Gmail Offers Voice Call To Phone Now

This week, Gmail has started to roll out voice call service which allows users to call any phone number in the United States and Canada. It is not said if Gmail users from any international country could make use of this service, or if it is only available to users in USA and Canada.

Soon, Gmail will be offering international calls at low rates. How this is different from other web to phone services, I have no idea. None at all. What’s the hoo-haa over this, I also don’t get it. Also, although Gmail said that we will be getting this service of calling phones in the United States and Canada for free at least until the end of 2010, when I opened up the Phone dialer, I see that I only have 10 cents in my account.

I have downloaded the file required but have yet to install it so I can’t try out the service yet but I don’t know if I will even try it out since it is really nothing special to me. Is it a novelty to you?

Cloud Translation

One thing about the internet is that it has opened up the world to us and we can communicate with people around the world easily without restrictions, though language may be a barrier for some of us. Working in my father’s company, I sometimes have to communicate with people who do not write in English and I would have to get their email translated. I usually get help from my Facebook friends where I would just copy the text little by little to my profile status. I found out that while I do get almost instant response, translation is not always accurate!

I just discovered this cloud translation services by Translia and am very impressed by the professional translation services that they are offering. They are fast, efficient and most importantly, they are able to work in 128 global languages! If you are worried about being charged exorbitantly, don’t be. You can always request for a quotation first and only place your order if you are comfortable with the fees charged. It wouldn’t be too expensive since there is no minimum fee imposed. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about needing just a few lines translated since there is no minimum size too.

I like the fact that translators at Translia work round the clock which means that no matter how fast you require your translation, it will be met. The internet never sleeps, after all.

NZ Postman Loses Job Over Two Facebook Pages

Lyndon Hohaia, who is a postman in Auckland, New Zealand, lost his job recently after two pages that he set up on Facebook, PostieLad and PostieLand, where he posted his personal views on his job and colleagues, were discovered by New Zealand Post. He said that these pages were meant to be for laughs for his family and friends.

However, people who use Facebook and the internet in general, know that whatever that is posted online, whether it is set to private or public accessibility, know that that will soon enough be discovered by the public. Yes, even private information could be spider-ed and searched.

So I really think that this guy and anyone who think that they could keep their thoughts to themselves and to a close knit group of people are wrong. The internet is actually a very public place. It could be benefit its users or it could work against us, especially if we misuse or abuse it.

Low Cost Domain Registration & Web Hosting

My friend, Warren, was very angry the other day when he received a notification from his domain name and web hosting company that they would be charging a small fee for payment made by PayPal to cover the service charge that PayPal imposes on them.

Warren told me that he’s moving his domain names and webhosting else where and asked me to recommend him my own host. My hosting is very expensive and if he is pissed off with the small fee, he wouldn’t like to know of my web hosting package.

Yesterday, I came across this domain registration and Web Hosting company, Domain Express, which I think would suit him better. It offers cheap domain registration and webhosting, which is suitable for both small personal websites and business hosting.

Every domain name with Domain Express, either purchased or transferred, comes with multiple mail forwarding, web forwarding and advanced DNS management which allows for almost instant name server changes. No more waiting 24 hours or more!

Registering a domain name through Domain Express is hassle-free. They offer domain names in every extension including the new dot co (for company). If you have a name in mind, you should register it quickly before it’s taken. You know how swiftly they go!

Lady Gaga Seizes Twitter Crown

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, who is more popularly known by her stage name, Lady Gaga, has officially ousted Britney Spears as the most popular Twitter user based on the number of followers he or she has. Britney Spears held on to the throne for about three months after beating Ashton Kutcher.

Lady Gaga’s number of followers on Twitter surpassed Britney Spear’s 5,667,000 (and counting) by adding 600,000 new followers in the past month alone. Well, I don’t see why Lady Gaga is this popular and there is really no special reason why she should be followed. Or even Britney Spears and Ashton Kutcher. Talk about herd mentality.

So, year, Lady Gaga is undeniably the current most popular social media user and is also currently listed as the most influential person by Times but how long will she be able to hold on to her position? According to Famecount, Justin Bieber the Canadian teenager, is fast coming from behind with 800,000 new Twitter followers every month.

Sensible Weight Loss Ideas

I am sure many people, at one point of their lives, will be faced with a weight problem. Although most of us do not have weight issues on the strict sense of the word, I believe we can’t deny that we do have bulging fat on our body that we desperately try to get rid of, or try to hide it and pretend not to notice it.

I have to say that I do go through periods when I would be very determined to lose some weight. I am not on the fat side so I don’t undergo dramatic weight loss. It’s not healthy anyway.

Today, I came across this weight loss blog that shares with us articles on how to lose weight quickly, but not that quickly, yet sensibly. According to one article, we have to keep active, including doing every day chores. It doesn’t mean that we have to set aside time every day to exercise though that would be ideal but it would still be good enough if we do some work around the house at a moderate pace for an hour or so daily. There really is no excuse to say that one hasn’t time to “exercise” at all.

I like the fact that this blog isn’t pushing a weight loss product but reminds us that in order to lose weight healthily, we have to not only change our diet, but also exercise habits and lifestyle.

Leading Mobile OS in the Global Market

A lot of my friends who are more tech savvy people have moved from Nokia’s Symbian phones to Android phones. They have urged me to get on the bandwagon and I have to admit that after trying out my friend’s new Samsung Galaxy S, I am extremely tempted to upgrade from my 2.5 years old Nokia E61i. However, my mobile phone still serves me well currently and I see no justification and splashing such a huge sum of money on yet another smart phone when I am already carrying two. Besides Nokia E61i, I am also using the iPhone.

I read reports in the media today that Android has even surpassed iOS in terms of market share, now third in the global market following Nokia’s Symbian and Research In Motion RIM’s BlackBerry. Apple’s iOS has slipped to fourth place.

In the American domestic market, Android is the leader. I am not surprised since everyone loves Google but I am surprised at the speed it has shot up to the top. Android is quite new compared to the other more established mobile OS. How long will it be able to hold on to the lead?
