Nokia Lost US$1.5B in 2011

Finnish phone maker Nokia posted US$1.5 billion loss in 2011, compared to a profit of US$2.3 billion in 2010. Nokia seemed to have had a tough year last year. However, the company seems to be in a positive mood despite that, and claimed that their new Windows 7 mobile devices have received good sales, particularly in the United States.

Nokia has certainly been struggling to hold on to its market share, where the company has been a prominent player in the mobile device market for years, until Apple came along with their iPhones and Samsung began to come out with more and more fanciful devices. Somehow, Symbian phones seemed to have lost appeal.

Social Alarm Service

My friend told me that he has received a second warning from his manager this month for being late to work. He said that since his office moved to a new building, it is now quite a distance to drive to work and the road is always jammed as well. I feel that what he should do, obviously, is to wake up earlier so that he would be in the office earlier than usual. However, my friend confesses that he has problems getting out of bed in the morning.

Perhaps what he should do is register with Talkoclock. This is a new social networking company that is unique. I don’t think I have heard of a “social alarm service” before, where users could request to be woken up by other members.

What I like most about Talkoclock is that this is a free service and best of all, it is available throughout the world! The company wants us to spread our positive energy as far away as possible. In addition, it works with all kinds of phones. How great is that? I think it is awesome that new friends are just a phone call away, and yet we are provided with the security we need among strangers, initially.

19% American Adults Own Tablets

I read an article just now saying that almost 19% of Americans now own a tablet computer, that’s like almost one in every five adults. The growth for tablets actually was stuck at 10% for a long time but it nearly doubled over the holiday season. Wow, I think a lot of people bought a tablet last year.

I can’t help but wonder, though, how many people actually use it productively. I bet most of the tablet devices would end up being just another huge game device, or an eBook reader. In fact, the growth of eBook readers increased at the same rate, almost doubling ownership from 10% to 19%.

Carbonite Pro

As I am currently checking out online back up services, I am reading many reviews of such services as it helps save time, without having to commit money on a service and then finding that I do not like it, or the company offers only limited services. I am currently reading about Carbonite Pro. There is a very comprehensive carbonite pro review that I find very useful as it provides me with all the information that I require, before signing up with it.

I have been talking to a friend about problems I faced with my ever increasing collection of photos. I have no idea how my media friends cope with this, but after one year, I have already ran out of space on my desktop computer, laptop and a huge external disk. I thought it was huge, but apparently, it is still inadequate.

My friend told me to look for an online backup service that provides secure, unlimited storage and whatever features that I need. While some online backups are good enough for home use, some would meet the requirements of a business user. I don’t really know what I need. I guess I would have to continue reading reviews on online backups to find out their differences.

Google Revising Privacy Policies

Google announced that they will be revising their privacy policies and data use, combining more than 60 policies into one, so that all Google services, including Gmail, Google+ and YouTube will share a single privacy policy. This new policy will come into effect on 1st March, 2012, and Google has promised to send an email to all users, as well as post it on their homepage Google.com.

I’ve been wondering, though, since most of us use so much of Google’s products and services, if we are not agreeable to their new terms and conditions, what would happen, then? We’d have to be forced to agree so that we could continue using the services!

Top Three Online Backup Services

My friend just told me that his hard disk is showing a red warning and he has to delete some of his files to make way. We photographers are always facing the problem of running out of disk storage. I am heading that way as well, and have bought a large external hard disk to store my files but I am looking for a good online backup as well, to keep the most important photos. That’s called double backup!

I tell you, it is not easy to look for good online backup services. I have tried a few, but end up having to move my files when they close down. I just found a list of top three online backup services, though, and plan to sign up with one of them. I like this list as it gives me comprehensive information on what features are available for each of them. Surely, I can expect a good online backup service to be free, but I do need to know clearly what are the features and value-added services, if any, that I am paying for.

This list on the top three online backup services helps me a lot, especially the in-depth review. Check it out at www.wpdesigner.com/online-backup if you are interested.

Megaupload Is Dead

I read that Megaupload is dead because of US Justice Dept. I tried connecting to my account via Mega Manager just now. I am not able to do that. I don’t remember what files or videos I have on my account, and now, I have no way to find out, unless I track back to all my blog postings to check one by one.

I also read that it has caused a backlash from Anonymous. I wonder if we could our accounts restored and get back our files stored with Megaupload if Anonymous wins.

Megaupload is about file sharing, no doubt. But not all files are pirated files, and some of us use the service to store files. Bah!!!
