Survey: 90% Companies Have Been Hacked

If it appears that we read way too many reports that companies have been hacked, well, there is a recent survey that shows that 90% of companies in the United States have admitted to have their systems hacked before, at least once in the past twelve months.

The total number of respondents to this survey was 583. My, that is a high number of companies! Out of the 90%, nearly 60% of them said that their system was breached twice in the past year! More importantly, more than 50% of these respondents have little confidence that they are able to stave off security attacks on their system in the coming 12 months.

HHmmm with the many hacks going on in recent months, where major websites have been floored, it’s no longer safe to store anything online, whether important data on a cloud or personal information on a financial website.

WordPress.org Security Breach

WordPress.org suffered a security breach the other day, and three plug-ins AddThis, WPtouch, and W3 Total Cache were found to have backdoor Trojans. People at WordPress.org rolled back these three plug-ins as a temporary measure to shut out the backdoor Trojans after confirming that the developers of these three plug-ins did not make any such changes to their plug-ins.

As a blogger with multiple WordPress blogs, I cannot remember which of my blogs are using any of these plug-ins. I know I used to use AddThis but would have to check every single blog to see which one still uses it. Bleh… My friend told me that i shouldn’t install plugins unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Obviously, I only install what I need and the reason WordPress is so popular is because it’s powerful thanks to all the plug-ins that make it function how we want it to. Duh!

Investing In Gold

I have been thinking how to invest the little capital that I have saved up. I am looking for an investment option with as low risk as possible. A friend suggested I invest in gold bullion, like what he is doing.

The difference is that he had been in the game very early on and has made good money over the years. To start now, I am not sure if I could still catch the boat. As you know, gold price has been rising for at least three years now and still continues to go up!

Anyway, I will have to carefully study the market, though I know that I can’t procrastinate further.

Apple Wins Touchscreen Patent

Oh-oh… after three years, Apple has won the patent to its touchscreen technology, particularity capacitive touchscreen like its pinch to zoom web browsing or image manipulation. This doesn’t augur well for other smartphone manufacturers, who are all mostly using touchscreen for their phones and have also adopted capacitive touch and pinch to zoom navigation.

While Apple may be the patent owner now, do you think the company will stifle competition and bring lawyers upon the other smartphone and tablet makers? Without these functions, touchscreen wouldn’t be as intuitive. Perhaps it’s a good thing to move back to tapping on a good ol’ keypad?

Winklevoss Twins Drop Case Against Facebook

The Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler, have decided top drop the court case against Facebook, which they had wanted to take to Supreme Court, claiming that they have been short-changed in an earlier settlement, which they alleged Facebook left out important financial data that undervalued the true value of the social network.

This court case by the good looking Winklevoss twins, who are also former Olympic rowers, had spurned the movie, The Social Network. Cameron and Tyler, along with another partner, Divya Narendra, had claimed that Facebook “founder” Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea in creating the social network website.

While Divya Narendra was “satisfied” with the payment of US$20 million cash and US$45 million in stocks, the twins were not. Well, now they are.

Buy Gold Now

My brother read that WSJ says Buy Gold and asked if it’s a wise investment. You see, coming from a family that deals in precious metal business, we have followed the price of gold over the past few years and have seen how much the price has risen. It was so in demand, we regret not holding any gold ourselves.

A friend of mine told me that I could now buy gold through United States Gold Bureau easily and it’s safe because this is an established and reliable company. While I would like to do it, I do not have enough personal cash to do so, unfortunately. However, buying gold this way certainly sounds more attractive than buying via a gold account through a bank.

90-Year-Old Finds Husband Online

Wow, it’s amazing to read that a 90-year-old woman has found love online through Match.com. Isn’t it heart-warming? It gives all the singles out there hope. The groom is 82 years old. Truly, age is just a number for this couple. If someone who is 82 or 90 could do it, why can’t we younger people?

Many of my friends have gotten married, or at least found a partner through the internet, not exactly though dating sites but through forums and chat rooms. While many of us are weary of people we meet online, there are still success stories, like this couple. But then again, didn’t we read the many stories of scammers prying on lonely hearts at dating sites?
