Import Mail and Contacts From Other Accounts To Gmail

A few months ago, Gmail rolled out a very important feature that allows Gmail users to import email and contact information from other accounts to Gmail. Other accounts include Yahoo!, Hotmail and AOL just to name a few major email service providers.

The bad news was that the feature was only available to new Gmail users. Those of us who had been using Gmail since the beginning were not able to enjoy moving our old email baggage that easily.

The good news is that last week, Gmail has made this feature available to all Gmail accounts. Well, they are rolling it out in stages so some users would get it first, some may experience a delay. Check if you can enjoy this feature already from Settings > Accounts & Import.

Even though I already have this for my Gmail account, I would still prefer to move my old email manually. I would then be able to ensure that each and every mail that matters is moved. Not that I don’t trust Gmail but I like to be safe.

Effectiveness of Acai Berry

If you are an email user (aren’t we all?), then you would most probably be bombarded with unsolicited email proclaiming the effectiveness of Acai Berry, from Acai Berry Energy Supplement to Acai berry weight loss pills.

I have no interest in Acai Berry weight loss pills yet but I definitely would love information on the effectiveness of Acai Berry energy supplements. So far, I have not been tempted to visit any of the websites promoted by the spam mail that hit my inbox but if someone would tell me that Acai Berry is an effective energy booster, I certainly would love to give it a try.

I know I should do my own research on Acai Berry by trial and error but I am just too lazy and do not have the patience.

Free Google Page Rank Crawler Tool

As a Wordsfinder API user, I received the heads up from them regarding their new free service called Orchid Box. Orchid Box is a free Google Page Rank crawler that provides us with information on more than just the Google Page Rank of our website or blog.

Orchid Box does the following:

Check up to 60 pages’ Page Rank

  • Scan your site for broken links
    Check internal and external links
Monitor loading times and page sizes
  • and more.

I have to say that even though I am no longer interested to check the Google Page Rank of any of my websites or blogs now since Google tanked them, even by association, I find Orchid Box more relevant to me that other Google Page Rank checking tool since Orchid Box helps to diagnose SEO problems of a site, if any, since it replicates Google bots and the way they navigate a site.

Win a Domain or Threadless Tee From NameCheap

If you are a NameCheap customer like I am, and use Twitter like I do, here is good news for you. NameCheap is giving us a chance to win free domain names and Threadless tees from today until Aug 28, 2009.

All you need to do is just send out a tweet with the following sentence: “hey @namecheap, you should play this band at your #hostingparty (URL)” replacing the URL with the web address of your favorite music. It could be on MySpace, YouTube or the website of an artist.

This party is to celebrate the second anniversary of NameCheap’s very successful NameCheap Hosting where they now have more than 10,000 happy customers. What they are looking for is a music mixtape with music suggested by their customers.

Every day for three days, NameCheap is giving away two Threadless tees and four domain names. Of course, these domain names are for the first year only. Are these prizes good enough for you? Unfortunately, NameCheap did not mention if this contest is open worldwide. I know they could give away free domain names to winners around the world but I am not sure about the Threadless tees.

The Web Is Our Best Friend

I am so envious of my friends whose parents have take to the web like ducks to water. My parents, on the other hand, are not comfortable using the computer and internet and I have to guide them over and over again. I don’t have the time nor patience. I have to admit that I am not teacher material, which unfortunately, makes them even more afraid of the computer. SIGH!

My father is a little better than my mother so right now I am teaching him to consult the web for any information that he wants. I told him that the web is his best friend and he should use the search engines should he require information on whatever topics. of course, we should sieve the information ourselves, especially when it comes to alternative news.

Using the search engine, he could look for information like New Jersey or Las Vegas Accounting Firm, for example, even if he has never been to these two cities before or has any contacts there who could assist in providing such information.

    Facebook Too Sticky

A little while back, I wrote about reading a survey that says that Facebook is the stickiest website, beating even Google.

I think after a few months of doing nothing but play games on Facebook, I could attest to that! That’s right. These past few months, i have been rather addicted to playing games on Facebook like pet society, restaurant city, mafia wars, sorority life and street racing.

This means that I practically am logged into my Facebook account the whole day, night and even in the wee hours of the morning. In fact, I am logged in the whole time my computer is connected to the internet.

In fact, if I wanted any work to get done at all, I would have to close my browser so that Facebook and all the other games on Facebok are closed as well. Thinking about this I only play those games on Facebook and no where else. I guess if Facebook server is down for a little while I would in fact be most happy without the temptation to log in and play and waste good time and end up without doing actual work and be productive.

    Web Hosting Comparison

I just received a friendly web hosting service renewal reminder from my web host. It’s yet another year. My, how time flies! According to my web host, there is no change in the hosting fee but I am still going to check up other web hosts and see if they could offer me a similar package at a more competitive price since I am not making much money from my blogs and websites that are hosted on that account.

If you are a blogger or web master, I am sure making web hosting comparison is like an annual affair. I do this more frequently because I have multiple hosting accounts and they expire at different times of the year.

However, if the differences in new packages and prices are not too wide, I do not bother to switch web hosts. I am not a technical person and really do not want to trouble my new host with migrating my sites but mainly, what I do not want is any downtime for my site and migrating hosts would mean a downtime of one to two days. That’s why when I plan to set up more websites on a new hosting account, I would rather start on the right hosting package.
