Making Hobbies Profitable

I mentioned in an earlier post today that I was at a wedding dinner a couple pf weeks ago. I met an old friend of mine at the dinner and he told me that he is into numismatics now. Well, I always knew that he was into coin collecting and I thought that was just a hobby for him but it looks like he is going to make it into a career too, or at least something that would earn him a profit.

I think that it’s a great idea to turn our hobbies into money making concerns. Like a friend suggested that since I spend countless of hours online, I might as well set up an ecommerce store, sell something and make some money but I am too lazy.

Perhaps I will just invest into rare coins like this friend of mine!

Disposable Wedding Cameras

I went to a wedding dinner a couple of weeks ago where the bridal couple provided each guest with a disposable camera so that all of us could take candid shots of the wedding. We have the option of keeping the camera or hand the wedding cameras back to the bridal couple so that they could get the photos processed and compile a wedding photo album of candid shots, separate from the official professional wedding shots.

I first knew of this idea from an episode of Oprah Winfrey and I think it’s an absolutely wonderful idea but I still have no chance to use it for my own wedding reception yet. Haha!

I saw from an online store that these wedding cameras can be as cheap as $4 each. That’s wonderful. Can you imagine the cost of equipping each guest with a disposable camera if it was $40 each?? Eeeekkkkk

Pushing For A Password Management Solution

My friend tells me that the reason he drinks and smokes and not able to kick these bad habits because of work stress. He works in the IT department of his company, you see, and is in charged of the administration security of the department and company as a whole.

According to him, there are quite a number of individuals sharing that password and it’s his responsibility to make sure that the password is not misused and changed regularly. He told me that some of the staff could be rather careless and should anything untoward happen, he would be the one to get it from the bosses.

This budget, he is going to push for a password keeper solution that he said would make his job a lot easier. At least, most things would be automated and his job would be to ensure that the appliance works well and comply with certain regulations.

I hope that for his sake, his company would be more forward thinking and not calculate the cost so much.

The Comprehensive Programs At Cliffside Malibu

The other day when I wrote about addiction treatment of a friend, a reader left me a note saying that Cliffside Malibu has a specific program for each person and that it has been proven very effective.

When an addict first enters Cliffside, he or she is evaluated by a physician, clinical therapist and psychiatrist. These three specialists will then create a treatment plan for the addict outlining the areas that need addressing and to evaluate the progress he or she is making throughout the stay at Cliffside.

Also, the difference between Cliffside and other rehabilitation program is that Cliffside offers two programs from primary treatment to extended care, meaning they will help the addict kick his habit and let him stay on till he is totally clean.

Did you know that one of the greatest threats that addicts face once they leave their rehab center is the fact that the majority of them lapse into the same addiction again? It’s like living in a loop with no way out. It’s as though the treatment received in the past year never occurred.

Cliffside Malibu therefore has addressed this concern with the extended care program so that addicts will stay clean and do not face the temptation in falling victim to the same substance abuse over and over again.

Nursing Home Information

I was surfing the internet when I read that more than a million elderly people have no contact with people for months. In Britain alone, more than three hundred thousand people a month live life without the chance to talk to anyone at all.

I think that it is a pity that they do not have the chance to communicate with people, to interact and to share their thoughts. Nursing homes could be the answer in many such cases.

Although the elderly may be healthy, nursing homes are still a good option for them to pass their days because of companionship. This will make them happier and have something to look forward to each day. This in turn helps keep them healthy.

If you know of any elderly people in the United Kingdom who require better care, then check out BetterCaring.com for the necessary information. This is a very resourceful site which also has great tips on better care for senior folks.

IMAP Problem

The other day, I was so happy with Gmail’s new IMAP support which I have been waiting for ages. Well, I did not exactly wait for IMAP but what I wanted was instant automatically retrieval of my Hotmail and Gmail email to my mobile device.

For Hotmail, I use Consilient, which PUSHes my mail with a two-minute interval. Nokia, on the other hand has the minimum time frame of five minutes for IMAP and thirty minutes for POP mail.

Well, just now, an email came in to my Gmail but until now, forty minutes later, I still did not receive that email to my mobile device. OK, frankly, I don’t know if it’s a phone issue, software issue or Gmail issue. Now, I am going to wait and see how long it takes that mail to come in.

Cat also sleep! Zzzzzzz

iPhone Fever

It seems like a lifetime since I have been waiting for my iPhone to arrive. I hope that it will reach my hands by this month because this is a very special month. Today, I was feeling a little testy after waiting such a long time that I went to Flickr to look at photos of OTHER PEOPLE’S iPhone. Urghhh!!!

I actually wanted to view photos taken with the iPhone and not photos OF the iPhone but I could not find any. I’m not happy with the image quality of my Nokia E61i but then people tell me not to expect too much from a camera phone. They said that if I want a camera, go get a camera! Let me test out the iPhone’s camera first!!!

When I was browsing through Flickr, I came across this iPhone desktop wallpaper which was shared by a member. I have forgotten who but I grabbed it. See, iPhone Fever here :(
