Motorola Mobility Slapped With Xoom Trademark Lawsuit

I’ve been following Motorola Mobility’s Xoom tablet introduction and launch and I would say it had at least been three months, if not more. Hence, I was a little puzzled that just as Motorola launches Xoom it has been slapped with a trademark lawsuit by an internet payment company, Xoom, for breaching its trademark.

Now, those of us who are online, especially those who follow technology news, would surely have heard of Motorola’s Xoom already. It even won an award at a recent conference, didn’t it? So I don’t really understand why this trademark holder only comes into the scene now when Xoom is launched and all the tablets are ready to be shipped…

This makes me think that the trademark holder doesn’t really care about its name being used but just wanted to be bought out. This makes me wonder how much Motorola is willing to pay to continue to be able to use Xoom. What do you think?

Tablet War Intensifies

I am eagerly waiting as more tablets are expected to be launched later this year as show at recent computer and mobile devices conferences.

Although I don’t really need a tablet at the moment, it’s something that’s good to have on hand, obviously. However, at the rate that tablets are being introduced, it really is not easy to decide which one to buy. I am all for advancement in technology but it’s just as difficult to keep up price-wise.

The latest Motorola Xoom is expected to be priced at US$799 and that is a pretty steep price by American device standards. While Malaysians have no problems paying US$500 for smart phones, Americans think that US$100 for a smart phone is “expensive”.

Would there be any takers for the US$799 Motorola Xoom? Here in Malaysia, it’s like the price of an iPad though iPad is not “old” while Xoom will carry the “latest” technology and specifications.

Event Blogger Looks For Horse Insurance Companies

I recently set up a new blog where I cover events and I had the opportunity to visit a horse show. It’s kind of weird that even though I live in a city that has one of the largest turf clubs in the country, I never had the opportunity to do so. I love horses but I just never was able to squeeze in the time.

Because of my new events blog, though, I made it a point to go and boy, was I glad. I took many photos at the event. This is only one of them! Horses are so elegant. They can be a little scary, though, because of their size, and I made sure not to stand behind them!

My mother, who knows that I have a soft spot for animals, told me not to even entertain the thought of keeping a horse. She said that having one horse is akin to having to juggle three wives! That certainly thwarted my thoughts! I was on the verge of looking for horse insurance companies already! Hehehehe

I was reading this website http://www.horse-insurance.co.uk and like the idea of buying horse insurance that tailors to the specific needs of the horse and budget of the owner. Not all horse insurance companies offer this flexibility.

Oh well, I think I better forget about keeping horses. I certainly don’t have the budget!

iPhone 4 Wins Best Mobile Device At Mobile World Congress 2011

iPhone 4 has won the Best Mobile Device award at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011 happening in Barcelona, Spain as I am writing this. Apple does not have a presence at the Congress this year. Even though iPhone 4 has won Best Mobile Device, Best Device Manufacturer Of The Year goes to HTC instead.

Rovios’s “Angry Birds” game meanwhile has won the Best Mobile App Award and the Best Mobile App on the Apple Platform. I have played Angry Birds but I don’t see how it could be so addictive. I sure like its colours and liveliness but I don’t like the fact that it’s taking me too many tries to get over each level.

Meanwhile, Best App in BlackBerry App World goes to BlackBerry Messenger, though it’s not stated why. Google Maps, on the other hand, wins Best Android App. Seriously, there are so many good Android apps. But the best? That’s too difficult to pinpoint!

Maritime Lawyer Contact

My brother’s friend came for a visit on the third day of Chinese New Year. He related to us that although he looks fine, he is not able to report to work because of an old injury. This friend works offshore and I remember how many difficulties he was put through to be able to secure the job. Although offshore work is dangerous, it looks like many people love it because of the fat pay check.

We wondered if he was adequately compensated when he said that he would need to speak to an experienced Offshore Injury Lawyer just in case he loses his job unfairly. Well, it’s not like he wants to delay reporting for duty since he loves his job very much.

I recently read about Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris, L.L.P., a maritime law firm with 45 years experience, and I thought that these lawyers would be able to help. Of course, we hope that it wouldn’t come to that but we never know. Some employers could be most unreasonable!

My WordPress Blog Is Broken

The thing that I have dreaded the most since hosting my own blog has happened. While this is not the first time this has happened, this is definitely the first time that I am not able to fix it within one day. At the time of writing, it’s almost two days now and as you can imagined, I am totally stressed out.

This happened when I installed a plugin and when it did not work as it was supposed to, I installed and reinstalled, activated and deactivated and I guess this was when it happened. Now, even with this offending plugin removed, some of my other plugins aren’t functioning like they used to and they are all messing up my blog, so much so that I have to disable them for the time being.

The problem is that this happened to not one but two of my WordPress blogs and while I could fix one blog by just deleting my .htaccess file, the other couldn’t be fixed this way. Believe me, I have tried all possible ways to replicate the solution on the second blog but it’s just not happening and I am at a dead-end.

While I may be able to live with two of the three plugins that no longer work, there is one critical plugin that I must get working and the longer it doesn’t work, the uglier my blog looks to me. Lesson to learn, don’t simply install plugins. There will be no technical support provided most of the time!

Reducing Hosting Costs

Many of my blogger friends, who used to receive decent revenue from their blogs, told me that blogging cannot bring in that kind of income that it could. Some of them even gave up blogging as new interests take up their time. Well, I think that once a blogger always a blogger, even if it doesn’t earn anymore.

I too am looking to reduce my blog hosting costs, actually. My blog host has just told me to make a quick decision because I have delayed upgrading my hosting account. My bandwidth consumption keeps increasing as I gain higher traffic volume but since I am not making money, I have to pay for additional bandwidth out of my own pocket. Obviously, I didn’t tell him that I am in the midst of looking for a cheaper web host!

I got to know of this affordable hosting by imhosted.com and I like the fact that at just US$3.95 per month, we would be getting unlimited webhosting space with unlimited bandwidth. That’s less than US$50 for a year of unlimited hosting, and don’t forget, the first month is free, which makes web hosting even more affordable.

Being non-technical, I am glad to note that customer support is provided 24/7 so even if we are hosting our website for the first time, it shouldn’t be a problem.
