The CheongSam Lover Blog

I was brought to the attention of a blog called CheongSam Lover where a Kelantanese guy publishes spy shots of people in Kelantan, mostly in Kota Bahru, whom he deems are dressed scantily or sexily or in attire not conservative enough to his standards.

From the posts that I scanned though, most of these photos apparently were taken with his mobile phone. This is one case of misuse of mobile camera. Also, most of his subjects are Kelantanese people of other races, hence they should not be subjected to the conservative dressing of Muslims.

The most disturbing thing about the blog is that, even though he blurs the faces of his subjects so that they could not be easily identified, he exposes their workplaces, like the shopping complexes that they work in, the name of their store or stall number.

Under the guise of a moral police, he is actually putting these people, mostly young girls, in a dangerous situation but I wonder if he realizes that. His blog should be banned. What do you think?

Serious Threat In Click-Jacking

It used to be as long as we are careful with opening email messages from unidentified people and not clicking on links that come in email even though we know the sender; as long as we have security patches in place for our original copy of the operating system and a self-updating anti-virus software installed, we would be safe using the web.

However, my friend already told me, logically, that they only way we are safe from threats on the web is if we are not connected to the internet! Of course but if one is not on the web, there’s not much work that one could get done, right? At least, that is how it is for me.

A new threat known as click-jacking has been unveiled at the Hack-in-the-Box security conference (HITBSecConf) 2008 last week. The dynamics of it are not disclosed, obviously but apparently, as long as you are using a browser to access the web, you will be at risk unless security patches are up-to-date. That’s why it is so important to update your browser, especially if you are using one of the popular ones.

SMS Messaging Comes To Gmail

I read that Google Gmail has launched a new app in their long list of apps which you can find in Google Labs. Apparently, this is a computer – mobile device – computer short messaging system and it will be rolled out in stages. I just checked my list of apps but there’s no SMS messaging there yet so it’s too bad that I am unable to check it out.

The good thing is that each Gmail account will have a unique identification so that the recipient of the short message on his or her mobile device could reply to the message at a later time and it will reach your Gmail box without a problem. Well, let’s hope that the message WILL come; unlike the email that I received that was sent to me in error.

I am wondering, though, if this service is only available in the United States or if it’s open internationally. And if it is, what are the charges? This is a great concept, though. Free SMS from our desktop to mobile devices is still just as popular as ever.

Your Gmail ID is Now OpenID

Google just announced that they have joined the OpenID bandwagon, which means that with your Gmail ID, you could now login to many third party websites with your existing Gmail ID without having to sign up with a new ID, just like what you are already doing with your Yahoo! ID and soon, your Windows Live ID.

However, having said so, Google will still not open their suite of websites to allow OpenID solution and it is still not possible for all these sites to log into each other’s websites and access the various features with the OpenID.

So far, the only benefit of joining OpenID is the elimination of having multiple usernames and accounts with all these websites but basically, the only things they share is login information, that’s all. It will be interesting to see how OpenID transforms and develops as we progress in information technology.

It’s Really That Easy To Build A WordPress-Driven Website

A little while back, I was wondering on the best way to build a website. I promised to set up one for an organization but I know my own limits. I do have a personal website but unfortunately, it’s only one page, because I keep messing up my code even though I was only copying them for the other pages so I didn’t do anything much with the website. I did, however, asked a friend how much he charges to help me build a few more pages and he quoted me a price that I thought was too exorbitant and not worth the money.

So when I talked to a few people for suggestions, they told me to build a WordPress-powered website. It’s just a matter of finding the right kind of template and doing away with stuff like Comments and Archives.

Once I found a template and bought a domain name, setting it up was easy, just like installing a WordPress blog, like I have done numerous times before.

I am glad that I was told that I would be better able to handle my web content using WordPress engine. Now I think that I am going to revamp my personal website, install WordPress and customize a theme to make it look like a website instead of blog-like. Yahoo!

Wiki Referrals

As you know, I am always on the lookout for ways to make money online. It’s a great way to supplement my income. Even so, I am only interested in making money online with the least work involved so you can be sure that I was so happy when told of Wikirefs, which stands for Wiki Referrals which pays us money for every friend we refer. However, the quantum of payment is not stated.

Anyway, WikiRefs is currently holding a Wikirefs special contest where every 100th person who signs up with Wikirefs will receive US$5 bonus instantly! It’s like a mini jackpot because signing up will require US$1. You still will gain US$4, if you are the lucky one!

Minimum payment threshold is only US$1 and members could opt to be paid by PayPal or AlertPay, two of the most popular online payment systems.

To be frank, for referral systems like these, the best thing is if you are in early so that you won’t even up getting replies from friends that they have already signed up when you attempt to refer them. That could be very disheartening, right? So register with Wikirefs early and start referring friends and family. Luck thing that they are not particular about the rule for one member per IP address so you can get all your family members to register under you!
