Asustek ‘Padfone’ Hybrid

Before I could make a decision on which laptop/tablet hybrid to purchase, Asustek is releasing a three-in-one hybrid that is not only a laptop and a tablet but also a smartphone. Wow… a dream device!

This is expected to hit the market sometime in April, but I am not sure when it will land in Malaysia. I expect it to be a hit, unless it is priced too high and out of most Malaysians’ budget.

This year seems to be the year of the tablets or hybrids, with the iPad 3 coming out next month, and even Fujitsu is joining the bandwagon, with a transformer-like tablet/laptop. As a satisfied Fujitsu laptop user, obviously, I am looking forward to see what they have to offer. Better start saving up right now!

Less Personal Data Shared On Facebook

A recent survey has found that fewer Facebook users are sharing their personal data on the website, compared to a year ago. It has found that more women users are hiding data compared to men too.

Some of the data that are no longer shared include date of birth, friends list, schools and other affiliations. If these information were shared, they were only shared to selected groups of people.

I have long stopped sharing such information because even with set limitations you really can’t trust the internet!

Selling iPad 2 In Preparation For iPad 3

A few of my friends are letting go of their iPad 2, now that march is just around the corner and the new iPad 3 will soon be launched. But what are the changes that consumers are getting on the iPad 3 that are not on iPad 2? We do not know yet…. but I know what I want.

Whilst iPad will never be like Windows, the only OS that would be able to offer auto-refresh on my browser, it is a tablet that’s still handy to have, though it is a tad larger than I prefer. I like something between 7 to 8 inches, though not Android!

Anyway, iPad 3 will be amazing if if comes with a USB port and expandable storage! I don’t need to say that it needs to be cheaper, too, right?

Angry Birds Facebook App

Angry Birds Facebook app will soon be launched, and it will happen in Jakarta, Indonesia, the city with the highest number of Facebook accounts. Judging from shops in Jakarta, the people there seem to be addicted to Angry Birds as well.

The Angry Birds Facebook app will be slightly different than Angry Birds on other platforms. The Facebook app allows for sharing of high scores among friends and gifting. Additionally, players can purchase new, more accurate “power-ups”. I think they MUST. LOL

Just Cloud

Searching for a service to back up my image files, which I no longer use but would still like to have on hand, just in case, a friend told me that I should just go for cloud storage. I have to admit that although I have heard of the term, I have not actually bothered to read more information about just what cloud storage means.

Anyway, a friend recommended justcloud, which I have not even heard about. Apparently, it’s a “new kid on the block” when it comes to online backup storage, and JustCloud is one of the top providers because of its vast features.

Top-10-Online-Backup.com has a very comprehensive in-depth review of JustCloud which I have found to be extremely informative, and comparing the service offered by this company and other similar companies, it looks like JustCloud is far ahead in terms of features, though they have yet to clinch the number one spot at this time of writing but it looks like they will soon be, based on their average user rating of a minimum of four stars.

My main concern is reliability and value for money. So far, I have only read good things about the company. It looks like this is a company of choice.

Hooked On Smartphones

An informal survey in The Star newspaper found that over 60% of the respondents could not live without their smart phones.

Of the 1,336 people who participated in the survey, 86% used their phones to check email messages, tweets or update their Facebook status, with 65% admitting to doing so during meetings, while 59% of the respondents confessed to being on the phone while driving, hopefully it’s whilst being stuck in a traffic jam!

While I too depend on my smart phone a lot, I wouldn’t say that I am addicted to using it. For me, it’s more like a necessity, where I use it to check my messages and to get updated on news when I am not sitting in front of the computer.

Facebook IPO

Faceboook is heading for IPO, which is expected to raise US$12 billion for the company. One Malaysian company will be looking forward to the good news. It is MOL Global, which Malaysian tycoon, Vincent Tan, is the major shareholder. The company, which holds about 10% of Facebook, is expected to rake in US$420 million from the Initial Public Offering.

That is certainly a huge amount of money, especially in good ol’ Malaysia, and how will that benefit ordinary Malaysians? I guess that with fresh funds thanks to Facebook IPO, MOL can go on a shopping spree and buy up some dot coms or collaborate with companies that offer social networking services.
