Information On Kava Kava

Quite a number of people who would like to have more information on kava kava would come to my blog due to my past articles. Actually, I have yet to try it out myself but have read various articles on the website of Kona Kava Farm after hearing glowing reviews from friends.

Kava kava seems to be an organic remedy to a host of ailments because it has medicinal properties. Did you know that our neighbor, Thailand, has just the right climate for the plantation of kava, which is more commonly known as Kratom or its scientific name, mitragyna speciosa.

My friends told me there are many ways to consume kava, and true enough, I found some pretty interesting beverage recipes for it on the website of Kona Kava Farm. I definitely would like to try them out when I get my hands on a bag of kava kava!

PC Fair (I) 2009

In the blink of an eye, PC Fair has come and gone. Did you know that the PC Fair in Kuala Lumpur just ended this past weekend, but we in Ipoh already attended PC Fair last weekend? It is unfortunate that even though I waited for PC Fair to arrive for ages, when it came, I was not able to make it until the last minute, and by then it was too late for me to shop, but just look around since I did not have time to compare prices at all!

My friend told me that I should have made a trip to KL for PC Fair. He must be crazy. I understand that we had to pay to enter the hall and the entrance and the exit doors were miles apart. I was told that even if there was a door, if there was no exit sign, we were not allowed to use it because the organizers wanted to do a head count to see how many people attended the event.

It was basically the same here in Ipoh except that we did not have to buy a ticket to visit the Fair. And there was only one “PC Fair girl” as far as I could see. Also, there were exit signs on both the entrance and exit doors. I don’t think this made any difference to Ipoh folks. Whether there were EXIT SIGNS on the doors or not, we would just come in and go out as we like. LOL

Short CNET Asia Survey

I received an invitation from CNET Asia yesterday to participate in their short survey regarding mobile phones and our usage of it. There is an iPhone 3G to be won. So I participated and the survey questions included stuff like if we read our email on our mobile phone, if we click on links in our email, what is our mobile phone brand and model.

I have a problem with the survey because we are only allowed to choose one option for most of the questions. For example, for the question that asked which mobile phone I am using, I actually wanted to select iPhone and Nokia but since we could only select one answer, I had to do just that. Don’t they know that most of us have two lines, at least here in Malaysia, but not all of us use dual SIM mobile devices?

And then I remember there was a question which wanted to know which email client we are using on our desktop. Again, I use both Outlook Express and Gmail on my Windows XP desktop and both Windows Live Mail and Gmail on my Windows Vista laptop. Again, we are only allowed to choose only one answer. Sigh, they should know that those of us who are chronic web users, and I believe that people who bother to register with CNET ARE chronic web users, would use multiple email clients concurrently.

Rare Coin News

My mother told me that she has been collecting rare coins for so long now but the funny thing is that she doesn’t know too much about that. She does borrow books on rare coins from the library but one could only read that many books.

I told her that with the internet, she could not read up on rare coin news and keep herself updated on anything related to rare coins easily.

My mother used to be afraid to meddle with the computer because she is afraid of messing it up or deleting important files. However, now that she could learn more about her hobby online and keeping in contact with people who share the same interest as her, she has lost her fear, to my delight. I should have introduced this to her earlier!

Citizen Journalism

A friend just graduated from a course in Citizen Journalism so I consulted a friend if I should take up the course too, to bring my blogging to a higher level. This course is not available where I live so I would have to travel if I want to take it up.

My friend, a professional blogger, says I don’t need to as what I am doing is already citizen journalism. Sure, I would not have a certificate to show for it but I am already taking videos and photographs of public interest issues and events in city and posting them on my niche blog. Besides, I am also building my YouTube profile.

What I need to do now, advised my friend, is just to polish my photo taking and video editing. I would have to write better too. Well, isn’t this why I just need to take up this course? Too bad it’s not available here!

Online University

My uncle met me over Qing Bing weekend and asked if I am ready to start studying for online university degree. You see, he runs a company that co-ordinates classes for working adults and I could study through him for free.

Frankly, even if I could find time to return to books, I would not want to go to him. It would make me feel like I owe him something, a feeling that I am not used to. I want to be independent and gain my tertiary education through my own hard work too.

Luckily there are quite a few accredited online universities that offer courses that we could study over the internet at our own convenience, particularly tailored for working adults, and just the kind of study lifestyle that I need.

Printer Sharing

You know, I really am absolutely not technical minded. I have been trying to share my printer for days now and failed. I have given up!

My printer, Epson CX3900, is connected to my desktop computer running Windows XP Pro. I am trying to access the printer from my laptop which is running on Windows Vista Business. Although I do not use the printer much, it would be great if I could print the little documents that I need to print, remotely if I want to.

I read tutorials online that I should open access from my desktop computer. Well, I am stuck RIGHT THERE. I “think” I have already opened it but I couldn’t “see” it from my desktop.

SIGH I think I will have to do it the conventional way by emailing the files to myself from the laptop to access them from my computer or to save the files in my pendrive.

Actually, I still have another desktop computer that runs on Windows XP Pro too, that I would like to print remotely from. I figure this would be easier to network but I think I will give up lest I drive my blood pressure up!
