Groovle is a website that I have known of for a couple of years already. As a matter of fact, I have written about their service numerous times too. What Groovle offers is the ability for Google Search users to customize their page either by picking an image from their selection or upload our own photos and customize a unique Google page. I have always thought that Google is way too plain, although I have to admit that it does load extremely fast!

Google took Groovle, which is owned by a Canadian company, to the Canadian courts and you know what? Google lost the lawsuit because a panel of Canadian judges say that Goovle couldn’t be confused with Google. In fact, it sounds more like “Groovy” which is true.

Well, I am glad that Groovle can continue to use its domain name and it will be business as usual for them. So it looks like I can continue using my Bon Jovi Google search homepage!

I really need to teach my mother to use the search engines instead of asking me to look up information for her. It’s a waste of my time even though I gain extra knowledge from searching for what SHE wants!

One day, she would want to look up a medical term, an imaginary illness that she suffers from. The next, she would want information on Las Vegas CPA. It’s information for her friend, she says.

Actually, I have taught her before but she just didn’t grasp it. Perhaps I am a bad instructor with a low level of patience or maybe she simply has computer phobia or something. Well, it’s kind of understandable since she is not like us who grew up with the computer.

Anyway, I have told her numerous times already that the computer is our friend and teacher. It is able to bring us whatever information we seek but we need to know which piece of information or news is correct and which is not!

A few days ago, Alexa released traffic statistics for the most visited websites in Malaysia and the number one website that is currently visited by Malaysians the most is Facebook.

I am not surprised since I myself spend a considerable amount of time on Facebook and in fact, I perpetually have my browser opened on Facebook playing one game or another from Mafia Wars to Pet Society, which all, admittedly take too much of time to level up!

If I wasn’t playing a game or another, sometimes a few games at the same time, I would be chatting with friends, spamming their walls or replying to the spam on my own wall, which could take the whole day!

I know that I am not the only one who spends virtually the whole time my computer is connected to the internet logged in to my Facebook account doing one thing or another. You would understand if you are addicted to Facebook too! LOL. No wonder it is the most visited website in Malaysia.

I wonder which website will be the top this time next year!

Facebook became the number one visited website in the United States on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, beating Google.com for the first time, according to HitWise. Do take note that only traffic to Google.com, the main website, was taken into account.

I am not surprised, actually, since I myself spent a lot of time on Facebook.com this year, even on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, even though I didn’t have a good feeling about social networking websites when I first registered for an account because I don’t want my friends to get to know my other friends, if you know what I mean.

I guess what pushed traffic to Facebook over the Christmas holidays and I anticipate, the New Year holidays, is all the game applications hosted on Facebook that lured us to log in to our games because of special Christmas goodies or loot. How can we forgo the chance to get our grubby hands on some holiday specials, even if they are just virtual items?

And now for the New Year, games like Mafia Wars, FishVille and FarmVille, just to quote some games by Zynga, have promised us some New Year specials. Tell me, how could we NOT log in even on New Year’s Day?

Yahoo! have posted on their blog that they are considering the future of MyBlogLog, a cross-blog social network that Yahoo! acquired in January, 2007 for US$10 million, and giving it the axe is one of the options.

Over the past couple of years, Yahoo! have already shut down a series of services to trim costs from Yahoo! Briefcase to Yahoo! Photos to Geocities to Yahoo! 360° and really, I wouldn’t be surprised if MyBlogLog gets the same treatment from Yahoo! as well even if they have spent millions to acquire these services in the first place.

With all these Yahoo! services being shut down, I am just glad that I have never been a heavy user of Yahoo, except for Yahoo! Mail and that also only for subscribing to mailing lists that may spam.
