Gmail, which now comes with a call feature, has added on call recording to the call feature, quietly. Users have started to notice this and have been using it but apparently, it can only record incoming calls for a limited time, though both parties will be informed of the activation that the call is being recorded.

While this is a great feature, and users of Google Voice can now have a transcript of the “phone call”, it is unfortunate that it’s only able to record a short time. How good it would be if incoming calls could be recorded in full for the duration of the call and saved in our Gmail account.

Anyway, since there is no official announcement yet, I think this is still in Beta and a better feature will be rolled out to all Gmail accounts at a later date.

An employee of the Royal Bank of Scotland has been fired because of her Facebook status where she chatted about her losing her job as the bank will be running a exercise where 3500 jobs will be cut.

The employee, Katie Furlong, has calculated that she would be receiving approximately £6,000 in redundancy payout by the time she leaves in 2012 when the centre where she works closes, but now it looks like she would not be getting even one penny. She is bringing this to the courts, of course, but her employers are saying that she has breached the secrecy agreement.

Katie maintains that she was just chatting with friends about it but she should know that Facebook is never a private place. She should know never to talk bad about her employer, no matter how she hates working there, until she no longer draws a salary from them!

My friend told me that he had a shock when he went to renew his driving license only to find out that he has a few outstanding traffic tickets. He wondered why he was not told about it. The problem is that now he has to settle them all before the department would renew it for him! And it is so expensive!

If my friend lives in Los Angeles, he could easily take up a defensive driving course at a Los Angeles Traffic School to reverse his traffic tickets. Yes, that’s possible and definitely worth it as he wouldn’t have to pay hefty traffic fines, then!

Moreover, it is so easy to sit for a defensive driving course and it could all be done online at his own convenience. It looks like the controversy that Google Street View faced in accidentally collecting Wi-Fi data of users in the UK is finally resolved. The company will delete the data, should have done so immediately after they discovered this breach, but was not allowed to so that the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) could carry out their investigations. In a few other countries, Google Street View is still being investigated.

Besides the promise to delete such data payload, Google has also signed a commitment to improve data handling, but mind you, this is only in the United Kingdom. I think that whether by accident or not, this should be standard procedure in all other countries affected by Google Street View. No need for any further investigations to be carried out.
