Word Verification Required For Sharing Links On Facebook

The other day, I wrote about a worm that affected Facebook users via private messages and link sharing because the nature of social networks and the success of it depend on “trust” among members of a community.

Because these private messages or shared links seem to come from our “friends”, we don’t give it a second thought clicking on them.

Anyway, recently, I have been posting links on my Facebook account via link sharing and private messaging and each time I am required to pass through word verification, or some people call this Captcha.

I hate it because I could never get this right the first, and sometimes second, time and it’s a waste of time to me. However, if Facebook thinks that this is a good deterrent then by all means put it in place. After all, the most important thing is the security of the website and safety of its members.

Credit Counseling & Debt Management

In these lean economic times, i know quite a few people who just declared bankrupt. This is actually not surprising because many of us have been living on credit for a long time now. A little while back, I was suggesting that they receive Credit Counseling but they refused to admit that they are in financial trouble. Admitting to it is tough enough, learning about debt management is double the effort.

Consumer Education Services Inc. or CESI in short, is a non-profit body that tries to reeducate consumers into making wiser personal financial decisions, and provide us with tools that could determine where we stand financially and move from there.

I am not sure how effective these are but the first step into financial freedom starts from within us and once we have made the decision, CESI is there to help us.

Podcasting Your Blog

Recently, checking the email that was sent to RSS subscribers by email, I noticed a small speaker icon in the email. It’s funny that I never noticed that even though I am subscribed to my own blogs. I subscribe to have a back up copy of my posts, OK, not to jack up my subscriber count!

Anyway, I clicked on the icon and it took me to an audio version of my blog. There is an option to download it in mp3 format and if you are so inclined, you could sync it to your iPod, iTouch or iPhone and listen to the “podcast” of the blog on the go.

I downloaded my own audio file out of curiosity and I have to say that the audio was of high quality and would make a great addition to my blog. I would be greater if it’s easier to integrate that audio podcast to every post instead of just available to email subscribers. I don’t know if there is such a plug-in already but so far I couldn’t find anything that would be able to do such a thing.

If you know of any, please let me know!

Ultimate Comfort in Leather Furniture

While helping my neighbor with furnishing his home, I have come across many different designs of furniture, some are practical, some not that comfortable and some absolutely expensive and many more.

When shopping for Leather Padfolios, my neighbor told me that his aim is to buy those that are comfortable, fits the overall theme of his home and most importantly, within budget.

I know that Leather Tree is an online retail store that specializes in leather furniture. I have been told that not only do they pick furniture lines with exceptional quality at unbeatable prices, they also work very hard at fast shipping.

I think that for anyone who has so qualms shopping online for leather furniture, they should give Leather Tree a try.

Upgrade & Unlock iPhone For RM150

I saw a notice outside a shop in Ipoh recently offering upgrading and unlocking services for iPhone, for 2G and 3G. I took down the contact number and called then to see how much they would be charging for unlocking and upgrading my 2G iPhone from the earliest firmware version to the latest. The guy says it would be RM150 and would require 3 – 4 hours!

My, I think if they could guarantee that nothing would go wrong, that my iPhone would not brick, then I would pay to have the upgrade. I am not sure if RM150 is a fair price to pay though, because many of my friends upgraded the iPhone and unlocked it themselves. Also, I think that 3 – 4 hours to meddle with a phone is pretty long and it would be difficult for me to get away from work for that length of time. And I don’t feel secure enough leaving my iPhone to them for any length of time!

I think I would have to travel to the capital city and look up a friend who would be able to do it for me cheaper. Free? I don’t think so. Cheaper, yes, he already said so. It would also be a good opportunity for me to check out the city. It has been a long time since I had a reason to be there!

Even Cheaper Pendrives

When I was at the Ipoh PC Fair last weekend, I noticed that they, once again, push the prices of pen drives a lot lower. The bad thing was that I just purchased a couple of pendrives at different capacities not too long ago, not because i wanted to buy at a more expensive price, but because I was urgently in need to use then.

At the recent PC Fair, with their seriously low prices, I discovered that I paid more than RM15 for one 8GB pendrive and almost RM3 for a 4GB pendrive. It drives me nuts to know that no matter how I shop for my items, they will always be cheaper somewhere and within such a short time period as well!

While people would say that I should shop for my electronics and gadgetry in LowYat, it’s not a practical solution. Coming from Ipoh to purchase them, while not exactly viable, would be a great idea if the savings is huge but what if the item breaks down and warranty has to be claimed? It would be tough and creates unnecessary hassle going to and fro, or even just shipping them to and fro!
