Downadup Worm

Downadup or sometimes known as Confick or Conficker, is said to be the most infectious worm to date.

If you remember, Microsoft issued an alert sometime in October of last year and issued an emergency security patch for Internet Explorer. The patch number is KB958644. If you have this, then you should be save.

However, even if your system has been infected, it may be possible to totally remove it by downloading and installing the free Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT).

What makes Downadup all the more dangerous is that it has a list of passwords which it will try on infected systems to gain access to administrative rights.

One of the major points to look out for if your system has been hijacked is to see if you could log in to various accounts or websites because your password has been changed.

If that is the case, download the malicious software removal utility right now.

Watching Barack Obama’s Inauguration On Facebook

Last night, while my dad was watching Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony on CNN on TV, and I was watching it on the official website http://www.pic2009.org, many of my friends preferred to watch it on Facebook. I am sure all Facebook users would have known that Facebook collaborated with CNN to bring us live coverage on the Facebook website itself.

Since I had to work, I decided not go watch it on Facebook because on the side, we could see Facebook users who are logged in and watching the inauguration and we could chat with each other too. The crowd was massive and pretty distracting. I didn’t have time for that. LOL

It is said that there was a record status update of Facebook users during the inauguration ceremony, using CNN.com’s Live Facebook feed.

Watching Out For Online Deals

My friend, Warren, told me that his biggest expenses come from buying milk powder for his 1.5 year old son. The rest are very well taken care of by his company.

I suggested that he try out the milk powder sold on Allegro Medical, an online store that specializes in home medical products. I know that many people may not be used to shopping for milk powder from the internet but Allegro Medical has very competitive prices for their products and shipping is certainly extremely cheap. It’s currently only 95¢ without minimum shipping, though this promotion will end on 23rd Jan, 2009.

Sometimes, Allegro Medical offers free shipping too. Right now, for duocal powder, they offer free shipping to customers who order a case of four. That’s a very good deal, isn’t it?

Asia Pacific Expects 564 Million 3G Subscribers By 2013

That is according to a study by Frost & Sullivan from an estimated 158.4 million in 2008. Frost & Sullivan estimates that there will be one in three internet users who would be connecting to the internet via dongles and data cards.

However, speaking from experience, I would still want to use fixed broadband when I am in the office and at home and only depend on my 3G data subscription when I am on the move. I know this is the case for myself and many of my friends who are subscribed to both fixed broadband and 3G services.

3G right now is still not as good as it could be. Perhaps things would improve come 2013, and things would deteriorate for fixed broadband service providers. In any case, we could do with some competition as broadband internet seems to have been monopolized by a handful of companies only and if we are unhappy with their service, we could just continue to suffer.

One thing though, we’d probably have something faster than just 3G in 2013. Maybe 5G? LOL

Virtual Private Server Solutions

Many of my friends who are serious make money online bloggers are already subscribed to VPS hosting. They asked me to follow suit but I am not very keen to commit more than ordinary blog and web hosting.

However, I just came across Host Color web hosting company which is offering VPS Advance at only US$49.95 per month, which is way cheaper than what my friends are paying and it’s not like their VPS web hosting absolutely have no downtime either!

Host Color’s VPS Advance allows us to host an unlimited number of domains but what I like is its Virtuozzo Os which allows us to install software with just a mouse click. Of course, if this isn’t sufficient, you could opt for VPS Power at US469.95 per month, that is also powered by Virtuozzo Os.

Host Color promises 99.9% up time. However, if you require any assistance, Host Color offers dedicated toll-free phone, email and live chat support to their clients.

Watch Barack Obama Inauguration Live Online

Last Summer, Microsoft launched its high tech flash player, Silverlight, in time for Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games. We were even allowed to watch some of the Game broadcasts for free after downloading and installing Silverlight.

Today, Microsoft scored another coup, with its live streaming and on demand videos of Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony. Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. I understand that the total cost of this ceremony would be in the tune of US$100 million so do expect this to be totally GRAND.

Although there will be 250,000 free tickets given away to the inauguration, there will still be many people who would want to watch history be created but unable to attend the ceremony. These people will be watching it online, via Silverlight.

Visit this website http://www.pic2009.org for the latest news and updates on the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States on 20th January, 2009 from 8pm to 12 midnight.

China Leads In Internet Usage

As China continues its effort in curbing porn on the web by seeking the co-operation of major search engines, Chinese people now make up the largest number of people accessing the web.

It comes as no surprise as the growth rate has been tremendous over the past few years but when is surprising is that people in the countryside is adopting the internet at a faster rate than those in urban areas.

Also, students make up the largest group of Chinese web surfers, and a large section of them are accessing the internet via mobile phones over 3G internet connection. Heh… that’s why China made mobile devices, which are usually dual-sim and come with TV viewing capability, are so popular.

We will continue to see a growth particularly in the number of Chinese people access the web via mobile devices when all mobile operators offer 3G services by 2011. Even now, the total number of Chinese connected to the internet is already almost the same number as the total population of the United States. Massive, isn’t it?
