Miley Cyrus to Kids: Avoid Facebook

Miley Cyrus, has made a public statement to children to avoid Facebook after learning about a 13-year-old girl who was kidnapped by a man who used the social networking website to gain access to her information.

While I think that it’s great that Miley Cyrus is so outspoken about the case, if not mistaken, Facebook has an age requirement for registration and kids as young as 13 is definitely not allowed to register.

Parents are to be blamed for allowing their kids free hand on the information super highway. How could one ignore the internet? It’s the best thing that happened on earth, me thinks, but like everything in life, there are always people who would misuse a god thing.

Avoiding something is not the solution. Being educated about it is.

Facebook Safety Page

Facebook has set up a Safety Page on its own social network site to educate people on internet safety. The page will highlight news and initiatives by Facebook on keeping data of users safe online in general and on the social network website in particular.

In a blog post, Joe Sullivan of Facebook mentions that online data security is a shared responsibility and that we should all help each other to stay safe, with the initiatives introduced by Facebook.

I think that if Facebook do not always mess around with our privacy settings without prior notice, or even with notice, they shouldn’t just simply revert our settings to default, wasting our time making changes yet again, then we should be safe! So this Safety Page isn’t even necessary in the first place!

Zynga Aims To Be Google of Gaming

The founder of Zynga, a social gaming company, fresh off another round of funding, has stated that he aims to bring the company to the next level, on par with Google in the games department of the web.

While this is not impossible, many of us who have been playing games on Facebook and other social gaming networks, are getting bored with the “never-ending” games. Zynga, of course, keeps adding new features to the games, new challenges and stuff. Although I still play a handful of Zynga games like Mafia Wars and Treasure Isle on a daily basis, a lot of my friends have stopped and moved on to other games, or even other things outside of the online world.

The reason I like playing some primarily text based games like Mafia Wars is because I like games that don’t take a lifetime to load. However, glitches in the games, if you play on Facebook, you would encounter lots of glitches now and then on these still in Beta games, and that would cause us to lose interest fairly quickly.

How long would it take Zynga to rule the online gaming world? It took Facebook 4.5 years to garner a user base of 100 million while it only took Zynga 2.5 years, though we must remember that both these figures are inflated due to duplicated accounts.

Click Ready Websites

My uncle runs a small online business and he has been telling me that he isn’t getting the kind of traffic volume that he expects from the online marketing blitz that he has commissioned from an online marketing company. I feel that his business has so much potential and it is a pity that he is not making the best use of the power of the internet.

I asked my friend to have a look at the website and the online ad campaigns that my uncle ran. My friend told me that there is room for improvement on the banners and some other things should be taken into consideration to be more effective in the campaigns.

While I would like my friend to help my uncle more, he isn’t able to because he says he is not a professional SEO agency. What knowledge he could impart is all from his own experience in running a successful website.

After reading up on Click Ready Marketing, an Atlanta SEO Agency, I feel that this company would be able to get the kind of online attention that my uncle needs since they specialize in small to medium sized businesses and they not only concentrate on the website design but also content and other off-site activities.

Seven Facebook Trivia

After going though various reports and write outs on the internet upon Facebook’s milestone of hitting 500 million user mark, I was able to tabulate this list of seven Facebook trivia.

1. Facebook has more than half a billion registered users, which translates to 7.3 percent of the world’s population

2. If Facebook were a country, with half a billion people, it would be the third most populous country after China and India

3. Personal information is shared an average of 70 times a month per user

4. Facebook gains eight new users very month, has been so for the past 15 months

5. The fastest growing age group of members is the above 60 years old

6. Pope Benedict shares updates in eight international languages

7. Many people have duplicate accounts for whatever reason, hence the number of registered users isn’t really 500 million.

Saying It With Videos

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of mailVU. All opinions are 100% mine.

People who are in a long distance would surely empathize with me. It’s fine if both parties have super fast internet connection but when one only one of us have time to actually sit in front of the computer or have access to a reliable 3G signal, keeping in touch could be extremely frustrating. Let’s not talk about the cost!

I was actually searching for something that I could surprise my guy with. It’s his birthday in 2 days’ time and with him in the jungle because of work, I don’t expect us to be able to indulge in video calls. Yes, that’s a luxury for us!

I was informed of mailVU’s free video email service at http://mailVU.com this morning and eagerly tried it out. I like the fact that I could record my video, mail it and the recipient could view it at his convenience. That sure beats all the hassle in trying to arrange a time convenient for both parties to be on the internet at the same time.

I could also set the recording to be deleted from mailVU server after X number of days up to a maximum 365 days! If that’s too long for you, why not set it to self-destruct after just one view? Yes, we can do that!

If you visit http://mailVU.com, you can try it out for yourself how easy it is to record a video of yourself. You just need a webcam. Even one that comes with your laptop is good enough. Once the video is recorded, you can email it directly from mailVU; providing your name, email address, the recipient’s name and email address, subject title and add a message if you like.

If you wish, you could send a copy of the message to yourself and set the system to notify you when your message is read. That’s how easy the whole process is!
