Silenced With ISA
September 13, 2008 – 2:18 amIt has been shocking to Malaysians that three people have been arrested under the ISA, a British law that should have been abolished a long time ago. These three detainees are prominent blogger and editor of Malaysia Today, Raja Petra (RPK), Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng and lawmaker from the coalition front, Teresa Kok.
To read about the Internal Security Act and what it actually is or what purpose it serves, go check up on Google. This is not the first time that ISA has been applied to individual Malaysians to “silence” them. Somehow, living in modern day Malaysia in 2008, it feels as if we are watching a remake of a bad movie with the same old script but with new actors.
Nobody deserves to be detained under the ISA where the detainee will have no contact whatsoever with lawyers, family members or friends for up to sixty days. Do you think this threat is not enough to fear someone into silence? As a blogger with multiple blogs, I am very well aware from my stats that the Government employs people to surf the web, read blogs and websites of alternative media looking for targets.
