How Many Edison Chens Are There?

If you remember from months back, I wrote about discovering about Spock.com and how this website allows us to claim all our online profiles and placing them on our Spock.com profile. If you are active in social network portals and have one too many social profile, just like yours truly, I am sure you will appreciate the ability to claim your profiles and email addresses so that people can search for you when they use Spock at http://www.spock.com, a free service.

Once you have claimed your profile, you can upload your photos and add tags that best describe you like physical attributes, geographical location, school or profession.

I know that Spock.com also pulls in profiles of celebrities and stars from Wikipedia so whoever is on Wikipedia will also be on Spock.com with additional information.

If you are a Spocker, you will know that you can actually find any actor singer on Spock.com so this morning, I decided to see how many people are named Edison Chen. You know that the Hong Kong celebrity named Edison Chen is embroiled in a sex scandal right now, don’t you? Heh… I really pity the guys who share the same name.

Let’s see….

Of course, in this widget, there are many results of the REAL Edison Chen celebrity and there are other people who are only named Edison Chen. I think we should add the tag “Playboy” to THE Edison Chen to separate him from the rest of the “normal” guys. What do you think? HAHA!

Protecting Young Internet Users

I was very concerned when I learned that my 12-year old niece has subscribed to an internet broadband package. She lives with her grandmother, my aunt, an elderly lady who knows nothing about computers and internet. Last year, when my niece was given the computer, they did promise not to get connected to the internet until the girl is older.

So now that she is online, I am worried that she will fall prey to people who are older, pretending to be children her age and befriend her. I have read too many such cases. My aunt is also unable to monitor her online activities so I dare not tell her the reason why I thought that she should only get online when she is older.

I expressed my concern to a friend who has children and he told me that I have to install a program on her computer which will block websites with adult content, monitors chat conversations on social networking websites, prevents the transmission of private information over email, chat sessions and web forms.

All these could be handled by one program called Integard. I went to read further on this product on their website at http://www.raceriver.com and I am especially delighted to note that this program, once set up properly, could also send us an email to notify us of inappropriate internet activity. Moreover, I could also set up remote monitoring so that I know exactly what is happening with her limited online hours from my own computer at home or at work.

I think that this is an excellent product for people with young children, and even teenagers. Truly, one can never be too careful what with rampant internet predators prowling cyberspace.

How Much Is This Site Worth?

A couple of days ago, I was surfing around and I stumbled upon an established website for sale. However, I did not bother to check how long it has been registered or whatever, I just know that it currently has a Page Rank of 4, not that grand, but an Alexa score of slightly under ten thousand. I know, that could be manipulated but to go under 10K is not easy. I’d probably have to look at its six-month trend or something.

So this guy, the current owner, plans to either sell his whole website or part of it, meaning, he is looking for a partner. He probably would prefer to have a sleeping partner, so that he could continue to run the show, this time WITH financial backing.

Currently, this site is offering a free service to internet users and you know people, they come when it’s free but when the new owners change the website and use it for something else or start charging users, then they will flock elsewhere.

Hah… so, how much would you be willing to pay for such a website, lock, stock and barrel?

NexGen Travel Distribution

A couple of days ago, a friend asked me if I like planning for a holiday. I sure do! But after browsing through so many travel websites, I thought that it would be more fun if I could run a similar website. A friend of mine owns a tour agency in my hometown and I always thought that it would be great if I could help him plan his tour packages.

Coincidentally, today, I was introduced to a new travel technology provided by NexGen Travel Distribution. This company provides a platform for travel suppliers to offer travels and tours and other travel related content to consumers and for free too.

I have read through the products and services that are being offered by NexGen Travel Distribution and it looks like they are able to offer a full suit of products and services that any good travel supplier would need, including easy Access Travel System, Private Label Booking Engine and NexGen Travel Technology to offer a rich experience to both the supplier and consumer of travel content.

Protecting Our Computers And Networks

Threats to computer security are a major issue for people like me who are on the computer that is connected to the internet for long hours of the day and night. It is especially difficult for people like me who are not very technical with computers and would have to cart it to the repair shop for troubleshooting each time it is crippled by virus or other malwares.

The other day, I read an article which reported that there are seventy different strains of computer virus released on the internet every day and that is a shocking number. The only way to protect our computer network against this threat is to log of the internet and switch off the computer, my friend advised. But there has got to be a better way, right?

Another friend told me that we can protect our systems with good anti-virus programs. Of course, when it comes to protection, it is always better for us in the long run to get the best in the market. This friend also let me in on a norton antivirus download from a Symantec online shop for $39.99. Do you think that this is too expensive? Well, it depends on how you look at it, but for me, $39.99 is the price I would willingly pay for peace of mind!

I Can’t Open My Blog On IE Anymore????

This is so grand and I don’t even know when it happened or how it happened but I can’t open my own f@rking blogs on IE anymore without it popping up an error window saying that access to my web address has been aborted [Operation aborted] and then all I get is “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”. I am so going to lose traffic because of this.

I understand that when I get this problem from some blogs that I visit, it is because of the theme. However, in my case, my blogs have been accessible for such a long time now until just now.

I didn’t even install any new codes or made changes or anything at all and yet
I am getting this error! I am so pissed off. Meanwhile, I can still access my blog through FireFox so I guess I will have to sleep on this for a little while and hope that whatever is throwing this error will straighten itself out by morning.

Never have I wished harder than now that the whole world uses FireFox.

Top Searched Key Phrase On Yahoo!

Last night, I was on Yahoo! and I read that the top searched key phrase was “Super Bowl recipes”. It still is sitting at number one now, by the way. Wow, I never knew that! I just wrote a post on “Super Bowl recipes” like a week ago and I did not notice any particular traffic surge from people searching for this key phrase, especially not from Yahoo!

I have to admit, though, that I have not been checking my traffic statistics as diligently as I used to these past few days simply for the fact that there are too many entries to go through and I don’t have the time for that.

Now, I just look at the numbers and I go like, “Oh, WOW! Traffic!” LOL I know, pathetic but I never denied that I am no traffic whore.

By the way, the number ten key phrase on Yahoo at this point of writing is “soap making”. Why would there be so many people wanting to know how to make soap, of all things? I don’t know. Maybe it is an international school project or something.

It’s kinda funny what people search for on the internet, right?
