Huawei Media Tab

I recently won a Huawei Media Tab in a contest. It is 7in and runs Android. I have hankered for a tablet for a long time but now that I have it, I don’t think it is that suitable for content output. More like input.

However, I am having a fun time playing around with it and will customise it when I have more time.

This Huawei Media Tab can function as a phone as well, though I read reviews online that some people experienced dropped calls, poor line signal, etc.

Well, I don’t really l\mind as I don’t plan to use it as a phone.

Anyway, Celcom is forcing us to sign up for a broadband plan but I am not going to do that because I already have one. If they force, well, I could even save on my bill!

Google Blocks “Innocence of Muslims” On YouTube In Malaysia

Google has blocked the short video, Innocence of Muslims, on YouTube in Malaysia, acting upon complaints by the Malaysian government.

Whilst we in Malaysia are prevented from viewing the video, and I did not even try searching for copies of the video on other websites, I read that we could still watch the video on YouTube by using proxies. It’s funny that even though I have been using the internet for such a long time, I still don’t know how to use anonymous proxies.

My thinking is that if we are not allowed to watch something, so be it. There must be a reason. Why go on a roundabout way to access it, right?

GoDaddy Hacked

I read yesterday that GoDaddy has been hacked and millions of websites hosted by the company have not been accessible. Someone on Twitter has claimed responsibility. I do not have a website hosted with GoDaddy but this is not something I wish happen to any webmaster.

I can only hope this is a friendly hacker and he did it only to serve as a painful warning to the company that they are not secure enough and that no actual damage has been caused to the millions of accounts and websites under GoDaddy’s administration.

At the same time, I hope other players in the industry would take this warning seriously and beef up the security of their own websites.

Nokia Apologises For Lumia 920 Video Gaffe

Nokia, in a blog post, offered an apology for a gaffe in their recent media conference for the launch of their new flagship Lumia 920 smartphone. The video clip screened was taken to be filmed using the new phone but a reflection in a window revealed that it was shot using another type of camera.

Nokia admitted that they should have put a disclaimer stating this fact. The video was supposed to show the kind of quality using OIS, which is what the Lumia 920 would have, although it was not shot with the phone yet.

Nokia has been struggling to keep their market share but with this gaffe, which angered people, it is yet another blow to the company.

Samsung Most Popular Gadget Brand In eBay India

Samsung has been found to be the most popular gadget brand on eBay India across the gadget categories for the second quarter of the year, with 21% market share. The gadget categories are laptops, cameras, mobile phones and televisions.

This report by eBay India doesn’t come as a surprise, seeing that Samsung IS the current world leader when it comes to mobile devices. They are also a top seller in TV sets, in many parts of the world.

However, this position may shift if Apple has its way. The company is seeking to ban the sale of Samsung devices in the United States now that Samsung has been found to violate Apple’s patents.

Apple’s bull run on the Wall Street to US$664.75 a share has helped the company become the most valuable in history to about US$622 billion, surpassing Microsoft’s 1999 record of $619 billion.

The surge in Apple share price came on rumour that Apple is poised to release new versions of Apple iPhone, iPad and Apple TV devices. How many people are actually waiting for these, even though they already have one? What’s the point of chasing after technology when you know this is a game that you cannot win?

Of course, the clear cut winner is Apple!

Lately, a number of “massively multiplayer” online games (MMOs) are dropping their monthly subscription fees and so players are able to play these games for free. Money is made through selling premium content or virtual items in-game, to boost up the characters that one holds.

This follows the footsteps of the type of games we play on Facebook, where there ARE people who do not mind spending money, real money, in exchange for virtual money.

Do you think this model would be successful? Many games on Facebook that adopted this model from the start haven’t been doing so well. Moreover, those games were not as expensive to develop. What do you think?
