive staff price on her purchases, she would not be able to buy the as gifts for her colleagues because the prices are way too steep even with discounts. Besides, her colleagues work there as well and would know how much each piece is!

Coincidentally, I was recommended Holsted Jewelers two months ago. While I have never shopped with them before, I cannot deny that I am captivated by the sparkle of their designer costume jewelry. Also, I am glad to note that their prices are very reasonable, what more with their holiday discounts in conjunction with Christmas which are most welcomed by shoppers during this time of economic distress.

My sister will probably be able to find appropriate gifts of costume jewelry here because of the wide range of designs that match her budget too.

Cheongster

Malay Mail published an article yesterday where they reportedly have been keeping tabs of a local website that goes by the name of Cheongster, I am sure this is not the full name of the website, where the operators of a brothel have gone online so that customers could book girls over the web and then just go there for a quickie. Cheong means “rush” in Cantonese.

Apparently, customers would also get to enjoy discounts sometimes just like online retailers who offer discounts off and on. At this time of writing, the website is said to be “Under Construction” after it has been busted. Outwardly, it looks like a dating website but it is more than that. From what I understand, potential customers surfing the website could sort the girls by nationality. I wonder if they could also sort by age, price or experience.

I think that while it is bad to have websites like these easily available to anyone who surfs the web, even though there may be an 18-SX warning on the landing page, this is not something new. In the United States, there are many legal brothels that also have their own websites. And customers could also book girls, rooms and services online or by telephone.

The internet, after all, is one of the farthest reaching medium, isn’t it?

Sirius Radios

If you know me, you would know that I was a radio junkie. I fell in love with the radio when I was very young and have used many kinds of radios from transistor radios to walkman radios, from travel receivers to desktop transmitters. At one time, I had about five different radios all over my house. Yes, I spent quite a lot on my hobby as well but it took a back seat when I discovered the internet.

Now, I still tune into the radio occasionally and being able to receive shortwave radio stations from foreign cities still fascinates me, even though I could easily log in to their websites via the internet!

When my friend, who shared my hobby, asked me what brand of radio to go for, I had no problem suggesting Sirius. I remember my Starmate Replay radio, a Sirius which offered replay capabilities. That was advance technology back then! After so many years, it’s still working and I can’t say the same for many other brands of electronic products.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that I only had Sirius radios. Like I said, I was a radio enthusiast and I have used radios of many brands and models but Sirius remains one of my favorite brands.

1GB of Crap

Yesterday, I decided to spend a little time to do some computer housekeeping. It has been a long while since I did anything to my computer except to turn it on, use it and turn it off. And most of the time, I don’t even turn it off.

Lately, I felt that it has been a tad too draggy for my liking. I doubled my memory but it did not seem to help. My friend told me that perhaps I need a better graphics card so that the system could handle the multiple windows that I have to open.

It’s not like I don’t want to clean my system but I have been so busy and besides, I hate to lose my cookies and history that make browsing faster.

Anyway, I used the free crap cleaner program and checked my disk space before and after. Wah… it cleaned up 1Gb of crap from my system. LOL After cleaning, I defragmented my hard disk. Hope the performance of my system improves.

Concierge Medicine Service

My friend, Paul, hasn’t been feeling too well lately. He has been like this since his trip to the Philippines a few months ago and until today, he has been in and out of the hospital while his doctors try to pin point the culprit. As you know, running a battery of tests would require time.

Although the company that Paul works for owns a large medical center as well, Paul still has to spend way too many days waiting for his appointment and then long hours at the hospital for tests to be conducted.

I told him about concierge medicine service and thought that perhaps he could somehow talk his company into setting this up at the hospital and then subscribing to it for top executives in the company like himself.
