Top 10 Webhosts

A friend is complaining that downtime for his website is getting unbearable. It is fine if he doesn’t earn from the site but it is an eCommerce site and when downtime is prolonged, his income is affected because of lower sales. I suggested he look for a new webhost. I know, it seems like webmasters continually look for a better, even cheaper host, but if a webhost doesn’t meet our demands anymore, it is time to migrate.

It has been a long time since I checked out the webhosting market and I have lost touch. However, going through the web hosting comparison chart at findwebhosting.com, I could easily see which ones are currently the “best” in terms of quality, price and customer support service. If you are looking for the top ten web hosting companies, you should check out FindWebhosting.com

As a long time owner of websites, I advised my friend not to just look at the price of the webhosting packages but to look at the overall picture, which also includes specifications and features. And since he is a noob when it comes to hosting, he must subscribe to a package that includes 24/7 technical support. In addition, a webhost that offers “anytime” money back guarantee is good.

Free File Hosting

As an event blogger, I attend many events and functions, especially over the weekend. My photos are of high resolution and I am finding it difficult to send out photos to my friends, when I share with them. At the same time, my hard disk is running out of space again.

A friend told me that I should reduce the size of my photos so that I could email them out without taking so much time but that would mean reducing the quality of my photos as well. Some friends may want to print the photos out, you see. Besides, it’s a lot of time wasted to edit my photos too!

I discovered a Free File Hosting service just last night and tried to upload a few photos. I like the service because it is very straight forward. The maximum file size for unregistered use is 50 megabytes. That’s huge! Better still, for those who would like to register for a free account, the maximum file size is 101 megabytes.

What I like most is that I could tag my photos, which means that as time goes by and I have more photos in my account, I could still easily search for particular photos by just searching for tags.

.XXX Domain Goes Live

The first of the .xxx top level domain has gone live, even as anti-smut groups are against the use of this new suffix, claiming that it will be easier for children to find.

On the other hand, domains that end with .xxx are closely monitored for hidden malicious viruses and Trojans so I personally think it is good that smut online is so easily identifiable.

Whether one is for or against it, porn will be here to stay, and as the saying goes, one man’s meat is another man’s poison. So even if porn was something good, it may not be suitable for everyone, or liked by everyone.

Google Music Coming Soon

Google is working hard on music licensing in order to launch their Google Music, to enable Android users to download music on their phone, something like iTunes but not quite. However, Google Music seemed like they are “stuck” as Sony Music and Warner Music, two giant labels, have thus far not agreed to allow Google to sell recordings from their artists in the download music store.

While Google may think it is important to offer music downloads to users of Android, I wonder why they bother when there’s so much free music on the internet, why pay for it? Even if Google does offer a music download store, it may not be successful, just like how Android apps, on the whole, are not that successful.

Replacement For First Generation iPod Nano

Apple has issued a statement that battery of their first generation iPod Nano runs the risk of exploding. That sounds pretty dangerous! In view of this, they are giving a replacement for all first generation iPod Nano.

The company did not mention of this exercise is valid worldwide or only in the United States. No model was indicated as well or how this is done. However, if you give them a call, I am sure you will be able to get all your questions answered.
