Sirius Radios

If you know me, you would know that I was a radio junkie. I fell in love with the radio when I was very young and have used many kinds of radios from transistor radios to walkman radios, from travel receivers to desktop transmitters. At one time, I had about five different radios all over my house. Yes, I spent quite a lot on my hobby as well but it took a back seat when I discovered the internet.

Now, I still tune into the radio occasionally and being able to receive shortwave radio stations from foreign cities still fascinates me, even though I could easily log in to their websites via the internet!

When my friend, who shared my hobby, asked me what brand of radio to go for, I had no problem suggesting Sirius. I remember my Starmate Replay radio, a Sirius which offered replay capabilities. That was advance technology back then! After so many years, it’s still working and I can’t say the same for many other brands of electronic products.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that I only had Sirius radios. Like I said, I was a radio enthusiast and I have used radios of many brands and models but Sirius remains one of my favorite brands.

1GB of Crap

Yesterday, I decided to spend a little time to do some computer housekeeping. It has been a long while since I did anything to my computer except to turn it on, use it and turn it off. And most of the time, I don’t even turn it off.

Lately, I felt that it has been a tad too draggy for my liking. I doubled my memory but it did not seem to help. My friend told me that perhaps I need a better graphics card so that the system could handle the multiple windows that I have to open.

It’s not like I don’t want to clean my system but I have been so busy and besides, I hate to lose my cookies and history that make browsing faster.

Anyway, I used the free crap cleaner program and checked my disk space before and after. Wah… it cleaned up 1Gb of crap from my system. LOL After cleaning, I defragmented my hard disk. Hope the performance of my system improves.

Concierge Medicine Service

My friend, Paul, hasn’t been feeling too well lately. He has been like this since his trip to the Philippines a few months ago and until today, he has been in and out of the hospital while his doctors try to pin point the culprit. As you know, running a battery of tests would require time.

Although the company that Paul works for owns a large medical center as well, Paul still has to spend way too many days waiting for his appointment and then long hours at the hospital for tests to be conducted.

I told him about concierge medicine service and thought that perhaps he could somehow talk his company into setting this up at the hospital and then subscribing to it for top executives in the company like himself.

WordPress Security Vulnerability

Something happened to a couple of my WordPress blogs. I didn’t know about it because I do not access my blogs daily, and only found out about it when I received an error message from EntreCard that the EntreCard widget was not detected on these two blogs.

To my horror, I could not even open my blog. I don’t know what happened and shot an email to my webhost, who once again, kindly helped me to solve the problem. The blogs are not accessible once again but my webhost told me that I should upgrade my WordPress to the latest version because of security vulnerabilities.

Urghhh that’s what I hate to do. It’s OK with one or two blogs but with more than ten, it could be a tad psychotic. Anyway, I spent the past couple of days doing it as I went along updating my blogs and they are almost done now. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that there would not be another upgrade so soon! Scared, really scared!

Microsoft & Yahoo In Talks Again?

Apparently, Microsoft is again in talks with Yahoo! once again. This ding-dong on again, off again is pretty interesting and as a web user I am waiting to see what they could come up with if this collaboration comes into fruition. Looks like with Google threatening Microsoft, they have to do something and Yahoo! is currently the best bet.

While Yahoo! rejected Microsoft bid to purchase the company in its entirety last February and Microsoft themselves are also no longer interested to purchase it, at least not at the old price they offered in view of the drastic share price drop, both Yahoo! and Microsoft do not discount the possibility that they may enter into some sort of arrangements in the near future, particularly in web search.

Personally, I hope that this collaboration, if it happens will break the monopoly that Google seems to have on the web these days. Well, as you know, the internet is so fickle, anything could happen.

Real Freebies & Samples

Running two freebies blogs, I surf the internet extensively for the latest freebies, deals, sweepstakes, contests, samples and other goodies on a daily basis. While I know of many freebie websites, most are so cluttered that even searching for freebies that I like is a headache.

There’s one website called Thunderfap that I come across all the time. I am happy to say that they are one of the biggest websites with free-stuff and deals where requesting for them are easy. They all do not come with strings attached and do not require us to disclose our credit card information. This is very important, isn’t it?

The webmasters of Thunderfap.com check their listings thoroughly for accuracy so that requesting for freebies is a hassle-free experience for us.

PC Fair (III) 2008 Ipoh

I just found out this morning that PC Fair (III) in Ipoh will not be held at its usual venue at Stadium Indera Mulia, to my dismay. For as long as I could remember, PC Fair has always been held at this Stadium or Ipoh Parade. This time, they will be holding it at Dewan SJK(C) Yuk Choy, Ipoh, Perak – 195, Jalan Sultan Iskandar, 30000 Ipoh.

Gosh, although Ipoh is a small city, this new venue is still quite a distance from home. I prefer the Stadium because it is more convenient. There were times in the past when I bought something during PC Fair and had to return to the stall due to some issues so with the PC Fair so close, I could make numerous trips there over the weekend. Oh yes, PC Fair (III) in Ipoh will be held from 5th to 7th December, 2008 from 11am to 9pm.

While at first I thought that I would be skipping this PC Fair because I have nothing to buy in particular, I just recalled that I am shopping for a USB modem for my Celcom 3G. Yes, they do sell them at PC Fairs. So it looks like I can’t skip this PC Fair!
