Convert Audio To and From MP3

My friend, KK, told me that he would like to send a few music tracks to me. I agreed since I am all for free music. However, after one day and still not receiving anything from him, I asked him what happened. Apparently, the files were too large and he couldn’t attach them in email. He didn’t know how to use file sharing websites either!

I found out that the files were large because he had forgotten to convert the files into MP3, which are smaller in size, yet quality is maintained. I looked for a popular MP3 converting software online and found one by NCH, which I remember using some months back before I bought a new computer. I still haven’t finished installing my programmes after 3 weeks!

I suggested NCH MP3 converter to KK and asked him to convert his music before emailing to me since he doesn’t want to use a file sharing site. I am thinking of getting a copy of NCH software myself. It doesn’t only convert music, song and audio files to MP3 and vice versa, I also like that it extracts audio from video files and save to MP3. This is very useful as it allows me to edit music videos by incorporating dialog from popular TV dramas.

Internet Contributed £100 billion to 2009 UK Economy

A Google-commissioned study found that 60% of the total of this £100 billion was spent on internet shopping, spending on internet devices and internet connections. Also, the study shows that the United Kingdom is ranked first in eCommerce, with every GBP1 spent online to import goods while GBP2.80 is exported. Broadband penetration rate in the United Kingdom is about 73%.

The £100 billion contribution to the UK economy last year represents 7.2% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), higher than construction, transport and utilities industries. It is estimated that this contribution is expected to rise by about 10% a year and is expected to reach 10% of GDP by year 2015.

Need A Friend To Provide IT Support

I just spent a small fortune on a new printer and a new computer. I was very reluctant to replace my desktop computer because it was not even five years old yet and although some people told me that five years is a long time for a computer, I have used computers for seven years and more, so 4+ to me was still fine to me.

Unfortunately, after months of carting my computer to various computer shops to troubleshoot where I looked for both IT Support and hardware technical support as I tried to pinpoint the problem, and in the end failed, just gave up and decided to get a replacement.

I know, a friend kept saying that I am penny wise, pound foolish, and that I should just upgrade long ago. My cousin, who works as in IT Support London had also advised me to just get a new system but then I am someone who would use something until it is condemned before getting a new one.

Sometimes, I wish that I have a friend who could provide IT Support or at least understand how some things work better than myself so that I don’t have to cart my computer to the shop every time I am faced with a technical problem. It’s so tiring after months of running around with the half dead computer. Now that I have a new desktop computer, I can work so much faster. I am overall more productive!

Toshiba Libretto W100 Notebook

I am in the market for a light and small laptop/netbook yet I am not willing to compromise on speed. I spotted this new Toshiba Libretto W100 and I am very interested in it, though I haven’t seen it selling in shops in my hometown yet.

What I like is its dual 7in multi-touch screens that could be viewed in split or extended mode. Also, instead of hard disk drive, it’s using Solid State Drive (SSD) which makes the laptop very light. This Libretto starts from 819g only; not the lightest in the market but light enough.

I do not understand why people are hoo-haaing that Apple’s new laptop is using SSD and that they are claiming that Apple will be the killer of hard disk drives. Other companies like Fujitsu and Sony are definitely ahead of Apple yet Apple fanboys refuse to accept the fact. Don’t get me wrong, I also use Apple products.

Anyway, my friend told me that while SSD is light, lower quality SSD are actually slower in speed than a good hard disk and has a limited lifespan. On the other hand, it’s tougher in the sense that it cannot break.

Gold Wedding Gift

A good friend is holding a wedding dinner on 1st January, 2011, because of the date that shows 4 1s. She actually registered her marriage more than a year ago and because of the time gap between her marriage and her wedding dinner, she says that it will give us time to save enough money to buy her “good” wedding gifts.

If she thinks that we could afford to buy gold bars for her, even with the many months of saving up, then sadly she has mistaken. LOL I think the most I could afford is a gold coin or maybe two. She’s lucky that I am not getting her a household electronic product. That would save me lots of money but then this is what good friends are for, right?

Anyway, I still haven’t decided on what to get yet. Perhaps some of us will pool our resources and really buy her a gold bar? Who knows? Hehehe

MySpace Goes Back To Music

MySpace, in a bid to stop more of its users to move to Facebook, has launched a last ditch effort to revamp the social network site with a new design and a renewed focus on music. Will these efforts help MySapce retain its social music network crown?

Although I have a MySpace account and accounts with many other social networking sites, I have to say that MySpace and Facebook are very different. MySpace was launched way back before Facebook and even so, I hardly spent time on the site. This could be said for other social sites too.

But Facebook, it’s another kettle of fish. At first, I did have my reservations as well but once I found my way around, I find that I actually spent the whole day on the site, way more time than time spent all these while for all other social networking sites combined.

The attraction of Facebook is of course its game applications. MySpace’s attraction is in its music, whether new and undiscovered bands or established ones. So it’s really hard to think why MySpace users have strayed to Facebook since both have different focuses.

The only explanation I could think of is that we only have 24 hours a day. Once these people discovered social games on Facebook and addicted to them, they simply don’t have time for MySpace anymore, or any other social sites, for that matter.

Printer That Prints Scents

I have been reading up a lot on technology news because of a portal that I am taking care of. And I am quite fascinated with the stuffs that are invented, even though some may never see the light of day. And even if these products are manufactured and released into the market, I doubt that I could ever afford them.

But it’s nice to see how some people’s minds work. Like this printer that could print scents that has been invented by the Japanese. it must be something in their education system that make Japanese an innovative lot, don’t you think so?

The funny thing is that although I read through the news article a couple of times, I still do not get how it is done. I only know that is product is a modification of a Canon inkjet printer, except that this printer that prints scents does not use ink. It shoots jets of scented fluid onto a sheet of paper. I wonder if these scents could mix and what kinds of scents are available. LOL
