Thousands of Hotmail Accounts Wiped Out

When I read this news early this morning, my heart dropped to my stomach. You know the kind of feeling! Thousands of people have reported that their Hotmail accounts have been wiped out some time between 31st Dec 2010 to 1st Jan, 2011, and all that’s left in the email account is the “greeting” email that’s standard to new email accounts.

While Hotmail does deactivate some accounts that have no activity within a certain period of time, these users are using Hotmail as their primary email, like myself, and it is really appalling that email can get lost just like that, especially from a “trusted” major provider like Microsoft.

Over the years, I have lost two email accounts previously, when it was no longer economically viable for the providers to offer free email. I have lost a lot of email, contacts, photos and other important stuff that come through email. But I never thought that this could happen with a Microsoft property.

I remember facing some trouble logging in to Hotmail some times but to have entire content in an email account missing, accounts that have stayed active some for as long as ten years, is just too much to stomach. Imagine, there would be thousands and thousands of email which can never be recreated.

What is worse than losing email is that Microsoft has yet to issue an official statement on this and has not given any time line when this would be resolved. Also, all who are affected would like to know one thing: Is it possible to retrieve all the lost data in their Hotmail accounts?

Accutane Lawsuit & Compensation

I recently read about people who, after being prescribed with Accutane, suffered from side effects that included inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), some were unlucky enough to even been diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease which is very, very painful.

Attorneys at O’Hanlon, McCollum & Demerath are helping patients who have been affected by Accutane to seek compensation for their injuries. If you know of anyone affected by Accutane, you should let him or her know about Accutane Lawsuit and to speak to these experienced attorneys to see what recourse a patient has.

It’s quite scary to know that something treatment for something “simple” like acne could cause one to suffer so much more!

Apple Sued For Providing Advertisers With User Information

Apple has been served with a class action lawsuit for transmitting sensitive, private user information to advertisers of content that are served on Apple devices like the iPhone and iPad.

As an internet user, I already assume that my user information and surfing habits are already made known to advertisers. Otherwise, how could ads be displayed so well to me, so relevant?

This lawsuit also alleges that besides Apple handing over user information to application developers, these developers, after gaining such information, are selling additional information to advertising networks. Such information include the location, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and political views of users.

Creepy, isn’t it??? But then when developers offer free apps, I am sure they do have means to generate revenue somehow!

3D Games Can Harm Children’s Eyes

Nintendo has issued a warning that 3D games can ruin the eyes of children under 6 years old. Heck, even though I am an adult, and I don’t need correction glasses, my eyes feel funny too after playing 3D games for long. Not just games, but also movies.

I am never comfortable with 3D and would get a bad headache and even vomit but even for people who do not suffer from this same ailment as I do, too much for 3D is not good too. It’s not so much 3D, I think, but also the vibrant colours and the glare that contribute to eye strain.

Nintendo recommends that users take breaks from 3D after every 30 minutes. My, that just spoils one’s 3D movie watching experience!

Back To School, Beauty School

My cousin told me that she has just received a retrenchment letter. Just when we thought that the economy has improved, something like this happens to give a negative light to the new year.

Luckily, my cousin has worked for a number of years with the company so her compensation is quite good. According to her, it’s enough for her to go back to school for a few years and not worry about not earning any income. That’s good to know and there’s one less thing to worry about.

I told her about Regency Beauty Institute since she is very interested in cosmetology and anything that has to do with beauty. Perhaps it’s a good idea to enroll in one of the beauty courses offered.

Qualifications from Regency Beauty Institute are highly recognized by beauty professionals and employers and that’s an added advantage.

Most Visited Site On Christmas Day in Britain

It’s Facebook and it’s sad! LOL

While some people may claim that not everyone celebrates Christmas Day, most people in Britain do so what are they doing on Facebook on Christmas Day when they should be spending some quality time with family and friends offline?

Facebook should also release data on the peak hours that the Brits logged on to their Facebook accounts on Christmas Day. It would be really helpful to see if maybe it’s nap time or just before bedtime. But it does show that holiday or not, family or not, people still need to spend time online to catch up with each other.

Perhaps, the virtual crops needed harvesting?

Skype Recovers From Long Worldwide Outage

I was one of those who were affected when Skype went down worldwide for a few hours yesterday. I couldn’t log in to my account, which I use on my mobile phone, and didn’t know what was wrong until I did a search online and found Skype’s acknowledgment on Twitter.

This is the second major outage that Skype has suffered from. The earlier one was in 2007. While it is not a big deal for technology to have an off-day, this time, it’s the holiday season and I believe many people were trying to take advantage of free or cheap calls that Skype offers to call home to their families in far away lands.

Skype has clarified that this outage has nothing to do with WikiLeaks supporters who have actively brought down many major websites that no longer supports the whistle-blowing website. Anyway, all is well and good again. Happy holidays!
