Google TV Contest

This is so unfair! Google is running a contest where they are giving away Google TV as prizes, up to one hundred of 46” Sony Internet TV with Google TV and it is only available to people in the United States, who are 18 years old and above and a registered user of YouTube.

This contest started on 13th Dec, 2010 and will end on 22nd December 2010. To participate, one would have to submit a video to YouTube (latest by 22nd Dec, 2010) and the video will have to be about you telling why you think Google TV is cool. Only one video is allowed per user.

Video has to be one minute in length maximum and in English. Otherwise, it will be disqualified. Winning videos will be determined by a panel of judges. And decision is final. BOO!

Unlimited Hosting

My webhost has been writing to me, pushing me to upgrade my hosting package with them. I have been with them for more than three years now and for the past three months, have exceeded my bandwidth allocation. Back, then, I didn’t know that I got a bad deal or maybe web hosting was just so expensive. At the price I am paying, I would be getting twice of everything today but I am stuck with an older package.

My webhost says that if I were to pay double what I am paying, I would be getting a larger hosting account. However, I failed to see why I should pay so much and still get a “small account”. If I were to pay an extra $100 a year, I would be getting a limited account and that’s definitely worth considering since I run so many websites, blogs and eCommerce stores. Having an unlimited hosting account means that I could just dump everything in one account.

As you can see, I have been comparing unlimited hosting packages and a friend recommended Host Nine. I have not heard of them before but they really do have a pretty good deal going on, where one could save 15% on an unlimited package. This coupon is valid until the end of the year only.

Merge Multiple Gmail Accounts With Gmail Delegation

Surely I am not the only person with multiple Gmail accounts and had thus far found it quite troublesome to manage a few accounts at the same time on a daily basis. Well, it would be different if I could log in to different accounts on the same browser but I could not.

Well, all these change with the roll-out of something called Gmail Delegation which allows us to merge our Gmail accounts. I haven’t done so yet because I couldn’t spare the time waiting for them to merge since all my accounts are large so it would take quite long, up to 30 minutes, from what I read.

But I really like Delegation and what it does by merging our Gmail accounts. It means that we no longer have to log in and log out of our various Gmail accounts. I think I want to read more about this feature first before getting my Gmail accounts merged.

New Facebook Profile Redesign Focuses On Ads

Facebook began rolling out their new redesigned profile page since Sunday and expect it to be available to everyone by early January next year.

Just like after all its previous updates, Facebook users have started to complain as soon as they see these new changes on their profile, and exposing some of their information that they did not authorize to be shown publicly.

Facebook has undergone multiple changes since I registered with them and I have to say that each time, I have to dig its deeper settings pages to make sure that everything is in place. However, the rule of the thumb is to never put anything in a public domain even though the settings make you believe that the said information is only shared among selected people.

With the new profile design, Facebook now gives prominence to photos and this is a step towards greater monetization of the site with its more than 500 million registered accounts, a mark that was achieved in July, 2010.

Buying Gold Coins Online

I met a couple of friends the other day and somehow, our conversation turned to gold investment. One of them asked me if I know how to buy gold coins online. Well, I have no experience but I have read a lot about it and even have on standby the contact information of a licensed dealer in precious metal, so that I could quickly enter the market when there is a new opportunity.

I told my friend the websites where she should go and read about investing in gold. It is compulsory to invest time into it first before investing money. Even though one may have access to a good dealer, the decision to buy or sell still lies with the investor, right?

Bandwidth Theft

I read my friend’s blog almost every day and at the end of last month, was quite surprised that he has exceeded his bandwidth. I sent him a text message to let him know about it and he was shocked because he has a pretty huge bandwidth quota on his package.

After checking, he found out that a few of his images have been hotlinked and this has caused his server to overload. That’s why even though his traffic has remained constant, his bandwidth has been used up. Those of us who host our own websites and blogs always face this issue.

My friend is currently trying lots of ways to prevent his images from being hotlinked but would like to allow some domains to hotlink those images, domain that he owns as well. I think this is called “selective hotlinking”. However, he hasn’t been successful despite adding codes to his .htaccess file and even using a short cut way through a WordPress plug-in.

HHmm I guess I will wait for his solution and then apply it on my own site since I have been bogged with bandwidth quota limit for the past two months.

PayPal Hit By DDoS Attacks

Two days ago, PayPal permanently restricted access of WikiLeaks PayPal account because it was found to have violated PayPal’s Terms of use. Today, I read that the website has been attacked by distributed denial of service (DDoS).

I have been reading up on these cyber attacks on PayPal and apparently, these were done by WikiLeaks supporters, who are also calling for everyone to close their PayPal account because of the company’s actions towards WikiLeaks. The cyber attacks today took PayPal blog offline for a few hours.

i logged in to PayPal today for a transaction and found that it was business as usual. Until now, I have no idea if these anonymous supporters of WikiLeaks touched PayPal itself, or only just the blog but these attackers already said that they are letting the PayPal blog go because it is no longer viable to attack it.
