Britney Spears held on to the throne for about three months after beating Ashton Kutcher.

Lady Gaga’s number of followers on Twitter surpassed Britney Spear’s 5,667,000 (and counting) by adding 600,000 new followers in the past month alone. Well, I don’t see why Lady Gaga is this popular and there is really no special reason why she should be followed. Or even Britney Spears and Ashton Kutcher. Talk about herd mentality.

So, year, Lady Gaga is undeniably the current most popular social media user and is also currently listed as the most influential person by Times but how long will she be able to hold on to her position? According to Famecount, Justin Bieber the Canadian teenager, is fast coming from behind with 800,000 new Twitter followers every month.

Lady Gaga, the American singer, became the first living person to have the most fans on Facebook. The person who has the most fans is actually Michael Jackson, but then he has passed on slightly more than a year ago.

Who is Lady Gaga? Why does she have that many fans? I have to admit that I don’t care for her music, I don’t care for her, though I have accidentally come across her photos online and on TV entertainment programmes occasionally.

“Hot” as she is, I don’t listen to her music, wouldn’t even know if the song playing on radio is hers, and you wouldn’t find me Googling about her, watching her videos on YouTube or downloading her music. That’s how insignificant she is to me.

Still by wearing outrageous outfits and talking nonsense at interviews, she has managed to capture people’s attention and the fanfare. At this rate she is going, she will probably surpass Michael Jackson’s fan count on Facebook that currently stands at 14 million. The question is how long will it take?
