Drag & Drop Attachments To Gmail

Gmail, in a blog post, unveiled an awesome feature that allows us to drag and drop our attachments to a email compose box without having to click on the browse button and opening the file upload dialogue box. I think it’s very convenient and time saving because it allows us to drag multiple files into the file attachment area without doing it one by one, manually.

At the moment, Gmail has said that this feature is only supported by Firefox 3.6 and Chrome browsers but even though I am using Firefox 3.6, I don’t see this feature on my account but it is available in another Gmail account that I am managing.

What I am guessing is that this feature is only rolled out to some Gmail accounts while some others will have to wait a little while. I could be wrong, though. Are you seeing this yet?

Comparing Cosmetology Schools

Jason, my friend, told me that his wife would like to upgrade herself with new beauty skills by taking up a cosmetology course. His wife is currently a beautician who operates from home but because she graduated from a beauty school over ten years ago, she would like to refresh herself on the latest trends.

I told them that the only leading cosmetology school that I know of is the Cosmetology school in Arkansas and I have heard good things about them but of course, they should always do their own research first to see which one is able to offer her what she is after and also find one that is conveniently located. In addition, they should look for one that suits their budget!

AOL: Sell Or Kill Bebo

A few days ago, AOL announced that they are going to let go of Bebo, a social network site that was once the most popular among British teens and was acquired by AOL two years ago for US$850 million.

According to an internal memo, AOL said that they are no longer able to fund the social network site and compete with other social websites like Twitter and Facebook. Social networking business is highly competitive and social sites need to continue to innovate, to stay fresh to keep users. Facebook and Twitter may be the most popular social network sites right now but their hold could be broken by a hot newcomer too.

Although AOL is looking for a serious investor for Bebo, they are not discounting shutting down the website altogether and declaring Bebo a “loss” to the company, hence availing of certain tax incentives.

Awesome Web Hosting Deal

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Nexx Inc. All opinions are 100% mine.

Frankly, with my sites, I am quite reluctant to move to a new host and server because of all the work involved so no matter how attractive a deal is, I have to give it a pass. However, I still make it a point to check out the latest web hosting deals because as a webmistress managing multiple websites, I am always asked questions related to web hosting by friends who fancy owning a website too.

I came across this awesome web hosting package that is only US$10 for one year of Unlimited Web Hosting that comes with a free .com domain name of choice.

Besides unlimited diskspace, bandwidth and email, which is all important if you are running a large or traffic heavy website, a subscriber to this new web hosting package will also receive $50 credit each for Google AdWords and Facebook Ads. These are essential for bringing your new website to the masses.

In addition, even though you are only paying US$10 for one year, you will still be provided with 24/7 Customer Support so even if you are a total newbie when it comes to installing a website or blog, you can utilize the one-click WordPress and blog installation features and request for techincal support to help you out.

From my experience, only paying US$10 for such a good web hosting package is very rare but do be informed that after one year, you will be charged regular rates. From what I see, even so, it is still inexpensive!

Google Search Now Takes Site Loading Speed Into Consideration

Google announced in a blog post that search rankings will take the speed a site loads into account seeing that web users’ attention span is getting shorter and shorter.

With the speed of broadband, which most of us urban web users are connected to, you wouldn’t think that a mere few seconds wouldn’t make much of a difference, unless the web server is down or is lagging too much. But Google thinks otherwise. Apparently, this has been in action for a couple of weeks already.

Yet, when I make searches on Google, which is my default search engine, I still come across web pages on the top ten search results to be unable to load and that is pretty frustrating. I mean, most of us don’t expect that to happen to large websites that are able to rank that high on the search results, right?

Anyway, seeing how people are getting shorter and shorter attention spans, it is wise not to write longish blog posts. Who would read till the end?

Yahoo! Travel Magazine Lists Top Ten Travel Destinations

The German language of Yahoo! Travel Magazine has listed the top ten travel destinations and Malaysia is one of the countries being listed alongside seriously affordable countries like Thailand, India and Sri Lanka in Asia. Langkawi received special mention in the article thanks to its sandy beaches, palm trees and coral reefs. Other countries that make up the top ten list are Mexico, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Egypt and Hungary.

Although the Ringgit has been strengthening lately, the Euro is still many times stronger than it. While we know that most holidaymakers look for a beautiful country that they would enjoy traveling in and at the same time as affordable as possible so as to stretch their holiday budget to the max, it is surprising that the Government has been urging hotels to raise their room rates because they are “too cheap”!

If these hotels were to heed this advice, I don’t think holidaymakers will find Malaysia as affordable as it used to be anymore!

Alternatives To Google Hosting

My friend is new to Google Sites, previously known as Google Pages, and is quite impressed with its features and she said that she is very happy that she could easily create a website from its What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get format.

I believe most of us web savvy people have already played around with Google Sites but have found it, although easy, rather limited. Sure, a website goes up in less than five minutes but if you are looking for a professional online image, google hosting would not be able to provide that. Besides, you would only be stuck with a sub-domain.

For people who are serious in setting up an independent, feature-rich website, whether personal or commercial in nature, I always suggest buying a web hosting package that usually comes with a free domain name. Most of these packages are very economical now unlike a few years ago, and mostly provide unlimited bandwidth and disk space, which means you can create as many web pages as you like and drive as much traffic to your website as possible without fear of crashing the server.

One of the most asked questions is which web host to go with. I say it’s not a problem going with any top ten web host.
