How Cool is Cuil?

Former Google engineers launched their very own search engine called Cuil, pronounced as “cool”, claiming that it is indexing even more pages than Google, and not tracking the searches and surfing habits of users, unlike Google. Evil!

So how cool is Cuil? While some people are saying that it is not cool because it did not turn up as many search results as Google did, or perhaps not at all, Cuil is backed by Venture Capitalist funding to the tune of US$33 million.

So I guess as with all new start ups, let’s give it some time. As for me, I will continue to use Google Search Engine until Cuil is more established and REALLY have way more indexed pages like they claim. If so, I would just turn to Cuil because I really do not appreciate having my searches tracked and surfing pattern studied and analyzed. Cuil’s search layout may take some getting used to, though!

One Click Weather Forecast

I don’t know if you noticed but the weather seemed to have changed drastically. It used to be hot weather in the beginning of the year but this year, we have had nothing but thunderstorm. It is mid-year now and we used to have the monsoon rain now but it has been sunny for the past couple of days.

I have a weather forecast application on my mobile device but it does not help when it predicts thunderstorm every single day since I installed it a year ago! Can you imagine how inaccurate it is? LOL

This morning, I was told of this Weather Toolbar which is a free toolbar that we could install on our browser and it is said to be spyware free. This is very important!

What this toolbar does is to provide us with the weather forecast of major cities around the world. Whether it is accurate, I can hardly tell right now. LOL Besides this, it is also a search toolbar powered by Google.

If you need an indication of the weather, perhaps this is a good toolbar for you to try. As for myself, I don’t let the weather dictate what I do and when I do it so rain or shine, it does not matter.

Google Dance

So, three months after the last Google PageRank update, Google is dancing again. I tell you, many of my blogger friends who are still eating eggs for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper, are beyond caring whenever PR updates.

I don’t care about my passion blogs too, and I would be surprised if my rank spanked blogs will go above the fat zero this round.

However, I am curious to know which blogs among my friends’ will get their penalization lifted, since according to someone “high and mighty” there will be a handful of older penalties expiring this round.

Well, my blogs have been penalized in the first round itself in October, 2007, so I think they do qualify as one of the oldest penalties. Will MY penalties expire this time, if at all? I would like to know!

Free Drug Reference Guide For Blackberry

The Blackberry is a very popular device here but I am not sure if people are using it to its full potential. If you are one of the lucky people who owns a Blackberry then perhaps you should check out the free drug guide for blackberry from Epocrates.

Although I do not deal with drugs, I still find it interesting that I could have drug information, side effects, drug reaction between two or more drugs, dosage, etc. at my fingertips. If this is in your line of work then all the more you should grab a copy for your Blackberry.

Remember the time you need a little information on a certain drug and you had to rush to your desk to check it up at your computer? Well, technology and Epocrates have made it possible for you have this piece of drug information and more, in your pocket!

FireFox 2.0

The other day, I upgraded my Firefox to the latest version 3 on my desktop computer upon the urging of my friend who ground the latest Firefox to be “fantastic” and working perfectly. I told him to try out the add-ons that I use to see if they worked on the new Firefox. He reported back that they worked great and that I have nothing to worry about.

So I upgraded my Firefox too but after intensive use of the plug ins that I MUST have running each second I am connected to the internet and I am connected each second my computer is turned on, I found that the plug ins do not work as well as my friend has reported that do.

I was a little pissed off when I found out because it caused me error in my work but there was nothing I could do on short notice. However, now that I know about the problem, I decided not to downgrade my FireFox on my desktop. However, neither do I have plans to upgrade my Firefox on my notebook.

Earning From Widget Bucks For Western European Traffic

Months ago, I was complaining that my Widget Bucks widget has gone missing from my blog. At least, accessing my blog from Malaysia, I could not see the widget. Anyway, I later discovered that the supposedly Widget Bucks widget has turned into an eBay affiliate button with I don’t know whose referral ID. So since I was not earning even a little from that, I removed the widgets from all my blogs.

A little while ago, I received an email update from Widget Bucks saying that they are now paying for Western European traffic. HHmm isn’t that strange?

So, here is a list of countries where you will get to earn from your traffic. I don’t know if it is worth it for you but for me, I would rather have a global widget on my blog.

Facebook Files Suit Against German Social Portal StudiVZ

Facebook is taking German social network portal StudiVZ to the courts for being a copycat and is seeking an undisclosed amount of money as damages. It is funny that Facebook itself had been embroiled in a lawsuit with ConnectU which accused Facebook for stealing its idea.

So the gist is that Facebook stole the idea from ConnectU but StudiVZ stole the same idea from Facebook. Get it? Of course, no party has admitted to it. Even if they did, would they admit? No, right?

StudiVZ meanwhile has stated that Facebook is only jealous that they are unable to penetrate the German market while StudiVZ has ten million German members. That’s quite a number there.

I enclosed a screenshot each of Facebook and StudiVZ so that you can compare them and see if StudiVZ has copied Facebook and if Facebook has a case against StudiVZ. What do you think? You be the judge!
