Facebook Questions

Facebook rolled out a new feature called Facebook Questions which is similar to Yahoo! Answers. It allows us to post a question not only to our circle of friends but also to the whole Facebook community.

If you don’t have a lot of friends, or if you have a local question but don’t have many friends who live in your area, I am sure you would have found it difficult to get an answer to your question. The thing with Facebook Questions is that you can now post your question to your friends and everyone else and I’m sure someone out there would have an answer to your question.

How many times have you taken a photo of a bird or butterfly or flower and would like to know its species? Just post your photo up. Easy. I have a lot of photos of birds and butterflies that I shot visiting KL Bird Park and Taman Rama-Rama Kuala Lumpur in March this year. I think I am going to try out this feature with these photos.

10 Million Facebook Fans For Starbucks

Starbucks is the only brand name with fans numbering more than 10 million on Facebook, just like Lady Gaga who is the first living person with more than 10 million fans on Facebook. The main rivals of Starbucks in terms of brand name is Coca Cola with approximately 8.3 million fans and counting.

If you are on Facebook, you would know that Starbucks is one of the global brand names that is most actively giving away free coffee vouchers to fans. It’s too bad that many of these promotions are only available to people in the United States.

But then 10 million fans is already huge. The entire population of New York is only 8.2 million! I wonder how many of these fans actually SPEND at Starbucks and not just wait for free vouchers or coupon codes from Starbucks.

Students Give Too Much Credit To Google Search Results

According to a survey among students, these students are giving too much credit to Google search results and would think nothing about clicking on the top search results. You know, from a search engine marketing point of view, the top results don’t mean they are the best.

The funny thing is that these students thought that websites with domains that end with .gov, .edu and .org are more credible than others. Well, .gov and .edu are supposed to but .org could be registered by anyone. Even I have a .org website which I manage for an organization.

When I taught my mother, a senior citizen, to use the computer, and the first thing I taught her was to search the web using Google, and I chose Google because its homepage is bare and not as distracting, I also reminded my mother to not simply click on whatever results that pop up on the front page but to go through the list first before choosing which page to open.

Social Media Campaign Management

As a webmaster and small business owner, I have tried making use of social media to increase the online presence of my internet property. However, it has not been easy for me at all as I know no knowledge at all on how to leverage social media to my advantage. Besides, I had to maintain my website too and run the business. It may be small but still require lots of time.

I came across a Social Media Agency which provides consultation to people like me and the agency will also manage social media campaigns for their clients. Engaging a social media agent will surely take a huge load off my shoulders!

Disney Poised To Purchase Playdom Inc.

I find it strange to read that Disney has plans to take over Playdom, the game developing company that runs a slew of games on Facebook which I also play, though out of the many games I only play Sorority Life and Social City regularly.

I find it a little strange that Disney has targeted Playdom. Granted, they do have many social games but nah, they are not as interesting as other companies that also develop social games that could be played on Facebook, MySpace and other social networking websites.

Disney, which is the world’s largest media company, has recently been paying attention to mobile games and mobile media. If Disney does purchase Playdom Inc, it will follow its recent purchase of Tapulous Inc. If you have an iPhone or iPad and play games on it, I am sure you would have come across one of its games. Yes, Disney is its owner now.

Social Media Marketing Blitz

My uncle told me that he has been looking for a Social Media Agency that could help him bring more exposure and hence traffic which hopefully would convert into sales.

Although my uncle is already 70 years old, I really respect him that he is very adaptable to technology and web trends. He could stop asking me about Facebook and Twitter when he found out that businesses are making use of these sites to promote their online properties.

I hope my uncle will find success in the social media marketing blitz that he is going to run.

Facebook Delete Account Button

Facebook has rolled out a new feature to selected accounts which enables them to delete or deactivate their accounts, for whatever reason. Previously, users would have to search through the FAQ to do so, and it would require two weeks for the account to be deleted.

Now, for the small pool of accounts, but will eventually be available on all accounts of 500 million users and counting, this deactivate or delete account button will be accessible under Account Settings tab.

This is going to be good for people who would like to cancel their account, perhaps they feel that the security has been compromised or something or for people who have grown tired of social networking.

If you use Facebook, do you already have this button available to you? Are you planning to use it at all?
