Stocking Up First Aid Kit Conveniently

My friend told me that with two young boys at home, she always have her first aid kit at home ready for any emergencies. One of her boys is already schooling and every day after school, without fail, he would be spotting nicks here and there, especially on his knees. As you can see, having a well-stocked first aid kit helps.

She also doesn’t have to run to the pharmacy because she gets her medical Supplies easily online. It’s very convenient, she says as she shops online from home and could easily check out specific supplies that are running low.

My friend told me that it is good to have on hand Burn care dressings just in case there is a burn accident at home. You know how curious kids are and they love playing with things that are dangerous around the house. I too have home medical supplies on standby, I don’t have any burncare products on hand. It’s time to change that.

‘Subscribe to’ Facebook Page or Profile

Facebook has introduced a new feature to selected users in the hope of rolling it out after finished testing it. This is a feature that allows people to subscribe to a particular profile or page on Facebook to be alerted of new status updates, edits to the profile or sharing of photos, videos, links, notes, etc.

I think this is good, though some people may not think so because it amounts to “stalking” but with so many “friends”, I really need some of them to stand out so as not to miss any of their updates. I think, though, that it would be better if we have an option to allow people to subscribe to us or not. And this means that we can view who are the people subscribing to our Facebook profile and/or page.

And if it’s not too much trouble, it would be best if Facebook allows us to opt in and out of being subscribed to so that whoever isn’t comfortable to have every activity being followed by “friends” could stay away from it.

Contemporary Furniture For Geeks

If carrying three smart phones, including an iPhone and working on two desktop computers and a laptop, doesn’t turn me into a “geek”, I don’t know what will.

Recently, I have been looking at home improvement ideas, and even though i do not have my own home yet, i already have a rough idea of what I would like to do. I am someone who is doesn’t like fuss or hassle and prefer contemporary furniture over antique=style furniture anytime. However, currently; I am looking at furniture for geeks that would suit my lifestyle.

As I said, I like sleek designs and am more particular when it comes to bedroom furniture, mostly because I spend most of my time in the bedroom. Also, I would need a matching set of drawers with my bedroom furniture to store my cables, switches and other computer accessories.

Having said this, since I am someone who can’t keep my eyes away from the computer screen for long minutes, I would love to have furniture that could accommodate my laptop wherever I am at home. I read about a family that needs to have a drama playing on TV while they eat. As for me, I would need dining room furniture that would allow me to sit my laptop and other gadgets while keeping them out of the way of diners who may be clumsy with their food and drinks.

Oh, all these are just wishful thinking. I think it would be better for me to work hard for my own home first!

New Google Privacy Policy w.e.f. 3rd October, 2010

Google has informed all their users that there is a new Google Privacy Policy with effect from 3rd October, 2010. As you know, Google has a multitude of web properties, some which a lot of us haven’t even heard of. One of the changes that Google is making is to streamline these policies that apply to individual website or service. Google informed that these 12 web properties that they own will no longer have their individual website policies but will be governed by the main Google Privacy Policy.

After going through the new policy, I have to admit that I cannot tell which new policy points have been included. To be able to tell, I would have to go through the entire current policy and who would have the time to do that?

However, the only thing that i could tell right now is that yes, Google seemed to really have streamlined the new policy from the current one. At least the new one which will take effect on 3rd October, 2010 seems shorter than the current one that was last modified on 11th March, 2009.

IKEA Brada Laptop Support

When I was on the road for a couple of weeks, i was worried that I would not have a place to settle down comfortably enough to work. I know, I was on vacation and was supposed to stop thinking about work but most of my work is done online and if I could take my work along, why not?

During those two weeks, my friend, who recently bought a laptop support from IKEA called Brada, loaned me his and I found it very useful. I could get online anywhere to do some work on the laptop, even in a moving car. Of course, I wasn’t the one driving. LOL

Now that I am home, I am thinking of buying a Brada too, even though I have no plans to travel yet. I recently bought a memory foam mattress, you see, and can spend long hours in bed since it is very comfortable and keeps me cool and dry even in this warm weather. I think that all the traveling has gotten me lazy and I have picked up the habit of working in bed.

Actually, it was also this same friend who told me to get Mattress Toppers but I decided to invest in a memory foam mattress. Come to think of it, he really knows how to get comfortable!

Setting Up Gmail On Nokia E72 The Dummy Way

Last month, I bought a Nokia E72 hand phone for my father for his birthday. My father is not good with smart phones like he is not good with computers. He uses them, the basic features, but then I have to set up EVERYTHING for him.

My father has a Gmail account so I thought that it would be a breeze setting up an email account for him on the phone. I noticed that by creating a mailbox, we have a few webmail providers to choose from, including Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and Windows Live Mail.

After a few days, my father informed me that the Gmail isn’t working and that he couldn’t retrieve email, and if he could retrieve it, he couldn’t open it. Heck, sometimes it wouldn’t even connect.

So I checked on the internet and found that this is actually a problem with Nokia E72 and that the email set up doesn’t work for most people. What I did was to take a photo with the camera and pretended to send the photo by email.

Since I don’t have a mailbox in the phone as I have deleted the Gmail that didn’t work, I was asked if I wanted to set up one. I selected Yes. I was then given an option to create a new email box. I selected “Other” (email provider) to trick the phone so that it will ask me to input all the values manually.

Once I entered a phony Gmail account, I was taken to the next page where I would have to select my account type, POP/IMAP. I selected IMAP. Following that, I would have to enter a “fake” password. Once these are given, I was required to key in other advanced settings, as follows, taken from Gmail Support page and voila, it works well now!

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server – requires SSL: imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server – requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587

Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com)
Email Address: your full Gmail email address
Password: your Gmail password

Creative Premium Templates For Websites & Photo Galleries

As you know, I have registered a .MY domain about a week ago. Although I have installed WordPress on it, I still have no idea what to do with it. Blog, I already have more than enough. I am thinking of setting up a website but what will it be?

Whatever the site ends up to be, I have started searching for website templates. I hope that looking at the many different templates online would give me an idea of what I eventually do with my domain. It has to be something unique.

Just now, I was informed that Dream Template is running an offer where one-year membership is now only US$59.95, which is a lot of savings from its normal price of US$149. As a webmaster and blogger who tries to set up each site with its own unique identity, I can say that this membership is certainly cheap considering that one quality premium template is usually sold between US$50 to US$70 and that’s considered low end already.

In addition to free downloads of 6000+ templates, members are also given access to nine other sister websites that offer premium templates, icons, graphics and everything that a webmaster needs, using the same login credentials.

Frankly speaking, anyone who is serious with making their online properties stand out should consider registering with Dream Template. There is no harm since they offer risk-free 30-day money back guarantee for people who would like to cancel their subscription for whatever reason. It’s their loss, then, since new designs are published every month.
