I received an email early this morning from Register.com informing of their new domain promotion. They are giving away one free domain name for every one purchased. Each person is entitled to up to five domain names purchased, and get five free domain names in the process.
I think this is a good promotional offer though I will not be taking it up. I have twenty blogs not, with only a handful updated regularly through the Olympic Games as I was too busy watching the Games on TV and compiling Google logo art during the Games that I have neglected my other passion blogs.
I don’t even know what domain names to get and what niche they will be. Perhaps I would start a blog on a “Get Paid To” or “Make Money Online” niche.
Register require us to call them up to claim this offer. I wonder why they want us to do that when calling international is not cheap, unless they provide a toll free number or accept call collect.
Another issue is that if you would like to transfer your domain to another registrar before one year is up, since Register.com is seriously expensive, you will have a difficult time doing so. I understand it’s a security concern that they insist on calling us for verification purposes.
Anyway, if you think that the cost of buying a domain name through Register.com is cheaper than two buying from other companies, then this is a good deal.
