Google Offers

Google is venturing into local deals, much like what Groupon is doing, where groups of people purchase coupons for a limited-time deal. For example, a hair cut at a local salon is being offered at 70% off normal rates or something like that.

Google Offers is actually late in the game. Even in Malaysia, we already have quite a few companies offering this same deals concept, some would offer a deal a day without the condition of bulk purchase so buyers do not have to wait if a certain number of coupons are sold before enjoying the discounts, which I personally like.

But even though Google is late, with their capital, they could surely make this big. That’s an advantage they have. And with their money, they surely could polish the business model. Let’s see how this turns out for them.

Lil Wayne Deletes His Twitter Account

For the second time, Lil Wayne’s Twitter account has been hacked and the hacker, using that account, sent out tweets to Lil Wayne’s friends, including hip hop stars 50 Cent, The Game and Soulja Boy. Soulja Boy even received an insulting message from the hacker on the poor sales figures of his latest album, DeAndre Way.

In the first hacking incident, Lil Wayne reacted with an angry outburst. I guess he has had enough of being hacked now that it has happened for the second time. Another angry outburst wouldn’t help. Just delete the account. That’s the best solution. Lil Wayne isn’t the first and only celebrity to leave Twitter after all.

1Malaysia Gathering With Malaysian Prime Minster

The 1Malaysia social gathering with the Prime Minster of Malaysia, which was supposed to be held on 5th November of last year, has been postponed to 20th February. This gathering was postponed because the Prime Minster was down with chicken pox during that time.

This event will be held at 4pm (20th Feb) at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Those who were invited the first time around for the 5th Nov, 2010 gathering will be invited automatically. From what I know, interested people can still apply for a place at the social meeting with the Prime Minster of Malaysia.

Keeping Our Driving Record Clean

My cousin’s son, who recently obtained his driver’s license, has already received his first driving ticket. He thought that he could put it aside and forget about it until the elders explained to him that he has to keep his driving record clean.

Luckily, he could easily enroll in an online traffic school, sit for the course and take the test, all court-approved and done online. By going through this and passing his test, he could keep his driving record clean, which means that he will not be given demerit points and he doesn’t have to pay high auto insurance premium.

I actually found out about this from the San Diego Traffic School. I thought that my cousin’s son would have to attend a driving school. Fortunately, with the convenience of the internet and user-friendly website, he doesn’t have to take time off work for the course or test.

In California, drivers are allowed to take this course once every 18 months. It helps that San Diego Traffic School fees are very reasonable and one could follow the course at one’s own convenience at home. It’s a good thing that we could take a quiz after every chapter. We will be able to tell how ready we are for the final test.

‘Attack A Teacher Day’ Gets 6 Teenagers Arrested

A girl in the United States who came up with the idea to set a date to “attack a teacher”, created the page on Facebook and invited her friends to it, has been arrested along with five of her friends, all girls. The Facebook page had more than 100 students accepting the invitation but it is not known yet at this point if these students will face any punishment.

Although these girls are now claiming that it was just a joke, no one can really be sure if one of those who came upon this page or invited to it and participated would take it as a joke or really act upon it for real. Who can say this isn’t the catalyst needed for yet another school shooting?

The six girls arrested are only 12 and 13 years old and it is quite disconcerting that such young girls can think of something like that. Back in my time, we were brought up to think that teaching is a noble profession and teachers should be respected, even those that fail us.

Man Faces 5 Years in Prison For Reading Wife’s Email

I read with interest a about a man facing felony charges for reading his wife’s email to find out if she was having an affair and if she was exposing their daughter to her physically abusive former husband.

According to news report, the wife gave him her password to her email account so that should give him authorization to read her email, right? I don’t see how this should put him into trouble with the law. If the wife didn’t want him to access her email anymore, she should change her password, even if they may continue to share a laptop.

This reminds me of the case of Daphne Iking, whose now former husband also told of reading her email and instant messages, which means that if this case happened in the United States, he too could also be facing felony charges already.

I guess in Malaysia, people just don’t see that reading someone else’s messages is wrong.

Commercial Website & Blog

One of my blog readers wrote to me asking if I could recommend him a good webhost. He wants to set up a blog and commercial website for his “dog training” business. I told him that I am hosting with friends at the moment and because of work commitment, they are not accepting anymore new accounts. They hold REAL jobs, you see.

And, since he plans to host a commercial website, I advised him to host with a proper webhosting company. I came across this netfirms.com promotion coupon which would come in handy if he decides to host with netfirms.com.

I told him that he has to act quickly to enjoy the discounts since these promotional coupons are all limited-time offers. Why would he not want to save 33% off a business hosting plan, right?

Anyway, this reader told me that this is his first time hosting a website and it will be his first website. He said he has no idea how to go about it but I believe that once he confirms his subscription, any good web host will walk him through the technical aspects of setting up and maintaining his website.

Now, I have to help him look for a website designer.
